Just saw on the news that half of Wellington's parking wardens have been suspended - for ticketing everyone's cars but their own. The question is, Was that an acceptable perk?
Footnote: Wellington City Council does not provide free parking for wardens while they are 'on the beat'

It's an acceptable perk.
One thing that this country has forgotten is that you look after your own. In the grand scheme of things a few parking wardens cars are not going to make didly squat.

Someone's got blisters on their hands and are frustrated.

I think some parking warden gave the wrong car a ticket - and didn't listen to the "What? How dare you give me a ticket? Don't you know who I am speech?".

THAT PARKING WARDEN IS A TOP BLOKE , MY OTHER FAVOURITE TRICK WAS TO SIT IN MY VAN WITH TINTED WINDOWS , WHEN THEY WALK FROM BEHIND TO CHALK THE TYRES THEY CANT SEE ME , AS THEY BEND OVER TO CHALK ME ID LEAN ON THE HORN

WHEN THEY WALK FROM BEHIND TO CHALK THE TYRES THEY CANT SEE ME , AS THEY BEND OVER TO CHALK ME ID LEAN ON THE HORNLOL!! Never had a problem with Wellington's wardens till I got tickets on two days in a row on MY BIKE while it was parked outside my flat against the fence, on the footpath. Yes, I know parking on the footpath is an infringement, but I had asked a parking warden I saw one day outside the house if he would ticket it, he said "I've never heard of a bike getting a parking ticket". I asked another one: "As long as it is against the fence, no problem".

So, they are not my friends. After they ticketed all those people watching F69 get sunk, I was even more annoyed.

I hope one of them who ticketed my bike was also one of the wardens suspended.

The job they choose to do is anathema with most of the people I know, the very thought that they are above the law and are rewarded for it is very distressing. I hope they get the book thrown at them for their underhand crimes.

absolutely an acceptable perk - like letting cops off camera/speeding tickets.

Personally I don't care if they get free parking. They are there to do a job for the city and have to park somewhere while doing that job right? The only problem I would have is if they were ticketing peaple that still had time on the meter. And that whole thing with the boat sinking was just ridiculas. Hell why not make a drunk test spot and then ticket all the peaple in the que up to it for parking in the street and driving well below the speed limit.

The difference is that one is a safety issue and one is not. I'm the first to admit that parking wardens can be bastards no question about that. But before anyone points the finger about perks I wonder how many here at some time or another has not enjoyed a perk of their employment. Like I said in the grand scheme of things............etc etc.

As a building inspector - sometimes I draw the short straw and have to fill in in the city.
Got 2 f**king tickets last time - if those dicks had half a brain cell between them Id be surprised. Council vehicle full of gear outside a building site! One prick was about to ticket me because I was 2 feet onto a half covered yellow line under a site office! Fucktards!
The guys working in town say they see these pricks lurking in shop doorways, waiting for time to expire on parking cards and meters, so they can ticket them.
Are they all on bonus schemes or something?

Can I change my vote to the They should be hung, drawn, and quartered - off with their heads!! option? I didn't get the full sense of the text and thought it meant whether we should get parking perks.

Those parking dilholes need their nads removed and stomped on. They'll stiff you for anything. I once got a parking ticket on my bike. Not a word of a lie. I wrote a letter telling them where they could stick their parking ticket.

Ever so slightly O/T, but an ex-colleague is now working for Guiness in Ireland and has the obligatory branded-up station wagon....he parked up in the centre of Dublin, cages all around him got clamped, but they left his alone! Now them's perks....bet it wouldn't work with a Lion Red one here.

Yes, the local council out-sources the ticketing gig so parking wardens just ticket regardless of whether there is a clear breach of parking rules.
I have been dealt a few tickets: Parking in residential zone (I had my resident's sticker!), parking on footpath (there were no yellow lines but the road was sooo narrow that I would have been blocking traffic otherwise), and several tickets for parking over the posted time limit (Did he/she stand there for the full 20 minutes??? Bollocks).

Still, now I have learnt the error of my ways, am extremely paranoid and will never take a car into downtown Welly ever again unless it is to go cruising for parking wardens to run down, back over a few times and mount their bloody carcasses on my bonnet as a trophy and a warning to other parking wardens. :calm:
But hey... they're just doing their job:bash:

See my reply to Marty. If that's too difficult I will reiterate my reply to you. One is a safety issue one is not. There is a hell of a difference. But then no doubt you are as pure as the driven snow and are oblivious to any perks that come your way. And this texmo, is the point have you not ever had a perk from any or one of your jobs??

You seem to be unable to tell the difference between staff discounts and perks.

One is legal, the other is not. There is an acceptable difference, in the workplace but not in law. The general defination of a perk is an item, service, etc that an employee has access to but not the general public. In the case of these parking wardens what they did was wrong in law. They discriminated in favour of their collegues against the general public. Or to put it another way, they kept an eye out for their workmates and looked the other way. I am pleased to see that this sort of thing still goes on and gives me some satisfaction that the working class in this country still keep an eye out for their mates. After all looking after their workmates is all that they have done. Nothing else.............nothing.

Now my logic might be a tad too difficult for you to fathom Tex so I'll redefine what a perk is. It's a bit like haviang a wank, we've all done it but no one admits it.

When your balls have dropped Tex 'you' will have a real life.

I gather what you mean about perks and I think your being unfair, 61k's in a 50 my cousin did this and got a ticket along GNR - this is definitly safe no two ways about it, but he still got a ticket for breaking the law should a ploice officer be let off? no they should KNOW BETTER just like the parking wardens whos job it is to give tickets should KNOW BETTER and set an example....

I always "speak sence" you just can't see it. My point was that these guys were looking out for their mates. What they were doing is wrong in law, no question but they were covering for each other. That's the point some of you seem to miss.

When I first started work you could leave your paypacket on the smoko table 'knowing full well that it would be there when you came back. There were no locks on the lockers. No one locked there car in the staff car park etc. It's a bygone era but all these parking wardens have done is to trust[B] each other so that they would not get a parking ticket.

Now when you take into account all the parking space in Auckland and subtract the number of cars that the wardens had........as I said earlier [B]in the grand scheme of things etc. etc etc

All I can add is that those of you who disagree with my views on this .........I'm just glad I don't work with you. I'd be on
ACC with a crink in my neck from looking over my shoulder.
