They do mufflers? I thought most platers wouldn't do them cos the shit in them stuffed up their baths? Did you have to clean the mufflers and pipes out at all? If so how? I'm going to have a shit load of plating to get done in the new year - d'you know how they charge it? By weight? Surface area? Dartboard?

Look up HPC coatings, we took about 10 metres of exhaust into them and it cost about $700, a mini chopper frame would be about $150 I imagine. Heaps of options too.

thanks for that taco

im confused looking at thier pricelist and stuff they seem to mainly do coatings over chromw rather than actual chroming... but they do a chrome powdercoat which may actually be better...(providing it looks like chrome still)

because i hear chroming can weaken the frame?

Wonder if any of these folks will do my front header and pipes... Bit unsure as the header pipe looks a bit coroded.(spell that right?) May just need to get new ones...

Just looked at their price list (thinking about getting the wheels on the SRV and the suspension springs done)

They charge extra for corroded stuff (Chemical peel don'cha know)

Zorst was explaining to me about how to get rid of the carbon build up in mufflers. You heat it up with an oxy-acetylene torch then blow compressed air through it. The Carbon then turns to Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide and is blown out the pipe. I might try that next year with my CBR400 pipe when I get the chance to use the oxy-acetylene torch at school.

If you go for the chrome powder make sure you get a clear coat over it or the "chrome" will tiurn black.

I know that one. Makes one HELL of a mess (neighbours will kill you) and you gotta be real careful or you can burn a hole right through the metal. Thought there might be a better way

Yep no problem with the mufflers, they had to soak them in something first then flush them out, I think its just done on surface area, they had to be de-chromed first then polish before the new plating process could start so it was a fairly lengthy job. They are quite happy to qoute on the job first so its worth going along to see them.
