View Full Version : What you liked best about KB when you joined

Right guys and girls, old members and new. I'd like to hear what it was that you liked best about KB when you joined :wari:
Please try and keep to the topic
For me, I first heard of KB when I rode into the Caltex at Wellsford and there was a big group of bikers, I went over and got talking. Met Antallica and Jess, and C4. These total strangers invited me to come riding with them - even though my bike looked totally rugged at the time - and didn't expect anything of me other than to have a good time.
So what I liked best about KB when I joined was the sense of community with all bikers and no need to judge anyone :grouphug:

I joined during the "Free Bike & Free Sheila" promotion. But apart from that, the huge community of people who truly cared, not the usual type of people you meet on internet forums, where people never meet. People here are honest and anytime you need someone to talk to, you know where to come.
You don't even need words... Knowing how many people came to see me in hospital said it all.

What I liked about KB when I joined is the same as today, meeting new friends and talking shit about bikes or unrelated matters. I know there is an on going issue with some of the recent threads here, but I choose to take from them what I want. And that's why this place is still a great site for me at least, I can log off and on when I want, I can choose to get involved with a topic or just watch from the outside. It provides me with a bit of humour, a bit of info, a bit of head-shaking and so on.
Oh yeah, both Wari and I were members of an American site. He pm'ed me one day saying he had been talking to a friend of his about creating a NZ bike site and would I be keen to join. As it was in it's infancy, and was mostly AKL based (I think I was the first ChCH member) I kind of lost interest but came back after a while. Now I occassionally log into the American site, but I'm here every day! Thanks SpankMe and Wari!

I stumbled across KB through an internet search on motorcycles several years ago, I promptly became a member and was blown away with vBulletin and all it's bells & whistles! Computers has been a bit of a hobby of mine for years so there was an immediate attraction because of the software and of course the whole focus of the site concerns another passion of mine - bikes.
Another aspect of KB I have always appreciated is the meetings & events, putting faces to 'nicknames' and enjoying riding with other enthusiasts, and then sharing our thoughts about the ride afterwards online. :ride:

Even though nobody wanted to buy my Zeal (two years ago today since I joined, by the way), I've really enjoyed meeting people "for real" and have made some great friendships thanks to this site.

I discovered KB though the Trade Me message boards.....
Someone had started a thread about m/bikes....
so off I go to see what its about....
someone mentioned the kiwibiker.co.nz site....
so being nosey I checked it out.. and joined up.
That was just over one year ago, 15th November 2004
What have I learnt:
I have learnt heaps more about bikes as I really knew nothing about them before..
I knew more about cars as I used to work on my own.
So its been a great learning lesson for me.
I have also meet some wonderful people on this site...
Some I have yet to meet due to them living in that other island (south Island) or overseas. Some are way down this island.. but one day I am sure I will meet more of you.
So thank you SpankMe and also WaRi for starting up this site.

ALL THE SELF-OPINIONATED NARROW MINDED HARLEY-HATING SOFT-COCK COP HATING SPEEDING RANTING SLACK JAWED MOUTH-BREATHING OXYGEN THIEVES THAT ARE ON THIS SITE!!
Seriously? Just the common bond, the knowledge and experience of the others, the socialising and the chance to maybe offer advice/help others.

I am only a newbie. I joined up in August after the death of a very special mate and a fellow KBer, who was killed on the Coro Loop. The support that his family and friends received from the KB family was amazing, and that I assure you will never be forgotten. I met some KBers at his funeral for the final ride. It was good to meet more people that loved bikes and enjoyed being together.
Since then I have met even more people and got to know some just through the KB Forum.
I enjoy meeting people and socialising. It's the friends we meet through our lives that makes us who we are.

I have been riding for quite a while (20+ yrs) and drifted in and out of several groups over time, I have really enjoyed the friendly banter and piss take of KB and met a couple of people who seem really good value. I look forward to meeting more of the same. I enjoy meeting and conversing with bikers young and old and from everywhere. This site has helped me to meet more people like me and learn more about what I love (bikes).
Long may it continue, thanks Spankme and Wari.

I was at a new job, in a new city, in a new country  was feeling very sorry for my self when I heard a bike pull up outside the office... Yay! someone I can talk to... he was a memeber of KB and once he heard I ride quickly suggested I join. Thanks Zed!
Met some amazing people here... friends I cherish and learned a lot more about my riding, the safety aspect particularly, been good over all.

yeah, OMGWTFBBQ has a point. I do like a good drivel rant now and again, thanks 6pb, indy, magua, ixion, owb etc.
I liked that since i was new to bikes (4 months or so) and I'm a geek I of course looked up bike sites and found these forums. I like the wealth of knowledge on here, the opportunity for events, the freindlyness and generousity of the people
and most of all, an opportunity to extend my e-penis.

Stumbled into it searching for bike pics and reviews.
The reason I stay here - cos it's easier to get away with certain things on the road if you're in a group................:blip:
Naah - the sense of community is :not: and I've made a ton of friends in such a short time......

I'm a rank noob here and still haven't met any fellow KBrs yet (me bikey not worky righty ... and work and exams ...)
I joined when I started looking for a bike and came across the Online trading section ... I've stuck around because I like the witty banter and conversations that go on here (I just ignore the flame wars).
I also like learning new things and I've found this site fantastic for learning new things re biking (The other day I learnt about the bikes power band)

Instant friends just add motorcycle?
I liked that as soon as I posted 'hey its me', I got invited to a ride and green rep (yummy). It also gave me the confidence to walk up to a motorcyclist almost anywhere and start a conversation. v-cool.

The fact that it is the largest group of bikers I have ever been involved with since getting my wheels in the first place. Love that at any given point there will be a ride happening that I can just show up at. And if there isn't a ride, I can just start one and others will show up.

I've found the humorous banter totally addictive and logon whenever Im home. Although I'm still a noob I'm no longer a KB ride Virgin! Today was my first Coro Loop. Thanks Tristank for organising a wicked ride, and sorry you couldnt make it HDTboy. I hope to do loads more rides and with time make some lasting friendships.
About 20 years ago I tried to join a club and was rejected for only having 400CC's:nono: Now here is a cool bunch of people who dont judge you for what you ride and I kinda like that. I also like the silly smilies:doobey: not to mention the meetings and events:blip:

The insanity. And the nutters. And the thoughtfull and insightful philosophical debate. And the bikes
EDIT: Not a PT. I like the wide variety of people and the way that a bantering thread about beer or sex is balanced by a serious social or technical discussion on the next thread - and the wide variety of expertise on the site.
