View Full Version : FOR SALE: "Special" 1990 ZZR250

Well, the exemption has come, and I'm looking to upgrade, and being a poor student, one bike comes, the other goes, so the zzr is for sale.
Now, I'll be brutally honest, the bike is definitely cosmetically damaged, the back is fine (just little wear and tear scratches kinda thing), hence the bike not being offered for $4000 odd...
Mechanically, the bike is awesome, I use it probably 6 days a week, it gets services at 5k, or a bit earlier, and this bike has to start first time everytime for me. I got it at 13k, put on about 9k in 6.5 months.
My camera is playing up at the mo, so I can't offer pics as of today, but indicators are all intact, bike just passed another wof today. Tyres (Dunlop Arrowmax GT501) have travelled about 250km.
For me, I found it good to have a reasonably fast 250, but not paying the extra for a bike with mint fairings meant that when I crashed I didn't write off that value that easily. The bike comes with two damaged indicators (can use the bulbs if the others blow), and another front guard, loose, but could be re-riveted if wanted.
Basically, I found the bike fast enough to potentially get into trouble, but not too fast to easily kill yourself (normal riding between corners meant about 140 max)
Questions welcome :2thumbsup
edit: the left handlebar is slightly bent, but I have another, straight, just didn't put it on in case I damaged that too. Comes with bike.
edit2: being a poor student and my bike being my only transport for everything, if its possible, I'd like to time the coming and going of my bikes closely if possible for the buyer...

so you got the exemption???
And a new bike on the horizon/in the gagre?

err... yes, I got the exemption, I don't see the need to break big rules like that...
As for bike, yes, researching now (todays story is in my other thread), hoping I can find my next bike and sell mine at the same time.
zx6r, or zx7r might be the next bike... nothing concrete, but could change if I sell the zzr easily... as there is one bike in particular that is waiting for someone to love :yeah:

Mate, I might be interested. Trouble is, I'm going to be away from Auckland from tomorrow until about the 20th Dec or so. I'll be keen to come have a look then if you haven't sold it.
Just out of interest, have you investigated what needs to be done to clean up those fairings? OR failing that, cost to get new ones?

What is you budget?? Cause zx7r's are fast but expensive or were you thinking an older zxr750??

Sweet, catch up then, and see.
I never really investigated, but Just Fairings in Hamilton does fairings (http://www.justfairings.co.nz/kawasaki.htm), right near the top.
there are a few cracks here there and everywhere, could be repaired with plastic welding, also if you have a look at a carport pic of the RHS, the top of the side fairings has lost all the lugs, but the tape I've tested to 160, and it holds
If I don't have success selling as is, I'll probably do it back up again, but I personally don't see the point, as if you crash, you lose all those extra dollars paid.
Aff-man: yeah, seen first and last, first been there for quite while... not looking at zx9r, apparently there are certain engine things that commonly have problems, was considering the zxr750 seriously, but unless I go down there, I can't be sure I fit onto it due to all those mods...

Ride a stock one unless he has changed the subframe (doubt it) it should be the same seat height and position.... and if you don't fit onto that bike you not gonna be able to get a sprot bike cause they are pretty huge...

yeah, sat on a zx7r, 96 and 97 very big bike, can fit on in relative comfort.
What troubles me is the tail section... the seat seems lower, which means its closer to the ground, and worse, less distance between pegs and seat

Good luck on the sale, bet that in a way u will be sad to see her go, a few memories in there... for example SH22 in the fog on a RH bend (say no more). Curious about the exemptions though, didn't know they existed. Good luck with whatever you decide on, let us know how it all pans out.

Yes, I am sad to see her go, first bike, and I realised yesterday when working on her, that I have really bonded with her as such. Realistically tho, I know I can't continue to ride her safely, I'm simply to big for her, and its beginning to cause problems in corners, because I am unconfident as to her abilities.
Not hassling naked bikes in any way, they can be seriously fast, but as a kid I fell in love with sportbikes, and thats what I want. Also, with my maximum budget of $6k (which has to include sale) that's way out.

herherherher, I had a feeling I was going that way... since I don't have a g/f, it ain't cheating anyway... just trying to convey the fact that I really had bonded with ... the bike. Happy?? :wait:

How about some close-ups of the fairings, the damage in particular?
Also some overall pics from front and rear quarters in decent light (if the sun ever shines in AKL)
Also, what work were you doing in the previous carport pics with the bits pulled off?

Piccies tomorrow, max res... I'll have to winzip to get onto site, so you know.
The work piccies was when I was replacing the rear brake pads... with twin exhausts, most rear work (even attaching/removing centre stand) means exhaust off first :bash:

Here you go, piccies as requested.
Had to zip them to post them, there should be no viruses or such like.
Also, just realised, I have a ventura pack rack (L brackets, short ledge thingie, and tall ledge thingie) for the zzr... not part of deal... $70 bucks I reckon...
Was going to use it, but then realised I didn't really need it, but it is secondhand.

No problem answering your questions, I was trying to tell you everything I knew, if you wanted to know
Also no problem with delivering, I remember my first ride on the roads, a motorway would not have been nice.
Hope you have as much fun as I did... err.... bar the off-road excursions.
