Dammit I'm agreeing with buggy - but yeah, what he said.
That and I grew up on bikes - I'm just "familiar" with them and not riding one wouldn't be right

Welcome to KB and a' that.
You're likely to get punched by more experienced KBers for asking a question that is likely to set me off on another lengthy post. :devil2:
Just so you don't incur too much wrath:
Lotsa reasons that I've already discussed (at length :bash: ) in other posts.
Mainly the fun and the spiritual aspects.

Hey Buggy: are those the reasons you changed from a car (assumption warning) in the first place?
I loove bikes for all of the aboves, but when I switched it was about avoiding the costs of fixing my car, car depreciation, mystery of the motorcyclist etc. Sex appeal didnt really come into it at the time.

nah, i still have a car too, but I just find the bike more fun to get from a to c. It's just quicker, more fun, less gas etc, park it anywhere, you can't lean a car etc.. and I just find I can be (prepare for wank talk) more 'at one' with the bike, than the car. I can happily snap 200kph out of the bike and think nothing of it. In the car, I get to 150 and ain't likin it.. Too much metal to be slingin around
And Wolf, we have covered this topic a few times before in the past, I remember a couple at least.. but I guess we have a lot of newbs since then, so no harm in another, ay?

it cant be sex appeal otherwise I would get laid more.
I feel I am indestructible in a car... less so on a bike.

Im into bikes cause of the sense of freedom , power & cameraderie [sp?] they provide. I also see them as rolling art, a way to express myself artistically. With my many & varied figlass parts, I really enjoy creating that certain 'look', including 60's cafe racer styles ,a customised modern day look, a 70's flat tracker or CAMS/BEARS racers etc etc .All it is to me is combining shapes to create a pleasing whole ie kinetic sculpture

It started out as economical transport for me and I found "hey, this is GREAT!" he riding bug got in and burrowed deep - I will lose the bug one day... around about the same time as I lose the ability to breathe.
"Sex appeal" never entered into it, but I did find that some of the chicks I dated did like bikes (I don't think they were interested in me because of the bikes, though.) The feeling of freedom compared with a car, the Zen-like state of total immersion in what you're doing here and now, the economy and the sheer fun of riding a bike.
I'm probably genetically predisposed to enjoy riding bikes - grandfather, great uncles, parents, uncle and siblings all rode/ride bikes. I'd have to be a genetic throw-back to Neolithic times not to enjoy riding bikes.

i like the fact that a lot of them dumbarse "boy racers" cant ride them.... tends to keep motorcycling down to earth...none of this neon, blow off valve. pssh pssh bull shit that they think is cool.
Only the sound of a 250 screamer with aftermarket exausts and the whine from the gear driven cams........gotta love it!!!

I've seen a fair few bikes with neons. Hondacmx450's 1100 was like that: "streetfighter" config with shitloads of neon highlighting the engine and wheels, Aluminium box frame polished to mirror finish, anodised bits, plenty of carbon fibre, aftermarket cans - totally pimped ride. My three-year-old heard it roll up and said "Batman bike" - and that was before he came outside and saw all the neon in action.

I dunno, i s'pose i got my bike cause i have always wanted one...i was more into performance cars, not this chrome and bling shit, proper engine work etc, and then when i got my bike, i just sort of fell in love with it!
I like the fact that it takes a helluva lot more talen to ride a bike well than to be able to just drive.
My car is still at home in the garage, i still look lovingly at it when i open the door, but the bike is the weapon of choice 90% of the time.
I dunno, dont really care bout the image etc...but i guess it is cool.

Cool fair enough....I personally dont really like neons etc on bikes....I think it ruins the 'bike' look of....Almost like the neons are to compensate for something on the bike to make it look more bling.

I like the idea of neon inasmuch as it would make the bike more visible, especially if you arrange it in such a way as to have a "WTF is that?" effect on the cagers. So far as a hoon-mobile goes, I'd rather go for the non-descript, understated look with shitloads of real firepower and some kick-arse mufflers to quieten it down so its lethality is masked. That was always my dream, so I've never understood the loud pimped cars the boi racers favour. In my day it was loud V8s or straight sixes with pimped out interiors - skull knob on the gear shifter, bucket seats, racing steering wheel and a big throaty sound, now it's pimped Subarus with loads of neon and a sound like someone violently throwing up in a tin pail.
I used to love the fact that even my 125s were faster off the line than a lot of the cars on the road - not the serious cars, but Junior Hoon with his pissy 1600 Cortina with twin-throat Webers and fluffy dice was easy prey for the TS125. The RD350 was just evil incarnate...
The word on the street just a couple of weeks ago, though, is that the boi racers won't take on even a 250 these days, which means they've learned what "power-to-weight ratio means... (Bugger!)

my dad said I couldnt have a bike...too many of his mates killed on em etc...
but they were already in the blood so what chance did I have...anyway 35 years on an hes dead but some of the bikes are alive an well and every day is a good day with one or two wheels on the black stuff...even if most days are on a ST1100...(still I dont have a speed limit and I dont pay the bills if it goes bang)

and by the way Im in love with the sound of the bike it's music to my ears....:2thumbsup

...I like speed as much as the next chap/chapette, but for me I can't beat the feeling riding gives me full stop...i've been in jet superboats that pull 6+ g's into corners, flown with a lunatic top dressing pilot, bungied, sky dived, scuba dived, jumped outta choppers, abseiled, rock climbed, white water rafted blah blah, but for overall total thrill every time...riding does it for me...whether it's cruising to a mates or carving it up on the weekend...ever since my first taste as a pillion on a mates bike from CHCH to Queenstown when I was a young chap, I've been hooked on riding...just can't get enough...:2thumbsup :2thumbsup :2thumbsup
