Chop it! Rake the forks, strengthen the frame, good engine. Bit o' spit and polish it'll be right as rain!

my main thought was make it into a full size chopper.....i spose i just couldnt resist throwing $30 at it to save her from melting down lol

Be under no illusions, chopping it will be A LOT of work & probably more trouble than it is really worth :slap:unless, of course, you have cheap parts sources & a well equiped workshop with a lathe & mig welder etc etc & know how to use them all. A few mates with the needed skills can also make things a lot easier. Sorry to piss on your picnic, just trying to be realistic

Even if you don't fully customise it, drop the American Choppers idea, you can still chop it without too much hassle. Plan carefully, if you haven't done anything like this before it will be a huge learning curve - but you gotta start somewhere. Get it going first maybe? Then start the modifying bit...

The Chopper Builders Handbook is full practical straightforward advice. Here;

Hmm yeah I did see that pic in the "Does a chopper.... " thread here - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=18562
Nice work. I appreciate anyone who's put the effort in - it doesn't have to be an OCC chopper to be good. The thing you know more now than when you started....:msn-wink:

A project bike can be fun but it never hurts to do some homework before starting to get an idea of how much to complete it, so a budget can be calculated........... which you then normally times by 3 going from some past experiances :killingme..its the little bits that can add up... Good Luck :niceone:

The certifying guy is the one you need to be friends with. VTNZ will likely have a list of local bike certifying experts. You work with him to build up your dream machine and he inspects and ticks the boxes as you go along until finally you get certification for the completed bike, get your VIN, wof and rego and ride off into the sunset.

Perhaps a GN owner should fit one, then go out and scare those who point and laugh at the ginnies.

markauckland - chat to Sunhuntin as her "pup" had a wee accident recently...
She ('pup') has since been replaced with "scuffy" her new GN250.

"Pup" a GN250 is all broken up after her wee mishap...
So there will be plenty of parts for you...

You're a hardcase Mark! :laugh:

That old girl looks like she might have already had all the good stuff removed already though.

Maybe something like Sunhuntin's old one is a better place to start? (One that has had the tarseal move beneath her in the last 15 years at least).

Who's is the GTO? You could flog that off...

It does not look all that good. I'd look for another GN and use this one for parts. Although pictures can be decieving, i.e. tardme.:slap:
