View Full Version : Waikato: Coro Loop sunday 27th 10:30 autobahn - medium pace

N4CR
21st November 2005, 22:01
Ok I'm thinking its going to be a good day to do the loop should the weather stay good.

27th (Sunday) Meeting at 10:30 at the Autobahn, leaving 11:00 or as early as you guys can meet. Don't be fashionably late in true KBR style or we might just ditch ya.

Faster guys up front to lead the way and the slower or newer guys at the back. I can be a rear marker with a fluro (I can also provide one if someone else wants to do it). I won't be breaking the speed limit on the straights but in the twisties it's all on.

I'm trying to set this ride up to go slowly through the populated areas (without revving the shit outta your engines) around the loop, so we don't get any undue police attention to what should be a nice ride, and also to not make it a target point in the future.

For people who haven't done the loop, overtaking cages etc in some sections can be a pain but don't take chances. If someone is right up your arse (with a bike) move over on the straight and let them pass.

I don't know how to set up the 'who's coming' thing yet but i'll go have a read to find out.

Please post your interest and any suggestions.

-Tristan

'That stretch'. Sure man go for it. I'm just really organising the ride on the forums, you guys can do what you want but keep it considerate for the local residents.. thats all!

where exactly is the autobahn??

Go past papakura offramp and it is that large BP service station a km or so down the road with solar panels on the roof and whole lot of cafes. Large truck stop really, situated on a downhill section towards the bombay hills.

how long does the loop take?

Zapf
22nd November 2005, 16:35
usually less than 2 hours to Kopu.. an hour and a bit to coromandle... stop an hour for lunch and then perhaps 2 hours to Kopu or Waihi again... and then 3 hours back.

So expect it to be an entire day... unless tristank want to start earlier... 10 is a late start as it is... and 11 is a very late start for a summers day :)

Usually somewhere faster than slow, but slower than fast.

I *may* be up for this one. Gotta teach my bro how to ride on Saturday, but it's only a GN250 so not sure if he'd keep up with everyone.

Whats yr idea of a medium pace?

Most KB rides tend to be open speed (go as fast as you want to go) rides, no matter what speed is posted on the forum.

N4CR
23rd November 2005, 22:00
Yeah JSG is right. I'm just trying to keep the speed and noise down around the residential area's along the coast and what have you (pretty much where there are houses by the road). Just show some respect to the people and then you won't see mr plod with a laser next time.

So yeah... newbs and everyone else all invited.

P.S. Weasel is right - don't look at the sea when you are cornering at a rapid rate of knots

Well if some of you Auckland guys who don't know where to go (red beach!) want to meet somewhere before hand, let me know what would suit you best. A fuel station somewhere close to the motorway in east auckland or something? Where are you? - Red beach in hibiscus (I don't know where that is)

Red Beach is next to Orewa. But I have had a chance to look at the map now. I think I just go down the Norhern motorway (highway one) and I will come to the Autobahn on the left eventually. Someone please put me right if this is wrong.

yep... go down the northern motorway.... past the city... were it becomes southern motorway... still SH1... and eventually... you'll see a big sign on a fly over bridge with all the symbols for gas station / food / bathrooms... then keep your eyes peeled... as big BP will be on the left after a few hundred more meters.. thats where we are meeting

and make sure you do all the checks on your bike... will be a long ride :)

Hey,
Can an old dude tag along on this ride? and could I meet up with you at Kopu?
I would be riding up from Rottonrua and could wait by the pub.
Does the ride go to Coro and then over to Matarangi and around through Whitanga, whangamata etc?
Thames is my home town so may call in earlier and see some rellies.
If you leave at 11.00am which sounds a bit late to me, you would be at Kopu about when?
Just a thought that was all specially if weather looks good.

Cheers

wind moves you across the lane at say 1m/second. If you travelling at 1m/second forward then u have moved across by 45 degrees... increase your speed to 3m/second and you'll move across 3 times less relatively speaking

Had an awesome time today, was my first time round the 'loop so was taking it easy, got to ride both bikes, gotta love the power out of the corners on the VTR... I am still coming in at the same speed as I do on the ZXR, but am soooo much faster after a twist of the throttle. :blip:

Great company (particularly Joflo) looking forward to the next run!

:2thumbsup
p.s. Waylander:

The road conditions were pretty good I thought.

Was a cool day! Great company and good to finally put some faces to names. Sorry for not waiting for the Tauranga guys but I had to get home quick.
Funny, coming over the Tauranga Direct rd, just at the top of the gorge, there was a bunch of patched harley riders all overtaking on a blind corner:blink: . I had to move left of the fog line to avoid all the ape hangers. Bit further on there was another bunch, then a wee way back was a bikey Cop! and he waved at me:yes: First time Ive ever waved to a cop.
Thanks guys and gals for a most excellent day, and I was most impressed with Texmo on his wee two fiddy.:2thumbsup

I'm absolutely shagged!

Fantastic day, managed to ride with some guys from work and from here and boy was it a good ride. Great bunch of peeps. :grouphug: Aint it wicked that people from all of the country can get together like this and have a beer!!!

Highlights;

Those bastard twisties get me smiling like a cheshire cat and then ...then.. i'm asked if i wanna swap with the one and only black yoshi. Mate, i can only say that i'm in even more awe of the way you ride now cos that baby is a rocket! 1st, 3rd or 6th shes got more poke than a pokey thing. As i said, where i'd been prone to having a little grab of the front brakes i found i didn't need to. She WANTED to go faster through the twisties,, you've trained her well. I'm gonna be fizzin for days ( no rash decisions on upgrading whilst i'm still in fizz mode!! ) :devil2: :calm:
Finding myself in a trance behind the tassely TL.. focus Duncan...Focus!!
Having the honor of seeing the girl/ladychick(sorry don't know your name) on the Honda 4/600(?) riding like a pro :headbang:

ps... Yoshi, did you siphon my tank, she can't be that much of a guzzler??!!! :msn-wink: Thanks mate for entrusting YOUR baby with a nana

Thanks guys for a wicked day... Boomer

it was loosely organised... but everyone sort of knew what to do... so was all good.

bit of a mission keeping up on a nakked.. that will be fixed soon.

Trev, didn't knew it was you taking photos.... moment I saw a bike I thought something might have happened hence I slowed right up.... oh well.... lost a photo oppounity...

some photos will be up tomorrow.

Texmo ya gave me a suprise with how fast ya were O_o.. nice one man!

Good to see heaps more people turn up than expected, which is becoming a bit of a normal thing on the KBR rides lately.

Great to see ya boomer, and alex etc etc... whole lot o' new faces.

Yeah I guess so. I was trying to figure out why... it is because he actually has been riding for a long time - scooters. He was telling me how much skill it takes to ride them fast compared to riding a bike reasonably quick... big difference. And I would believe him after looking at the design of a scooter - crazy things. :msn-wink:

And the whole 'oh I have a new bike so I can't push it that hard' story that some members use to excuse themselves for months on end. TEXMO HAS BEEN RIDING THAT CBR FOR FOUR WEEKS AND IS GETTING CLOSE TO THE LIMITS.

Yup, even Cibby not been riding the road bike for long but got her skills riding dirt/farm bikes. Same with Dveus.

Nothing beats time in the saddle..... unless you're dumb and a slow learner (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it:whistle: )
