There seems to be quite a number of drummers who ride motorcycles. It's always intrigued me that drummers seem to be the one in the band that have some sort of vehicle that is faster/more exciting than your average for of transport, and I'd like to try and see if that is more than an anecdotal observation.

Also of the drummers I know who ride motorcycles a large percentage of them tend to listen to, and in some cases play, music that is either really heavy, math-rock, or a combination of the two (a la Mudvayne).

So then, assuming I've made a fair observation:

Who are you?

What kit are you playing at the moment?

Are you gigging (and if you are, what size engine have you dropped into the CF Bedford/Toyota Hilux, and are you still dragging the bass players sorry arse all over the countryside?)?

Who am I!! Ha, you know who I am.

Playing Premier Artist Maple but not gigging, need to find a band soon though.

Biggest inluences include Chad Smith, Dave Abbruzzese, Matt Cameron, Mike Bordin, Herb, Eric Kretz, Carter Beauford, Stewart Copeland and Vinnie Paul

I keep in shape by drinking beer and rooting chicks. That is until I can get back to the gym when my arm has healed!

I'm a basher...hav no kit at the moment...had a lovely tama 7 piece...
I used to be in a band in my late teens earliy twenty's....but was the lead singer/rythum guitar/foot tapper....the band drumer taught me to play...it was a awesome form of stress relief!!! as good as the driving range.... :yes:

music I listen too...everything but the serious hard metal and pure gangsta type rap shit...hav quite a large 80's rock/pop collection...listen to anything

Main Styles:
Black, black symphonic and progressive death metal, power metal sometimes and even a bit of jazz and sometimes drum n' bass type stuff.

What kit are you playing at the moment?

1990's Mapex Venus 5 Piece with 4 zildjian scimitars all round (pretty screwed) and a pearl double pedal, Evans Hydraulic skins on the toms, tight remo on the snare and an aquarian bass skin.

Are you gigging?

Not right now, just working on a weird side project that will start back up again soon.

Biggest Influences?

Tyrm (Emperor), Nick Barker to an extent (Dimmu Borgir), Cato Bekkevold - whom is one of my biggest influences (Sirius) and a whole lot of others that I could only dream of being as good as.

How do you keep yourself in shape?

Very heavy gym sessions, not much cardio though, but for blast beats you need to be strong and not so much enduro I find. Or mabey that just comes hand in hand. :niceone:

I have some percussive skills. Better with things that shake and rattle and you can dance with - than hit.

But dropping another name as i do sort of on topic - i know Rickki Rockett - Poison - Every Rose - we're not worthy, we're not worthy - a little bit.

He's had Bonnevilles and now has a new Thruxton - we have talked occasionally.

He's how I re-dicoverd the Rat Fink and Big Daddy Roth's work that was lost in my youth.

I also look at those pics of me 'modelling' the rev'it leathers and i'm so reminded of the Mad magazine parody of 'Every Rose has a Thorn' - it was about being a rock star and was called 'Leather Clothes Must Be Worn'.

Currently playing Shaftesbury Vistalites by Rose Morris, just reskinned with CS Dots all round, open ended, Ludwig Supraphonic snare (have 2 of), practise cymbals on but my good set of cymbals are all big Paiste 2002's. I am Bonham. Also have an old 60's dunger jazz kit, WINZ, some old new zealand brand, is maple or mahogany though so sounds pretty sweet, is on loan to the boss, and then my first kit, a '95ish Pearl Forum that I wrapped partially in woodgrain vinyl. Avatar is the Pearl Forum with it's snare that I sold off to get more supra's, 14" Paiste 2002 sound edge hats there too, keyhole from where a crack opened up. Never leave your kit with your guitarist buddy while you're at Uni for the year.

Main influences Led Zeppelin and James Brown type stuff, but keen on anything bar death core metal really.

In a 2 man band that ends up on hiatus all the time as we shift cities due to Uni/work/etc, but gonna be short on time for any major gigging, unless I start takin' ginseng or something. www.redwoodmusic.co.nz Buddy is comin' up here to Aucks to do a music production course next year though so we'll see what we can do.

Became a gym fiend towards the end of high school and through Uni, $55 for the year, was too good to pass up, so that's what I do to keep in hulking rippling shape. If I didn't eat so much pizza.

No overtly powered machines, always of the less power with well lighter machine philosophy, Lotus style. Got my old '88 Sentra Sportswagon, she hauls well enough, and will one day become the donor for the 2 door spaceframe stationwagon. The NSR is the most powerful piece of machinery I own probably. And getting into buckets and go karts as soon as I can, did go karts before Uni, miss that stuff.

Definately something about drummers and nifty machinery of some sort though huh.

Been drumming for 7 years. Started off with a black Maxtone, but now I've got a halfway decent kit. Yamaha Stage Custom with a few extra whistles....
22"x18" bass
12"x10" tom
13"x11" tom
16"x18" floor tom
14"x6" Yamaha steel snare

Cymbals are...
10" splash
16" crash
18" china
20" ride
14" hi-hats (all Paiste 802)
Sabian B8 16" crash

Mounted on a mixture of Yamaha, Pearl & Tama stands, along with a Gibralter rack.

Equipment also includes a woodblock, cowbell, tambourine, DW5000 doublekick, and 6""/8"/10" rototoms.
I have a Yamaha Stage Custom 16"x16" floor tom on order to complete the set-up.

Skins are Aquarian Studio X on the toms, Evans Genera Hd Dry on the snare, and Evans EQ3 on the bass.
I use Vic Firth & Vater sticks.

Main influences are Travis Barker (Blink182), Jon Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Tre Cool (Greenday) Buddy Rich (Independant), Animal (Dr. Teeth And The Electrical Mayhem - The Muppets) & Lars Ulrich.

I don't do much to stay in shape apart from drumming itself. I find "working out" bloody boring. I would much rather just play my drums to keep fit. Seems logical to me...

What hXc neglected to tell you is that he is also a percussionist-his percussion kit (which he shares with 3 others) is literally a load of old rubbish including aerosol cans, paint tins, corrugated iron etc all attached to scaffolding. He marches round with 10 L metal cans on his feet tapping out some rhythm or other, lighting aerosol cans filled with LPG with BBQ lighters. They even have an aerosol can xylophone. With their fabulous lighting display and gorgeous dancing girls it is vey impressive!
I have to say these drummer peoples are all veryclever! I would love to have that kind of talent.(Actually, any kind of talent would be nice...!)
