Yes I know it's not bikes, but the people trying to close this down are a bunch of SUV driving twats and must be stopped.
Please click the follwoing link to register your support for Speedway,
cheers

Tell them how much you love speedway and would like to see it run at least 20 meeting a year, have a noise limit of at least 90dba with a 5 to 8 dba range given wind gusts etc.
Perhaps you may mention how much you love going and how if this sort of things continues there will be no Bars,Restaurants,Nightclubs,Concerts ...
Lets sort this out and not let the wowsers win.

As much as I'd like to side with you on this one I just can't.
For years speedway has been ignoring the DBA limits and doing SFA to reduce the noise of the cars or for that matter the PERCEIVED car noise.
Now everyone is beating their chests going "woe is me"
meanwhile the drivers are happy to pass by the DBA meter at start of season and once the dba meter is put away HMM lets just pluck a few disks out of the supertraps to get a few more HP outs the car.
Aucklancd cc did no favours by cutting down a truck load of trees agreed but then what did the organisers do to replace the sound absorbing tree line??
Personally Im in favour of seeing what MCC has on offer and are prepared to allow out by the airport and build a new place. Maybee with a surface that doesnt flip the sidecars and actually has decent drainage.

Gah !!

these people moved into an area they know has a local speedway thats been going for years and years, its political correctness gone fucken wild. Fuck them, its one day a week, one day they know about. I say to them, move somewhere else and stop wrecking this country, its them sort of like fuckwits who move into an apartment on k'rd then complain about the noise from the clubs.

The complainers need to slap themselves upside the head an buy a home theatre and crank it up, either that or fuck off for the night, or better yet GO TO THE SPEEDWAY.

Next thing wankers will be complaining about the noise (which is sometimes loud cause i live close to a park) from a saturday morning rugby game.

While I take Frosty's point that the promotors and car drivers have not been responsible at times, there is a good reason to support Springs Speedway.
Tracks like "Rosebank Rd" a bike and sidecar only venue have people from Te Atatu that complain.
If Springs, our largest track is shut due to noise what chance do the smaller venues have over time.
As far as building a new track goes, that would be wonderful,if it could take solo's and sidecars all the better, but given the cost and RMA that could be a long road.
So give some thought to writing to the council on the link below it could help all tracks in NZ.
Cheers

And the noise level agreed to was ?? Yep 95 DBA
The speedway organisers agreed to reduce the cars noise to that level 10 years ago. Then they and the drivers did SFA about it.
Do the race cars comply ---well clearly no.

I ain't disagreeing its a fucked up idea but shit its doesn'
t take 2 brain cells to figure out if ya :finger: at the local government for 10 years theyre gonna say enoughs enough.
Best comparison--Ya turn up at the testing station and ya bike fails a wof--but ya weasle out and get a wof--then ya go back again for a wof -same problem---eventually the wof testing guys are gonna say go away and fix it--

You've probably got a point there Frosty but do you really think that if they had done their best this would have gone away. The residents stand to make a reasonable dollar if speedway was forced out. The Springs is an institution in Auckland. My Dad used to take us when we were kids and up until 2 yeras ago I was still going. Bit far to travel now. I bet there are a lot of other families out there the same. It's a fucking shame that a small group of folk can stop something that has such a great history. If I was silly enough to buy a house next to a railway line, then got pissed off because the trains are keeping me awake, those same people that are trying to close down the Springs would call me a fucking idiot. Didn't I know it was going to be noisy with trains going by all the time and I would have to agree with them. What makes their situation any different?

I have an SUV and support the Speedway. I think the group you are targeting are the left wing socialist do-gooders who are systematically screwing us all.

By the way my SUV has a tow bar.

The car do comply with the 95DB that speedway NZ sets down as the limit, like nearly all other motorsports in new zealand. what the problem was is that the promoter at the time the new noise level was set (10Years ago) didnt know the first thing about speedway or any motorsport. I beleive that he was a accountant work once worked for thr council. The noise level that was ste then was 85DB measured inside the boundary. Now when you get more than 4 top midgets running full out you get a problem.

Those people who complaned and LOST, who out of them have lived there for 76 years. They are full of shit (wonder why they had to repay their grant that they got to fight it).

I have raced at the spring and crewed there on a number of cars any yes the guys do their best to keep the noise on the cars down.

Hell look at the time, must go, racing starts at 7.:bye:

Frosty's got a very good point. However, people who buy property near a racetrack and then expect the race track to go away need a swift kick in the crotch. Hell, I remember being over at Bay Park years ago and looking at the houses that backed onto the main straight and thinking those places would be heaven to live in. But rather than having rev heads in them there were cry babies who eventually got the track killed.

Bunch of cry baby city-fringers.

You want to get rid of noise?, ban those little wanker boy racer cage drivers who have stereos louder than my home theatre stereo.

The same politics and teary eyed softcock-ism that killed Bay Park will slowly metamorphosise into something the nae sayers will regret.

Bit like the concept of banning the thowing of lollies for the kids at the Xmas parade, cause "it might hurt someone". Before you say something Winj, I was riding and don't care for flogging kids lollies, but where does all this P/C B/S end?:bash:

i reckon every night at speedway they should assign a deap heat gang to go doorknocking, on any negative comment towards the speedway the occupant should be held down and broomsticked and deep heated in ther starfish !!

I race methanol / nitro powered rc boats, recently we have had a 87 db limit set by the council cause of one fuckwit resident... people have been racing these boats there for about 20 years, but its fucked when one person can wreck something for a large group at the springs its prolly a lot more but would be interesting to know what % of the residents support the springs ??

What?
5th December 2005, 06:01
I'm with Matty C all the way on this. Political correctness is ruining this country; before long we will all be kept wrapped in cotton wool and driving Volvos that have been speed-limited to 20Km/hr (and painted beige, so as not to offend anyone with an inappropriate colour)

Lou Girardin
5th December 2005, 07:38
I'm afraid I don't see any political correctness in any of it. What I do see, is a bunch of selfish wannabees who see a chance to make a good slice of extra dosh out of their properties if they can get all noisy activities banned from the Springs.

lou's right.
i used to live in Tuarangi road (just up the hill from the springs) and it's the sound of summer weekends in that area, the same as sitting on your back lawn listening to the concerts there.
it's gentrification of the city fringe suburbs by wankers who buy for the "inner city vibe" then can't live with it.
back to the mall that spawned you, i say.

We have given too much power to the people - Consumer Rights and the Small Claims Courts have given the small minority the ability to sue the arse off anyone, regardless if they are right or wrong. The legacy of Labour putting in policies for the common people will be a welfare system where a small percentage of the population sucked the country dry,and a legal system that allows braindead dead nobodies to take anyone to task over imagined slights - and WIN!

The people I saw at the public meeting I attended who were anti speedway did not look a bit left or green. They look a lot more like National or Act voters who like money, don't understand why poor people don't get some and care solely for themselves. Property prices are there main aim.
Also it has nothing to do with being PC, how does complaining about noise translate to being politically correct.
They are just selfish and well organised sounds more like facists really.

I'm a left wing socialist do-gooder who supports the Speedway. I think the group you are targeting are the ex-radical-left, central-right-neo-libertarian-capitalist-bourgeoisie pseudo-environmentalists who are systematically referred to as NIMBYs...

Frankly I support the speedway. I disagree with the flaunting of noise regulations - inherently it is cheating in this sport - same as in Bike Racing (but a bean can over a muffler to deaden it, then remove it to get the horsepower back). When we used to live in Grey Lynn, we could hear the concerts more than the speedway.... It's all a conspiracy I tell ya!

Yes, the nimby's are just about as dangerous as the lefties. They're just a little more confused. Still, nothing wrong with a bit of capitalism. It pays for all this stuff.

Long live the speedway!

I used to live on Gt South Rd just down from the Pt Chev shops. When the speedway ran, we could hear it. Funnily enough, when ever there was a concert (Bee Gee's, Robbie Williams, etc) we could hear that too - just as loud.

Has anyone heard of the landowners around the springs asking for the concerts to be shut down too? Last I heard, they were all out on their balconies trying to get a view of the action. Hell, didnt Robbie Williams organise for pizza to be delivered to some of the properties surrounding the park in order to take the piss out of all the hangers-on trying to get a free view of him in action?

This is the same residents association complaining about the Swans (which don't make any freaking noise) in Western Springs, and smell from the zoo.

My Great-Grandfather, and my Grandfather used to race solos there be, prior to WWII. It's nearly 80 years old, and it used to be family entertainment. People bought houses nearby so they could walk to the racing.

The residents don't have an argument.
