what about a Poker run or something as well?

I am all for contributing, this place seems more like a MC then a forum, with t's and rides and stuff.

Not able to get any contributions from some of the companies making money out of biking ? Think of the plugs that Motomail got; How about approaching some companies, and giving them a forum section where they can tell us about all the new stuff and latest offers coming along. We could even ask them questions about their stuff and give them feedback, take part in online surveys. Lots of fun, and beneficial to all. Yeah I know lots of work to get it going, but how much does asking cost ?

I faxed every motorbike shop in New Zealand about this site. I didn't get any responce. :(

bluninja
14th February 2003, 12:03
Maybe it needed the personal touch  perhaps they couldn't make out the WIIFM factor (what's in it for me), in terms of revenue, business growth, or market position. Unsolicited mailouts and faxes normally only get 0.5% response rate, and then usually cos there's some offer to hook them in.

But it's great that you tried.

The only failure is the failure to participate

Well, all we can do is keep spreading the word... had a talk to the guys at Motomail today....will talk to a few others.....you never know!

BRONZ got your fax and flicked it off with a supercilious statement about your logon name - "Spankme" ... ooooooh......I missed this months meeting , but will put them straight next month.

What level of donation were you looking for? I signed up to Motorcycle Online once they looked for money about 2 years ago and they asked for $11.94US originaly as a donation and last year as a compulsory amount if you wanted to stay as a member. They have quite a comprehensive site and their message board seems easier to use and read than this one is and they run chat rooms. From what I see, and I only discovered this last week by reference from Denill, you have the makings of a good site here. Is international traffic of any use to you as I could always get of few foreigners signing up, the ones I know were too tight to pay the fee to MO?

SpankMe

How much to wish to donate is totally up to you. This will always be a free site. The site focus is local, but anyone may join up and contribute to the discussion.

The online calendar and trader need to stay local thou.

But i would really like some more members for my Suzuki SV1000 site.

RE: "I faxed every motorbike shop in New Zealand about this site. I didn't get any responce."

I got an email from this site when it was first set up and dismissed it as yet another dubious site - whenI saw the Spank Me name.

I know Im not the only one as others I know did the same thing including the BRONZ Comment mentioned above

You might not have done yourself any favours there. Just a comment from a reader that nearly wasnt.

I got on here thru referal from another member.

alrite.. unfortunatly cant be too soon as i have heaps to do and wont have a weekend till at least after Sept 14th.

Also i dont believe in pushing things too fast, i.e the BBQ, i planned it like what, over a month in advanced and we got a good turnout.. so ill checkout the new roster etc and see when suits ME, BECAUSE ITS ALL ABOUT ME!! ME ME ME ME ME! haha sorry, going off on one of my selfish trips again.. haha.. ut yeah, ill think up an idea/dates etc.. also the pictures of BBQ will b posted @ around midnight 2nite.

28th August 2003, 13:39
Now that is a great idea (you feelin sick KK) If something like that occurs i'll be along $10 in hand. Or i wouldn't mind if you like ack on an extra $1 or 50c to the stickers or something for site funding :done:

Big Dog
28th August 2003, 16:16
:stupid: After all this is a bike forum and you do advertise other peoples rides and events without charge. $10 Each to go do the Coromandel loop or similar x 30 participants would still be more than most of us could donate on our own. Shite could you immagine if half of the website showed?

:niceone:

Good Idea KK, Perhaps you could organise something so SpankMe isn't doing every thing?

ps fully reccomend liability disclaimers.

Hell yeah, all meet up somewhere and depart in different skill levels and end up somewhere for a BYO BBQ after. Anyone south of Bombays volunteering?

Perhaps making going on these Rides a prerequisite for buying stickers?

Take turns at organising different rides? KK is clearly organising this one but I would be quite happy to organise another later.

SpankMe doing everything? No offence and all, spankme does heaps :) but look around a bit more, its also just us general riders/suggestions that get things going, i.e the KB BBQ - i rememberd a post like 6 months ago randomly, and thought, hey, that would be a good idea.. and started to post about it, etc etc.. and the little ride you and firefight had etc, not so many ppl, but still an organised event by just general users :)

so yep, i havnt checked the roster yet, BUT!! I HAVE THE PICS! WILL MAKE A POST IN NON RIDING ABOUT THEM!

Big Dog
29th August 2003, 14:06
No offence kk. Perhaps you could collect some of the ride fees in advance to pay for the stickers and give 1 to each person who comes on the ride like a ride badge.

Personally I would rather pay $10 for 5 rides than $10 for 10 stickers.

What do "Y'all" think?

Yeah good diea.. im keen, or even if.. i feel odd about taking ppls money b4 things happen.. not that i dont trust myself.. but i know what the other person is likly to think :) so i dont mind puttin up a few hundred, or say $300 for all the stickers or rides or whatever.. im bound to make it back somehow someday thru this. im keen as, just need to work stuff out.. the next free day i have is September 20th, saturday. but i work the sunday afterwards @ 7am.. so yeah, no pissup afterwards unfortunatly, unless we did a ride on friday night? friday the 19th of sept i finish work @ 8pm.. hmm... maybe a pissup that night then a ride the next day or somthing? hmm, whos liver can still handle it? cmon show the youth how its done SPman!

Would not want to go on anything with too much of the tight stuff at night at this time of year but a nice lazy ride up to wellsford and back would be all good.

Keep the twisty stuff for the daytime so us newbies don't end up :roadkill: . Twisties on known roads are all good at night new ones suck.

I was at Sawyers Monday and Wednesday and no-one offered me coffee - but then I'm a weirdo on decaf anyway, but Brendan did go out dirt bike riding with me for a couple of hours on Wednesday around Red Rocks and up Long Gully to try and aid my choice of bike. I think that was more use than the coffee. No doubt they have coffee there, I just didn't go looking for it.

As for the topic of this thread, Spankme I hope you get a few more donations as it would be great if you can keep this site going and I guess somehwere along the way you will end up paying for disc space and bandwidth if you aren't already.

I think this site has done very very well.
Making a website as good as this is a huge achievement.
To think that you have delivered your site to thousands of people is quite a good thought.

I have my own website http://www.computec.dynu.com which I host myself on my Internet connection. Has now 300 users on it and gets about 300 hits a day, which is ok. (Hoping to get more users with the LAN that im setting up)

I also like the fact that there are no advertisements on this site - god don’t you just hate the bloody flashing annoying thing.
Its one thing I will not put on my site no matter how much someone pays me and I hope this site doesn’t get any either.

I have a link in my links section of my site to this site, every bit helps. I have also got a few friends from tech onto this website as well and im sure affman does the same there as well.

Keep it up Webmaster SpankMe !!!! :2thumbsup

I will probably go for 3 smalls and 2 large when I spot the next run. This site is just great ...especially for people like me who have got back into bikes after a long (long !!) lay off......now that I am unencumbered by female "cage only" requirements and have some spare time on my hands, I can get on with improving my golf and re-acquianting myself with my bike. It would appear that the bike remembers me better than my golf game does !!

Ok you are kiwi based so why not publish a bank account number and people who are use to paying accounts on-line can just drop you a donation via online banking. I hear this being mentioned by others and I would send you a donation if I had your account details. To identify the member paying they just put their logon name in the ID section of the payment.
Hmmmm I like the idea of a KB gathering. Why not pick a place like Taupo and see how many turn up. With it being central it could be a great turn out and a donation of $10.00 just to be part of the gathering would be great. See if you could get the race track or just invade the rugby grounds hot pools what ever and sit around and have a few cold ones then head for home. After all it is summer :soon:

I have a parts order in with Turnbulls in Palmy I have to pick up next week, I will see if Phil is there and have a chat to him see if they are interested in contacting you re the site, they do a lot in promoting motorcycling stuff in the Manawatu, will also go chat to Manawatu motorcycles, they're a small place but good to deal with and maybe the profile will help them..... the members could all also do that to the places they deal with and also try to promote this site with the comment that "we will support businesses that support KB" Businesses will only support and promote things that they think they will get something in return:yes: and if enough people come in and comment about KB it will give them the message that this site is popular with motorcyclists *Their customers*:scooter: and maybe their support might get them a return.

Other thing to promote and get KB into peoples faces is to wear the Tshirts, badge, cap etc, I wear a KB badge and have people look at it closely and gives me the opportunity to tell them what KB is

Maybe you could offer the option of a free badge with every donation over $20 or something like that .... members could donate... get the badge and give the surplus badge(s) to someone or even sew it on yah kids jacket or something like that (what you mean .... you dont have kids) LOL

Im sure others have ideas to promote KB maybe .... the fundraiser bike runs a great idea too....would be into that.
