The last one was my first but from all accounts that how it usually goes.

*sigh* I think someone already said this, but oh well
You go along the motorway, past the turnoff ramps, and there will be signs pointing to a rest area to the left (ie next to the motorway).
If I remember correctly, the signs start at 1500m, before the last turnoff, then 800m, then, on an overbridge, 400m.
You really can't miss it :2thumbsup

Usually a lot of people meeting up there... then setting off in groups to whereever they're going. When you get there make sure you find the right bunch... Seemed as though I was playing catch-up all bloody day today. Start out late, got to Kopu and everyone had left. Went like the clappers to get to Coro before they all left there. Heard that some were going straight back to Kopu for fear of rain.(big pussies) I knew there was at least three bikes in front of me so carried on to Coroglen. Beaut weather all the way. :wait: Left Coroglen, on my own again, until the VTR's and that 750 litre eater caught up. Left Tairua and WeeStromer & I decided to head back home via Whangamata-Waihi, Bethlehem then Tauranga Direct. In typical Rotovegas style, wet road most of the way from Tauranga. (Always rains in Vegas)
Awesome riding with you lot and no complaints from this happy camper.

So......why did you buy a CBR then? :slap:
Cos they are FAR more reliable and I managed to find a nice, genuine one in time for the track day. There were no decent ZXR's anywhere for sale. CBR's are equally fast - but need more concentration as they have pretty much zero torque. ZXR's I feel have a much more stable front end.

I guess when it comes to twisty bits of road like in the pics, you sometimes come to a section where you have a hundred or so metres visibility through the twisty section and just don't see the point of dogmatically staying to the left of the centre line...in a sense the whole road becomes yours during that enjoyable moment of riding! :Punk: (not advocating dangerous driving here btw)

Personally I would rather have a more twistie road. No sense making it straighter even with clear visability for a good distance. Just more fun for me to actually take the corner. Or is he worried he may have to lean the bike over too far?

Started out with a bin which remained the theme of the day ending, after 5 with a ride home in an ambulance for one enthusiastic young rider. Not too much damage done though I suspect Texmo may be tripping off airport metal detectors for a few years. First time for me and I had a great time and (for those that went home) we didn't get wet, The sun was just right, the road was in good shape and the quiche in coromandel was just great. :slap:

Awesome days ridding alright!
Very eventful with all the misshaps
Big thanks goes out to the local cop in Tairua and the guys( the keen ones still doing the full ride) for helping out with Texmo's bike, he was very unlucky. has anybody heard from him at all?
Trust you all got home alright, I continued on to whangamata and had dinner with my family before heading home later that night.
Got home feeling fucked with a sore ass and oil light showing as i chewed through a whole tank of oil- just the way any good ride should end! :-) excuse the puns.

we managed to contact Texmo last night, he is at Theams and he is ok, last night he was going for more x-rays but at that point, they had found no broken bones, just a bit bruised and batterd. he most likly is gonna get out of hospital today if he hasn't been discharged already. Don't know much else at this point but i'm sure he'll be online in a couple of days.

he lost his cell phone during the crash, along with his wallet by the sounds of it (scavenger hunt!), so it'll just ring away. Tex called me this morning, he's out and about. Hairline fracture to the wrist and a few bruises and whiplash, but still in one piece. He can fill us in tho, but he's fine all things considered.

I'm not sure, but the cop said that texmo had said his phone had been lost further up the hill and I'm guessing that's why he was heading in the opposite direction to everyone else.
The corner in question is the 1st very sharp left hander approx 500m from the single lane bridge leaving Tairua heading for Whitianga. His wallet might be there, but it sounds like the phone won't be.

I still say cutting corners takes all the fun out of having them in the first place. But your life, your riding style. But don't expect sympathy when a cager does take you out after you start getting bored with just cutting corners in places with good visability and start doing it in places with poor visability. Even less so if my ACC levy goes up.

5 bins? I only count 4, who's the 5th?
My off was caused by a front tyre that was perished and had 'gone off'. I'm the first to admit that it was my error not to notice this, and not to consider that the tyre was getting abit old..... lesson learnt.
However, the way I ride was NOT the cause of my crash.
Another of the off's I'm aware of was while riding slowly around a roundabout and could hardly be called a bin let alone caused by riding too fast.

I never called anyone names. Just pisses me off being accused of being irresponsible when I was just have a good ride. If you guys knew the road you wouldn't all be jumping to conclusions and thinking we are all headed for a grizzly death on the road. Yeh that was me... my riding can't be that bad, I'd gone all the way up to Coro, then over to Whitianga (sp?), and literally on a roundabout with nobody else for miles I misjudged the exit and hit the dirt.
If you wanna say my riding's shit then feel free, I'll happily admit I'm a noob and know sweet FA about bikes other than what I've picked up over the last 4/5 months.

Sounds like you guys misjudged or just took your concentration away from the road for a split second...we all do it eventually, some people more often than others. Somtimes depending on your reactions/skill level you can ride through it, but other times it is so out of control that it ends in a bin.

Still following the tread here and I noticed we had a broad cross section of riders and machinery from full blown sports bikes with experienced and competent riders to brand spanking new riders on beginners bikes. I personally didn't find the ride that fast and enjoyed my day with a top bunch of people and am looking forward to riding with you lot again. I think that BlackYoshi did what he could and I overheard him giving one young lad a sharp tongue and some good advice just prior to leaving Kopu and I wasn't that surprised when I saw him departing in an ambulance a few hours later. I am glad he is OK, hope to see him again on a ride sometime. A couple of simple rules (among others) spring to mind when riding in a group that I am sure we already know but its good to review. (1) The guy (or gal) in front of you owns the road (2) Ride your own ride.
Kiwi Biker rides are a good concept and I can already see the finger pointers from way off are making rumblings that include rule breaking ETC. This is not a club that has rules and comittees often made up of a bunch of self promoting wankers. So Lets keep it as it is a social event and some good riding and take the attitude that it is better to "Educate" rather than "Legislate". I saw enough calibre among the riders attending on sunday to suceed it in that way.
