The cops have just advise that the 10km buffer over 50 and 100kms will be removed, you will now get sent a tax collection notice at 51kms and 101kms respectively, trying to ride 1000cc bikes with 180bhp and digital speedometers is going to get real interesting this is the link:

The measuring I am sure is going to be a problem, however, don't under estimate new technologies here, take you average $500 laser rangefinder, it's very accurate and reliable, imagine if they spend tens of thousands on more hi-tech stuff, well they do have a good chance of making the 51 clicks stand up in court

Why 300?
How did they arrive at that figure as an acceptable number of deaths?
Does it somehow make the world ok if only 300 people die on the roads?

Why don't they set limitations on the 300 who are supposedly going to die. For example, measure the IQ of speeding drivers and if it falls under 25 then take them out back and "dispose" of them.

You all know how i combat these problems... unfortunately it only works when I'm on the bike.
If this shite came in, people would spend more time driving with both eyes on the speedo instead of one (as now) and I reckon that must be more dangerous and probably more fatiguing. Oh, hang on, isn't fatigue a major cause of accidents too?
The others here are right. See the story the other day about the petrol tax take going down cos cars are getting more fuel efficient. Gotta make up those losses from somewhere.
Remove the front plate from your car "Oh shit, sorry officer, I forgot all about that. See I bumped into the back of my girlfriend's car the other day and bent the plate on the towbar, I took it off to straighten it and forgot to put it back on. OMG, I'm so sorry." It works - trust me.
Turn the rego sticker around (make sure it's quickly rectifyable if the cops do pull you over.
Suddenly your chance of being identified by cameras just reduced by 50%.
On the bike - just buy something over 400cc and take the plate off.
If the govt wants to be stupid about it, then they've got to expect that the public can be just as stupid back to them.

\
I don't look anywhere else. I can only see the road with the top of my eyes whilst I'm staring at the speedo needle hovering around 55. It's worse on the motorway as the wind can push from behind you and send you past the limit since the 250 is so light so I'm only concentrating on my speed and not casually glancing at the road looking out for corners
Can't measure fatigue easily so can't fine it so as far as they're concerened people can go ahead and die from fatigue related crashes. Just like road condition related accidents

Well in the Uk the police are supposed to be able to justify any speed cameras with stats that show 5 deaths or near misses in that location in the last two years.
It's been shown on their own research however that once a speed camera has been installed the number of accidents in the vicinity actually goes up. Caused mainly by rear-enders when people slam on their brakes from seeing the cameras, and then people accellerating hard when they leave the area.

What about this: The number of cars and drivers on the road has steadily been increasing every year which means, all things remaining equal, the road toll is naturally going to climb. What was that 40-year low figure? 340-odd deaths when there are probably 10 times as many cars on the road these days - it's a bloody miracle... but they're not satisfied, they want 300. How???
Sorry for lack of statistical evidence or relevant data...

what happened to the tolerance/error of mechanical measuring devices?
lets write to the bastards explaining about mechanical and paralax error, simple sixth form physics that i learnt about in fourth form. that is a stupid idea...my hondas speedo reads fast so that doesnt matter....but still, when i ride i usaully keep it to 110 taking full advantage of the 10k rule. the 'revenue collectors' need to realise that our speed indicating devices are more likely than not to read/show our speed incorrectly, for example, my bike has non-standard tyre profiles on the wheel that the speed readings are taken off so my speedo reads and shows a higher speed than it would in standard tyre profile form. if we have new higher profile tyres or rims with a larger circumference then the speed indicating device is going to show a slower speed than it usaully would, therefore the speed camera would say we are doing 102km/h when the speedo could be reading 98-100km/h and then we could bring parralax error into the equation if we so happen to have an offset speed read-out device [well, only if it is an analouge device] and be able to claim that this idea is absolutely ludicrous:yawn: anyway thats my rant, sorry about the spelling:2thumbsup in short i dont like that idea

I know you were probably drinking when you wrote that but...
I for one have just about had this shite. This is just becoming an exercise in how far people can be pushed before they break.
How many times have you come up behind a vehicle doing (say 85 kph) less than the speed limit (like trucks are supposed to - ha ha) ?? So you want to pass but unless you have a very long passing lane, it's not possible to do so without exceeding (briefly) 100kph... Half the time 'cos the idiot doing 85kph speeds up because it's a nice wide bit of road and immediately slows back down afterwards...
The good people will continue to be good and mostly responsible and the arseholes will be arseholes regardless. Rather that Police the well known recidivist arseholes we all have suffer so that it's 'fair'.
It's bloody stupid and removing all risk in driving is virually impossible. We are surely in a position of diminishing gains.
Naturally the 600 men that die of prostrate cancer every year are not worthy of saving, nor are the hundreds that face amputation from diabetes complications and yet I go out on the street, attend street fairs etc etc to collect money to fund research and help run diabetes wellington...

So what would it be like if it was good? A few minutes rambling!
Wipe all of the current road laws and hand the responsibility for road safety over to the people who need it the most. The road users.
Implement one law which would be policed absolutely. Dangerous inconsiderate driving: Instant Loss of licence.
Dangerous inconsiderate driving with malice: Instant Loss of life.
Police officers word would be final and binding.
Police officer found in breach of duty and/or trust: Instant loss of life.
Issue all police with automatic firearms.
Cut the number of Politicians down to twelve. Two of them would be relief for those who are absent or ill.
Government only responsible for Police, Army, Navy, Air-force and (tangible) establishment of true requirement of Social Welfare.
Privatise everything else.
Review and mimimise all other laws maximise penalties as above.
Boom in funeral services would take care of any temporary unemployment. YES.

To be honest I think the extra 10k's really is no big thing...but how many cars, bikes etc fly pass you doing a hell of alot more than 110. Where do you draw the line of whats acceptable.
In some ways I actually think the reason we have a high road toll is probably the amount of traffic we have using our crappy built roads and people's crappy driving skills.(Maybe more so in Auckland)
