I am involved in bodybuilding, my first comp. next year, and that programme did more damage to the sport than anything has done for a number of years. There's no way I'm ever going to put anything in me that comes out of a bottle to help me win a comp.
I was really disappointed in that 'documentary' because they didn't show anything of her diet regime, exercise stats, or the drugs she takes. I would have liked it to be a lot more than just "She was the youngest woman to turn pro" big f*cking deal. Maybe she should have been given some real advice early on and fininshed puberty before getting into heavy weights.
The only thing I agree with her about is that people don't understand the hardwork that goes into the sport.

Sorry but female body building is just WRONG on so many levels

I'm not a fan of body building and was just half watching it, I didn't think they "looked" good from the pov of conventional looks but you've gotta admire anyone who has the drive to do that! I missed if she was taking steroids.

I remember the Miss Olympia from about 20 years ago (shame I can't remember her name!) and she looked like a model - sure she was toned and had muscles, but you could tell she was female. I didn't see the start of the show and when I heard 'Joanna' talk, I would have put money on it being a man. When I saw the face, I would have upped the bet! Those 'women' were not in the least bit attractive, they all looked like drag queens (in fact that's not quite correct, most drag queens are far more attractive than that) and all but one sounded like a man - if that's what steroids do to you, why on earth would you do it?

I was into bodybuilding many years ago, never had any desire to compete I just enjoyed the sport. I doubt very much if there are any 'women' who look like that in the sport here.

It was about as exciting as watching a beauty contest, but with hideous contestants. That video of 'Joanna' as a young bodybuilder showed someone who still looked female - she certainly doesn't now, she looks grotesque.

Each to their own I suppose. She was massive and it obviously affected every aspect of her life.
Credit where credits due, takes a lot of grit and determination to do something like that to your body. While I didn't like the way she looked, I appreciated the commitment required.
The funniest bit were her little parents.....bet they never thought there little girl would be bigger than most men.

It used to be one of the requirement for ms universe that the contestants still looked 'feminine' but it seems to have changed.Cory Everson is a good example, she was plenty muscly but still looked like a chick too.....

Working across the road from a Jim (he's a Tony actualy) I end up seeing a few in here - my observation is as the muscles get bigger....the brain shrinks in proportion.Body builders are really, really thick,a more brain dead section of society I have never seen - stay away from the steroids.

Mum and I wanted to watch that but missed it cause we were still driving home.

When I first seen that ad for that I thought one of the women was actually a bloke, first it was her looks. Then when she spoke.

No offence but it honestly made my skin crawl. I admire both the female and male form, but felt there was nothing about her/their looks to admire. I thought it was absolutely disguisting, from the few small shots I seen on the ad.

Then again this is the thoughts of a young female who doesn't even like muscley as guys.

Don't get me wrong, toned can be nice. But then there is............. overly done.. argh.

EDIT: Actually who am I to say anything. If the ladies are happy with how they look, and with what they are doing then good for them. =)

A pretty extreme program, good for them if they want to go that hard.

Not super flash though, when she was naked she looked like she had developed a small penis. YUK. I'm guessin it was just they way her flap was hanging down, again YUK.

I spent the show fantasizing about the 'pelvic floor' muscles they must develop. Tighter than a snapper's arse hole and drier than a mouth full of weetbix without the milk.

Yeah as usual WINJA you're right. I've been on the juice for as long as I can remember. It was nothing special at first a bit of OJ at a party or two, then that wasn't enough I needed more. The fruits were the first - Mango and Orange, Pasionfruit Orange. I fooled myself that as long as it was mixed with Orange it didn't amount to anything more than recreational. Yeah I knew, and I didn't care then I started straight juicing - Kiwifruit, grapefruit. Oh god then, the vegetable juices. Carrot and tomato first they were so much better than just plain fruit. It was the kick I got, they were somehow more 'edgey'. Man how do I describe flying on those two? I realised I have a problem when I woke up with an empty bottle of spirilina in my hand the other day, there was another empty bottle on the floor beside me - Wheatgrass!! Man I'm so low I'm not sure if I can kick this. I've decided to "Just Say No To Juice" it's going to be a hard road but with the help of the good lord above and Chris from Stokes Valley I'm sure I'll pull through.

Rachel McLish was the one I was thinking of, but Corey Everson was also still recognisable as female. These women were great inspiration but I can't honestly imagine any young girl looking up to someone like Joanna, she may be dedicated but she's certainly not attractive.

I love well toned bodies and can appreciate them whether they are male or female, but I don't find veins sticking out all over a body, huge, unnatural breasts and legs that are so muscular they look like a cowboy whose horse has run away, in any way appealing!

Such true words Ms Beemer.

My ex kinda liked the look (not like Joanna) and I am sure that my body would lend itself well to bulking up but I do not like the look at all! Suffice to say I won't be going there! Ever!

I like guys who have defined muscle and are toned, but I don't care much for the sixpack ab thing at all whether it's a guy or a chick!

Well said. I started off thinking OMFG what is she like, but grew to admire her drive as the programme went on.

I thought the parents were just selfish, moaning 'where's the grandchildren' in every shot.

Yeah, cover up her face and the saggy little boobs and it's a physique most men would be proud of. Definitely not feminine.

And she's what? 26? Man, I'd hate to see her if she's still around at 40.
