View Full Version : How can I carry my GF without squashing my privates?

I am pretty new to riding and VERY new to pillion carrying... although I feel like I am starting to get the hang of it.
Just one thing my bike has a single seat (Dont know the technical term) for both myself and the passenger.
When ever I brake or go down hill my pillion pushes on me and we both slide forward this is fine until I cant slide any further forward as the tank is between my legs:doh:
We are both wearing cordura pants which I am quite sure really doesnt help.
Any top tips?? I thought maby of putting velcro on my ass:2thumbsup

It's really simple and something you should have been doing before now. Grip the tank with your knees under braking. If that doesn't work, got to the gym you loose-limbed collection of pipe cleaners.
Get the GF to grip your hips with her knees when you brake.
If you are pressing on, so to speak, get the GF to use her hands to brace herself on the back of the tank under braking. It feels difficult to start with, but with practice, she'll barely have to do anything to stay in place.

try to get the pillion to place their hands on the grab rail behind them, if you have one. or else just be aware that when you brake it will happen and try not to brake so hard, or accelrate to quickly or you might lose them off the back. with pillions its a nice experience take it slow.
i have a top box or the rear of my bike, my partner loves it due to she can lean on it, although not reccomended. and she uses the grab rail behind to steady herself when stopping. i take it easy with her, but without it's all fun.

i agree the pillion squeezing her thighs is a nice experience and excuse to brake hard.
that is why i don't pillion guys. it's just not the same.

Thanks for the suggestive comments :D Do you wear cordura JIM2? I am not sure you understand how sliperly my pants are there is NO way I can grip the tank with pants I am wearing... I have been trying trust me... I can do it by my self but with her pushing on me under braking there is no contest.

Well said, pillion (female) sliding foward into you is half the reason to carry one, bit of thigh squeeze is good value too :blip:

Go to the Gym.
I wear draggin jeans and leather mostly, though I have worn cordura in the past and had no issue with not being able to grip the tank.
One thing that may help is if you get some of that 3M clear film and cut out a couple of pads to apply to the tank knee cut outs. I find that stuff a little gripper than paint, and it will protect the paint when your adductors finally develop the strength to squash an over-boiled pea between your knees.
Oh, and stop cleaning the seat with vinyl restorer.

Which gym do you recommend Jim2? and which workout should I be doing in particular?:wari:
Meanwhile I think I will stick some superglue on my gfs ass before we head up to the coromandel for christmas!:innocent:

I havn't had that trouble so much but had a hell of a time trying to teach the pillion not to headbutt my helmet everytime i breaked(even when changing gears).
So your going to go up to the coromandel now. is Mo going up with you? or just you and the missus?

As others have said both of you squeezing with your thighs.
But also the obvious one is for pillion to place her hands on the back of the tank as you are braking.
Under real heavey braking this is the best solution.
That said if she has short arms (read - you are too fat) placing her hands on you thighs (no not your inner thigh) and bracing there will work well too.

Distracting as it may be, her grabbing his inner thighs would stop banging privates on tank....

get the person on the back to rest their hands on the tank and when you brake they push back on the tank when you brake or go down hills.
when i use to go on the back of my mates 600 i did that and it worked really well
ok i see i was abit late with that reply

when i pillion, which is often, i place my hands on the tank, this means i am braced with the rider also and under heavey excelleration i can still hold the rider. before you know it she will know what you are going to do at the same time you do.
Safe riding

I kept doing that on my first pillion. Well it was pretty much my first. Annoying for me, can't imagine how it felt for the guy in front.

when i pillion, ive learned to lock my legs when i can see a braking situation. this means my feet lock onto the pegs and then my knees lock, which prevents me from sliding too far forwards. i also lean back slightly so as not to headbutt. i find it easier to pillion if ive got something to lean on, otherwise i tend to lean on the rider...
or get her her license and buy her a bike! problem solved!

It's worse when you have a separate higher seat for the pillion and the pillion slides forward and down into your seat. Jim pretty much mentioned it all I think.

Any Gym is fine mate, and the exercise is the adductor machine.
Use gloves when you put the super glue on. That way you won't be following your GFs naked arse everywhere.

I could be really cruel and say get a lighter GF so she doesn't slide forward! :2thumbsup
I find when I am on the back of my husband's bike I tend to push down on the pegs and also grip his thighs with my thighs (I think he kinda likes that part!) when he's coming to a stop - but it does take practice. Try pillioning on adventure rides when you're going downhill in the mud! I usually brace myself against the tank but as I am not very tall I can usually only do this with one hand, using the other to hold him around the waist.
He moans when I fall asleep on the back, because my head gets heavier and heavier until my helmet is pressing his head forwards!

From the fingers of Mrs J:
Hey I been pillion for more years than I'm willing to admit to...headbutting is the riders fault not the pillion. Smooth out your gear changes and braking. But in emmergency braking - just get used to the back slap. I also squeeze with the thighs but more for the takeoffs- (nice for both) The hands on the tank a must for down hill cornering, keeps me intune with whole cornering sequence and close cuddles are added bonus for me besides I want a whole man - not the crushed left overs.:)

Thanks for all your thoughts. My GF is 1.6m tall and about 55kg so the getting a smaller/lighter gf is kinda not going to be possible.
Also I tried suggesting the staying in the kitchen thing but she too offence and wanted to know where you lived WINJA to %&$%&&% your ass.

Try that....do a product review and post yr findings
Otherwise go with the knee gripping thing. I found the same thing on my last bike and learnt to anticipate it it coming and braced myself and pushed back a bit. But after a time my wife got more experienced at pillioning the issue sort of faded away.

I all so ride with my partner and she found it easy to hold the tank . it helps when you take off fast and slow down fast as no stress on the rider :2thumbsup

Funniest thing I have done is just before you come to a complete
Stop grab a big handful of breaks and stand up on the pegs
Then the pillion is the one banging there privets on the tank
(Soon teaches them to brace themselves) and especially funny with a split level seat. :wari:
