can anyone tell me how to adjust the 2 stroke oil pump on my dt 175, and how lean can i safely run it whilst performing torture on the engine?
my one is still on run in settings, and smokes quite a bit (ugh....carbon on ports)
oh yeah, 100mls of 15w oil and a 3mm washer under each fork cap does wonders for the forks both on and off road, i can now stoppie my one on tarmac, and it rides far better on the dirt-anyone who has a similar bike with shocks that feel too soft for safe "late braking" PM me and i can give you a step by step guide!

What sorta two stroke oil are you feeding it?

nothing flash
shell advance 2SX has always been preferred.
anyone know some other cheap(ish) semi synthetic oils and where to get it?

The first thing I'd do is run it hard for 10 minutes and see if that changes the smoke problem.

If that doesn't work, go to Waikato Yamaha, ask for Ken, and ask him what sort of two stroke oil you should be using. If you ask him nicely, he may tell you how to adjust the oil pump....(although I'm not sure you need to).

And the problem with this is ? It''s a two smoker. They smoke. 'Tis what they do. It's GOOD. Smells nice too. And as far as I recall the Dt175 is a real two smoker without all that powervalve shit. So carbon in the ports isn't likely to be a problem (Phoebe ran 40000km between having her heads off, and there was bugger all carbon buildup in teh exhaust port anyway). Let it smoke. Neat trick is to point the zorst at someone who denigrate sthe mighty ringa-ding-dings, and hook your foot round the oil pump cable. Watch them cough and splutter :devil2:

Don't tell him that!! I live in the same town as him and someday may do a ride with him. Bah screw it, I'll just make sure he stays behind me, or downwind if we're not moving.

If there was a richer running in setting it would of been reset at the first service...I take you didn't get the first dealer service? Yamaha use their own nasty pump and not a nice Mikuni like everyone else - there is most likely a screw to remove on the carb body where the slide runs,as you open the throttle you will see a dimple on the slide...hold it there. With your other set of hands remove the pump cover and with your other set of eyes on the spare head check out the pump - the cable fits around a drum, this should have some markings that line up with other marks on the pump body or engine case...set them there. If you are mechanicly adept and have worked on these things before, then my comments will make sense,if they don't - get a manual.

i will try the smoking trick on waylander when i get a chance...
the bike has had its first service, it uses 500mls of oil per 200 km
on gas it does 20-23 ks /litre
is this normal?
