Seen a few of the Steel Mate alarms installed in cars and they seem to work ok.
Cheep enough too, I like the idea of being able to turn the siren on while riding! Heh heh heh...

Jaycar stuff is generally pretty good quality and very reasonably priced. Be aware tho that the insurance company probably wont recognise it.

Car type alarms don't last too long on bikes. Too much vibration and too exposed to the elements.
Stick to dedicated bike units.

Put one on the ZZR in the weekend, fully featured, works like a dream, nice and sensitive, fully sealed master unit and quite small to hide, immobilises, can also stop the bike while running if someone happens to jump on it in a gas station or summit, reminds you to arm it, I'm going to get a second siren for it too, although the one it comes with is Fecking loud.
Instructions are in chinglish to a certain extent.
Wasn't too hard to fit once a location is determained and appropriate wires on bike located. manual would have made it easier.

i have that exqact model alarm in one of my bikes ( in pieces atm) works really well alot better than my other chinese cyclone alarm i bought with remote start about 4 components fell off the chip
so yes the jarcar one is very good and reasonably easy to install yourself
Cheers: MA

My bike is my main form of transport so the value of the bike means very little to the value of not having it.
Also the insurance Co.s are more enclined to pay out without argument if you have done all you can to secure the bike, have yet to see if discount applies to bike with immobiliser/alarm.

if thats those cyclone alarms for 65 bucks they arnt very good ...mind you i mounted mine on the back end of a hard tail chopper...prob ddnt like that too much thats why it broke you have to lay them flat i think i put mine vertically (so wires were pointing upwards vertically ...rather than horizontally...prob hy components fell off

I WOULD LIKE AN ALARM WHERE WHEN YOU PUSH THE REMOTE IT HAS A CLOAKING DEVICE TO MAKE THE BIKE LOOK LIKE A VIRAGO OR SAVAGE OR SIMILAR HARLEY TYPE KNOCK OFF , NO ONE KNICKS THOSE SHITTERS

Might be interested in a bulk buy if they do such things.
One question - where would you put the main unit of it? - The seat on CBR's is easy to get off to kill it.

Under the tank sounds good but... wont that get to hot? Especially when you have stopped after a long run.

Before you all jump in buying these things, it'll also pay to find out if they still use 'normally closed' immobiliser relays. If so, it means that cutting the power to the unit will allow the bike to be started. That means, snip one wire and ride away.

Well then we may aswell just get cardboard boxes with wires coming out so it appears like there is a security system on board

Hide the wires, if your really paranoid add your own relay.

I GOT A GERMAN SHEPARD WHICH IS REGULARLY TEASED BY CRAZY STEVE WATCHING MY BIKES, AND IF HE CATCHES SOMEONE IN THE ACT I WONT BE STOPPING HIM
skidMark
6th December 2005, 18:40
sooo you need to make a trailer to tow with your bike with a foaming at the mouth german shepard in the back which you take out when you park and tie it to the bike what do you do to arm the alarm make it yelp begging for a dog treat? then don't give it to it so it's angry...and not to mention hungary so then whoever comes up to it gets a chunk out of thier leg?
...until you come back and wait till it gives 2 barks then you give it food so you can safely get back on the bike without losing a limb?
you could always get a paris hilton accessory dog to go under your pillion seat those things are viscious lol ....and small enough to fit up your pant and when a dogs hungary you don't want it to catch a glance of the 2 meatballs and dog roll ...then youre in trouble :killingme
