Now that is a please explain if I ever saw one... interested to see the story behind this ine.
No doubt the cops called the pursuit off just minutes before the fleeing train crashed.Wouldn't it be far more exciting it the patrol car was on it's roof or even on flames!! <--result of watching far too many movies.:woohoo:

It's the 'moving block' technique - it was used successfully here to prevent the train from going onto a flood-weakened bridge!! :killingme

were they trying to stop the train because it had spikes?? I guess that would come under dangerous accessories..... Like the jaguar emblem...

You know it was a woman cop driving too eh!! It was reported that she saw the train coming behind in her rear view mirror so she tried to back out the way and ran towards the train and obviously got t-boned in the attempt to get back clear of the track.
As mentioned bridge is over Taramakau river just south of Kumara.

New public safety initiative: Police cars at all level crossings to stop public deaths at these hazardous spots....
Oh sorry, I thought you said 'police cars *on* all level crossings'......

Police officer crossing the street from the local courthouse to the Police station accross the road. Jaywalking accross the road when there is a pedestrian crossing a mere 5 feet away from where this individual was crossing. Now it would appear that the "rules/law" does not apply? Where does that leave society? Looks like the train driver was being harrassed, so what if the HP caught him speeding, bleeding revenue gatherers.:killingme

far out. Lucky the train stopped before the bridge, it would've got even messier if the car had been squished through there.
Interesting how the skid mark ends a metre or so before the car.

Bloody hell - how'd they manage that..... who do we have in the force these days, do they even give them driver training anymore.
A train is going to cross your path, do you :
a) Slow down and stop before you meet the train tracks
b) accellerate and hope that you meet the road/tracks intersection before the train does
c) Close your eyes and hope for the best
