Hey People,
AMCC are still in need of more track marshalls for the weekend, So please if you can help out contact Chris at the bottom of this...
A Marshall gets:
Free Entry (Usually $10/15)
Free lunch (And not a bad lunch pack at all!)
Free Beer! (After satrudays racing)
Free Sausages (to go down with the beer)
and of course the best seat in the house!
Im racing myself so wont be able to marshall this one but have done it before and its the only way i will come watch racing now, too many positives to give the opportunity up... Anyways, if you think your up to helping out (and you dont already need to know anything serious about flagging etc, it all gets told to you on the day)

Ya know SM Ive been seriously thinking about this very situation.
The various clubs dont seem to be able to organise enough TRAINED marshalls to run a meeting properly.
Im thinking we need a professional team of marshals.
A core group of people who can turn up a meeting and run the whole thing

Now if the NZ public supported NZ Motorbike Racing as well as they do in Aus, then maybe NZ Motorbike Racing could afford professional Marshals. So how about we go do to the races and support our motorbike racers by watching them in action:2thumbsup

I don't know if it is a case of paying for them, maybe you might attract more, maybe not. The people you want is the people who have a genuine interest and ones that are prepared to do it for the love of the sport not just how much is in it for them.
Being a noob, so to speak, last month they put me with a bloke, who was into bikes, rides no more, has no affiliation with the AMCC, he just loves his motorcycling. He said that he gets to watch a full days racing, they feed you lunch, throw a sausage on the BBQ, and hand you a beer at the end of the day, what more can ya ask for. Not only that, he was bloody proffesional. If you ask me, this isn't just a motorcylcing thing, it happens everywhere.

Make sure you wear your kb shirt through the bright orange overalls. And lots of Sunscreen. Gets fu*ken hot out there. Hope I'm not on the outside edge of the Hill corner this year. Fu*ken scary place to be when you see a rider nearly loose it at 200KPM+ on it. Dam dangerous place to be as a Marshell if you ask me.

Cheers RiderInBlack for offering your services, and you too sudeep.
And i still dont actually understand why the point that you dont need to know anything serious about flagging has been highlighted... I knew absolutely ziltch before i first rolled up there, because last time i checked flag marshelling wasnt an option during school. There is only one way to learn! to turn up knowing stuff all the same way i did, its far from rocket surgeory... All you need is some obedience and i guess to be told the right things in the first place on what to do when something happens etc... Otherwise id hate to scare people away - as i initally was because i didnt wanna show how dumb i was not knowing where they raise flags/why etc.

At the last round we had 10 marshals, and absolute minimum to operate properly.
We start the morning at about 8.30 by putting out all the bales and setting them up, then inspecting the track, clearing debris and making it safe to ride on, we then spend the day in the hot sun or pouring rain picking up riders, at the end of the days racing we go around the track undoing the bales to be picked up again.
After doing it for about 2 years or so i'd have to say it's a pretty thankless job, sure we get lunch and free entry for our full days work, but the only time a rider has actually thanked me is after i've picked him up out of dirt and he cant ride away, and now you want to give us shit because some of the people we have to call in at the last minute dont know the flags properly, or we simply dont have enough people to wave the flags when our first priority is the rider and clearing the bike for the oncomming riders.....
Like all of the people that give up our time for you, we do it for the love of the game, if you dont want us there then i have other things to do :bash:

Yep I'll do the Sunday.
Yes in a perfect world we would have a team of crack commando flag marshals who are genetically bred and raised from birth to be the ultimate flag wavers. They would devote their lives to making sure race events went smoothly, expecting no payment or thanks since people only talk about marshals when things go wrong.
Unfortunately the world we live in is far from perfect. Also Motorcycle racing in NZ isn't exactly thriving at the moment so resources/support is low and its unfair to point the finger at organisers who are trying their best to do the job with what they have.
However there is hope. We can all do our own bit by helping out. Its not much to ask to do the odd day here and there even if its only once a year. I like to help the club out and return the favour for all the race meets they've run for my benefit. This will be my 3rd time now and I'm confident running a checkpoint. The way they usually work it is that the newer people will be matched up with the experienced marshals with 2-3 ppl working each corner so they won't throw you in the deep end alone.

It's always difficult to get enough volunteers. We (VMCC) have started to use a crew from manfeild that do most of the car events. They're pretty well on to it and only needed a little bit of training with the difference between cars and bikes.
Once you start paying people to marshall it gets difficult. OSH etc. will get involved and it all becomes messy.

rock on Damon! Couldnt agree more with you, and at the end of the day its me thats out there, riding, and im more then happy with how it runs, and i understand the small risks involved with having fresh recruits so often etc, i know this aswell as every other racer, we still choose to pay our money and race. Thankyou for giving up your day, im going to make it a point from now to thank as many marshalls as i pass thru the pits between races etc. Cheers! And wicked Hoon to have you helping :D

Maybe if the NZ motorbike racing organisations actually did some promotion this would help. If you dont ride a bike or happen upon this site what kinda coverage is out there for this weekend? Nadda, piss all, very little indeed....and yet the best NZ has to offer is going to be there.
I have seen nothing on TV or in the papers that would entice anyone to come along that isnt already going. No promotion means no public support. Got to spend it to make it.:spudwhat:

i get called up on friday to find out my work for the following four days, if i get either day free i will be there marshalling.
I been thinking perhaps we should try and do a show on the racing ourselves. Especially seeing that it gets shit all coverage on TV - eg summer series at puke got coverage of nearly every race, yet how much of this will be on tele - errr might, maybe just maybe see the guy that wins the final of F1 or whatever the top grade is (the 1000cc riders).
Programs like XSTV, Performance Car TV etc are all filmed by people that do it for a love of the sport/hobby.
All we need is someone that has a decent camera we can use, someone with some presenting skills/ a real passion for whats going on and then all we need to do is interview some riders (up and comers etc) and get some good footage for the day. Thats all they do with the D1NZ stuff, and it doesnt come out half bad.
Shit if we sort ourselves out we could even get some tank/tail cams out there on the track. It doesnt have to be an A class production but atleast a taster of what could be turned into a decent series for the racing season on tele!

MNZ has already confirmed that there will be an hours coverage of both the Puke and Ruapuna rounds and 30 min coverage of the other rounds. This will be on one motorsport and then also on sky and prime at later dates. Thats pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Yes I know that it will probably only have superbikes and 600's but its still a fair amount.

ok.. if i was up there i would be in line for a flag.....
but that would only be untill i had my own bike to race....
what better way of getting to know the good rides?...
than waving flags at them and picking them up :killingme
in saying that if i had my shit sorted.... hard to do when i'm blond and stand to piss.....
i should join the vic m/c club and they will tell me when they hold the races...they may even GIVE me a callender .. so i could plan it...

I hear what ya saying Hoon but just from a personal perspective I would not like to just rock up and without training and cause a problem on the track....its just me. Oh and alas this world we live in has OSH and all kindsa laws that can kick us in the butt when we think we are trying to do the right thing.
Having said that I am there tomorrow and more than happy to be teamed up with an experienced waver of the flag. I think I would look pretty cool in orange overalls

Well I'm back. Got home 10pm Yesterday. Weather stay fine on Sunday. It was an awesome days race. Some real close races in all the classes saw some real duels going on as riders tried their hardest to bet each other. If You weren't there you really missed out.
Marshelled the "Jennie" (Point 2, which is the first corner past the starting grid). Blood awesome place as you can see most of the track. Thanks for the help on Sat Crashe. Had the headset on Sun, and the 2 dudes that were helping me on the point were awesome to deal with. The marashelling on Sun was top grade, with everyone doing as they should. Only big problem at my point was when the Canadain 600cc Rider came off on the hairpin between "Jennie" and "Castrol". The Marshells at "Castrol" could see it better (I couldn't as it was on the blind side around the corner from my point), so covered it. It really showed that a Marshelling point might be needed there. Bike was a right off, but the rider was ok to ride his other bike in the Superbike class.
The Ambos were super (thank Sue and Glen). Poor buggers got to miss a lpt of the racing due to the odd badly timed mishap. Sorry about that Sue, but dam glad you dudes and dudettes were there. No praise is good enough to show how much we appecate what you Abmos do for us out there:not:
Well better get to work:doh:
