Hey all... been really busy with exams, so busy infact i have taken to cleaning the bikes.
but something the other day got me :thud:. my rear shock is leaking on the suzuki!!!!! :bash: and i have now found its (officailly) unservicable.

now its only done 29k Km's and had a female owner (yes.. i have proof!) before me, so how could this be?? has anyone else had this issue??

So it's not just the seal? Maybe you have a chip in the fork that could be making the oil leak out.

Oh what's with the female owner thing?

Didn't have that problem personally, nor I have I heard any other owners discussing it.

Unfortunately, suspension units are fickle things and it takes only a small chip in the shaft, or even not being cleaned properly to bugger the seal.

Sounds like the perfect excuse for a Ohlins to me. Or you'd get a brand new shock for sweet FA off E-bay.

As harsh as this sounds, and given the amount of bleating I expect to generate with this comment, it is not unreasonable that it's shagged. Motorcycle suspension needs a refresh every 20k or so, so 29k is pretty good from the original.

Fork/shock oil is usually black treacle by 20k kms and any nitrogen in the rear shock escaped a while ago too. The reason most people don't percieve it to be shagged is because it decays at an almost imperceptible rate over the time of your ownership so you don't notice it's shagged - until you fix or replace it and wonder where the new bike under you came from.

, it is not unreasonable that it's shagged. .

I would agree with Jim, As I have Just spent the las hour stripping the MX bike front forks, These forks were done 3 or 4 meetings ago and the oil is allready starting to change,,( I have the earlier type and they wear out the preload spacer ,,,but even so the oil was going pear shaped.

Get them rebuilt, or spring for a rebuildable one ( as in more easly rebuildable ??) ,,,,Make sense?? Anyway your dealer will have a good line on those things

When its done invest in a Shock Sock ,,,which slows down the wear rate considerably !!

It's a farkin consipercy againest me, how many people have toasted a GSXR thou motor, i brought the fricken thing cause i thought it'd last, doh.

Back to the push bike.

TJEBE BRUIN CAN REBUILD THAT SHOCK , HE CAN EVEN MAKE A NEW SHAFT

JohnBoy

talking with Steve Bridge (F1 Engineering), he said that its rebuild-able by a local Htown firm but... who wants to fix a standard shock?? now all i have to do is to replace the front internals... then watch out sparky B... it will be just like the days of the ZX7RR vS the 900SS!! :shake:

oh.. and Daryl, who needs enemies with friends like you!! cheers for the tip mate:lol:

Any competent toolmaker/machinist should be able to make a new shaft WINJA

Standard shocks can be made to perform reasonably well, but you do have to have a clue what things do. Shafts can be made by any competent machinist BUT the set up costs for ONE shaft would be painfull . There is a company who does shafts in Auckland, wether or not they do one for your model I am not sure.
I was reading an article this morning by Traxxion Dynamics on the AMA superbike shock , and it was a shocker ! a well set up stock shock was almost if not better than this so called works shock ( 64k price tag)
Getting the bike to stop and handle like it should * I think * is a better investment than HP I think you get more returns for your dollar !

Finally a cheap skate method would be to scout around an see if another bike uses better suspension than yours at the moment ...Ebay anyone ??

and Steve @ F1 is a Very nice bloke to deal with ,,,Top man I say !!!

Centerles ground high tensile shafting and S/S is commonly available. The machining required is straight forward and fast, even for one off.

WHAT ABOUT THE DRY NITORGEN , THE OIL , THE SEALS, SPARE SHIMS ETC ETC , TJEBE HAS DONE LOTS OF SHOCKS FOR ME AND HE DOES OK . ALSO IF YOUR A FAT CUNT OR SKINNY LITTLE FAG HE CAN HAVE AN EDUCATED GUESS AT THE SHIMS ETC

If you have a lead on that centre less ground I am all ears, I ll machine my own shafts up !!!

No argument WINJA, setting the shock up correctly requires specialist experience that the majority of Toolmakers/Machinists do not have, they could rebuild in the same time at the same cost but would need direction on what oil, shims to use etc. His knowledge makes him special.

and not just kms either...the baldders they use are 90% cheap rubber...so permiable to air and fluids...so the nitrogen and oil will start to mix over time...not just kms
