Odometer and speedo have stopped working.
Auto electrician says that the microprocessor in the speedo needs replacing.
Is there any one who knows of any other way e.g. reprogramming a processor?? Or inputing an odometer read out onto a new processor. Can this be done??
Also, would be interested to hear from anyone who knows of a wrecking VTR1000, for a second hand odometer (preferably with kms close to mine which is 16000km.)
Thanks a mil..

I priced one up from a Australian wrecker not so long ago, it was about $400.

Hi,
Am just looking to re-calibrate mine (VTR1000) after changing the gearing, - not possible though. I've seen on a few custom bike websites some of these being used. Know they won't look too trick but might get you back on the road while you look for another one.

What about a Speedo Healer or similar ?

As far as a replacement unit.. Ebay from a metric country is probably a cheap option.

If you don't want to spend a bazilion dollars for a Yellow Box or SpeedoHealer, and you (or someone you know) is good at soldering, Jaycar Electronics have a kitset speedo recalibrator for ~$50, plus a few dollars for plugs. I was going to get one for my VTR when I put a 15T countershaft sprocket on. I've since put the 16T VTR sprocket on the VFR, so I still need to buy one. Maybe I'll do it over Chrimbo.

Cheers,
Even better - I'm pretty handy with them, so I'll have a look, I went for 3 up on the rear. What a difference! So much more useable on the road, was allways in 4/5th on motorway - I know its a V twin but I still hate lugging motors at low revs. Think I'm only over reading by 5-7% in my guestimate - but I don't wanna be adding extra K's to the ODO + trip is usefull.
Thanks for that Vifferman

Yeah, it's great, innit? The single best value-for-money change you can make to the VTR. I went for the front sprocket only because it was cheap and the chain and sprockets were worn. I was going to change to a larger rear sprocket and standard front when I replaced the chain and sprockets.
When I did it, it was like the bike suddenly felt right, as if it now had the gearing the factory should've given it.
By the way - you probably already know this, but there is (if I remember right) a plug in the wiring loom near the speedo sensor drive thingo (tech term) in the countershaft sprocket cover. If you're lucky, you'll be able to get two plugs (M + F) the same as this, then just plug in your speedo corrector. Otherwise, you'll need to buy four plugs (2M and 2F) and replace the Honda ones. Jaycar don't have a good selection of these types of plugs so you'll probably have to try Deek Smeeth or an autoelectrician.

Ah I didn't but I do now. I'm gonna be geeky about the calibration and borrow my mates H/H GPS and find a quiet road and a marker pen - will do till after xmas.
I know what you mean about the gearing - It shoulda come out of the factory like that - I'm not sure how much top speed I've lost - maybe 20KM/H. Would only miss it on a track day.
Cheers.
