Ok my bike is loud as hell, so I relpaced the exhaust packing. But it was a bitch to get it, so I just stuffed it in with a screw driver (then my hands were very itchy!!)
my question is, at the part where the internal pipe ends, should you cover that with packing? I didn't and I wonder if that is why it is so loud!
Cheers

What part is that then? You should have the packing tightly wrapped or packed around the perforated pipe (baffle). MX bikes are loud even when packed properly. If you wanted it quieter you could look for a RMX muffler.

Agreed , Also use the correct baffling stuff, as what happens u get a turbulant flow which wrecks havock with the port pipe relationship ( from memory leading to higher piston crown temps )
Ypu should have a tube from one end to the other of the silencer.

It also pays to completely disassemble the mufler when you pack it. You will probably find when you take it to bits that a large proportion (up to 100%) of the holes in the perforated pipe are clogged with carbon, if thats the case no amount of packing will help as you are effectively wrapping fibreglass around a solid tube. Also sometimes they get loud for a wee while after you have packed them and take a while to settle down again. My 400exc does this every time and I can't figure out why
