View Full Version : AUCTION for TWO SMOKES RACE FUND!!

Quasievil
12th December 2005, 10:03
Hi all, okay heres the situation, we have a young racer amongst us that is showing truly fucking amazing results on his ZXR400 reasonably standard race bike. On the weekends round of the Nationals he pulled a 1.07 at Puke and qualified in 6th place just behind bikes which are worth ten times as much, and modified to a much higher level.

Two Smoke (Chris) is showing a great deal of promise for a young racer in NZ and certainly has the potential to go to greater things, like most people with talent they do not get there without a bit of help, in this case Chris is unfortunately struggling a bit for enough coin to get down to Manfield's round of the nationals this weekend.

Its the intention of a few senior members to get this guy on the Grid this weekend. Nothing should be asked for Nothing, so I thought of a way that I can help Chris out, as a leather importer I can offer Chris and KB members an awesome Auction deal to get Chris to the track.

Check the thread for Auction items.

than just this race meeting but it's not going to eventuate before this weekend. We all need to recognise the immense talent and hard work Chris has put in to go this far. Also Quasi is to be commended for his amazingly generous offer.

I've managed to secure a $150 donation from a KBer who wishes to remain annonomous. He doesn't want to bid, just understands that Two Smoker has the potential to go all the way with this and wants to do his part.

You guys are lucky enough to have the opportunity to not only get a great deal on some awesome quality leather goods, but also be part of getting an up and coming racer, with enormous ability, on the grid for round 2 at Manfeild.

Happy bidding.

Chris is absolutely stunned , yet bloody happy !! so good stuff guys n Gals

As a thought...

What does he need to really stick a rocket under his career... what's it going to cost, and can we do a fund raiser (i.e. nationwide raffle) or similar?

Rhetorical questions but ...
IF we got a new bike/prize at cost
...and...
We kicked off a raffle or similar and got those books out to bike shops nationwide
... what could be achieved?

Does TS have sponsors at the mo? Does he need more?

Sorry if they're dumb questions - I simply don't know.

Quasi - split this off into a separate thread if it's appropriate - I really don't want to hijack this one

Thats a good line of thinking there MDU, I know colemans and putoline are helping him out but like you say if you split this in to another thread I'm sure he"ll give everyone the low down.

On another good. Good on you Quasi, thats fucken awesome of you mate. Chris just came in and showed me the text and he just couldn't believe it. Was absolutely rapt.

I'll also be putting up another auction for a weekend in my house at some stage shortly, so all of those looking for a weekend over the holidays maybe send me a PM with some preliminary interest. Cheap rates.

And a big thanks to Dave (firefight) for being a good cunt and winning the last auction for the house and giving the money to Chris.

This is awesome guys, lets keep it going.

He does need a few more sets of brake pads and possibly discs. as his was glazing up at the puke nationals. but im not sure as he said they were great after the second race after me and mily sanded the crap of his pads and discs. Was watching TS while Marshalling this WE. It was amazing what he was doing with the bike he had. Wish to help him anyway I can. Will pledge $50. Just give me an account no. to put it in. Wish I could help him set-up a better bike, but just don't have that kind of money or knowledge, but with the power of KB we might do so together. Let's get behind Chris:2thumbsup

Has anyone tried sparc or similar gummint departments with too much money? It's fucking sickening here we are (as a nation) pissing a billion dollars a year into Telecom's back pocket and we can't find a few grand to support an up and comer.

I'd be bloody gobsmacked if we couldn't at least get a 1:1 deal.... I'll see what I can do.

Don't take this the wrong way, but anyone notice another young KBer who managed a PB of 1 10.6 on a 14 year old bike, the next oldest bike was 4 years newer! Take a bow K14, who also managed a top 10 finish, too :2thumbsup
Nice work, Kirk, congrats!!

Wellyman
12th December 2005, 21:55
I also think Logan is another great rider (KK) but his bike is also struggling with bike setup. (intakes or something?). There is some great talent bulding up but nobody wants to help them out.
Good works guys, keep on bidding! Chris needs the cash.

RiderInBlack
13th December 2005, 05:41
Just a throught here on a good way us broke buggers can support our racers. Here's the plan:

Find out which clubs/races give MTA vouchers for Marshalling.
Volunteer for those races as a Marshall. They are always needed, you get to see the racing for free and often a lot of inside information on what is happening on the track.
Donated the MTA vouchers to your favourite KB rider. The aim of this is to get a win win situation. There is always a needed for Marshals, who are vital to run the races (this in it's self is a way of supporting our racers). Your favourite racer gets some much needed funding via the vouchers. You get to see them in action for free, and often learn more about who is out there and how they are doing.
Get into it KB'ers. Paeroa is coming up on the 19th of Feb and I know that the AMCC give Marshals free accommodation, fuel vouchers, and beer for that race:2thumbsup

Definately, K14's improvement over the day was awesome. Dropping 4 seconds from his first qualifying lap to his PB was awesome!!!

Yet again we see that thing about why support one racer and not another....

TS is getting the profile, so lets just get behind him. Remeber, you can always help out one of the other guys/gals too, if you wish. But lets not get into a repeat of the team KB thread....

If you feel that someone else needs supporting, start an auction for them, offer to manage them, or whatever. I´ve chosen to throw my limited resources behind TS because I think he´s got potential, and I´ve known him for a long time. Wish I could do more, but I´m 12,000 miles away and dont have a job.......

Joni
15th December 2005, 07:03
I agree with the sentiment that not just one rider should be supported. Im working of an idea in my mind about a genuine team KB, where a group of racers, who are all memeber of KB can benefit... once its all clear in my head I will post it. Yes the likes of TS will benefit, but so will other racers on KB, someone like K14 or KK for example, Im thinking that they will will have to meet certain criteria to be part of the team, however I think it would be a great way for all the talented racers on KB to benefit. Let me me iron it out in my head first, then I will ask what you guys think.

EDIT: I think what you are doing is great Quasi!

Quasievil
15th December 2005, 07:16
Yeah thats all nice and fluffy and in an ideal world I would support all racers, even I could do with some extra cash for tyres repairs etc for my race bike however TS is my mate and this is about him continuing with the national series.

Ouch, that would of hurt.

I'm not going to pretend I know two smoker or the reasoning behind his decision, so I'll not pass judgment based on my ignorance.

The rest of this post is just my personal opinion on sponsorship in general in NZ and not a personal judgment on any one.

As we are a very small population and with motorcycle racing being a minority sport that is not shown on television, the sad fact is that sponsors very RARELY get any where near the return that they put into it (yet alone a profit).
Therefore the majority of sponsors are just doing it because they are enthusiasts and love the sport and genuinely want to help the rider/s they support.
As up and coming riders progress and larger sponsors are found, why the hell burn off the old sponsor, will that sponsor feel like helping out the next up and coming rider? I think not.

In my 20 years of racing on and off, I've seen many prima donas come and thankfully go. They all seem to think that because they are such fabulously fast riders the sponsors owe them everything. I've seen riders at the top level do 8 laps on a new tyre in practice, then demand another one be fitted for qualifying. I've also seen a fully sponsored rider drop his machine, smash the engine side cover, pick the bike up, look down at the smashed cover with dirt PACKED into the side of the exposed motor, arrogantly push the starter button and ride back to the pits. Next race, surprise surprise it blew up 3 laps in. The next year that distributer did not sponsor anyone. Big surprise. Not.

I'm very, very fortunate that I have a personal sponsor that is an out and out enthusiast (dickytoo) Without his help I would not be able to race, end of story. So a HUGE thanks to you Richard.

For the first time in years, I got the courage to approach a bike shop for assistance, but before I did, I got some good results. I then wrote an article for the local paper extolling the virtues of the local bike shop and making it clear how their expert help and assistance had enabled me to get the result I got.
The paper printed the story and only THEN did I approach the shop. I showed them the article (they had already seen it) and told them this was the sort of thing I can do for them. The end result was some free workshop hours and I was STOKED.

So, since the sponsor is unlikely to get dick all return for the $$$ spent, I feel riders should be concentrating on what they can offer the sponsor, not the other way around.
Rant over
