Who remembers that dude (think he used to live in the naki) who rode around with his cat on his bike.
They binned it fatally a few years back, but I always think of him and his cat riding along whenever someone digs out pics like this.

Max, Rastus AND Max's partner - sorry, can't remember her name. Poor Rastus was in a bag on the tank so didn't have any way of getting off. Totally senseless accident, sad loss of three lives. Can't imagine our cats wanting to go on the bike, they only like sitting on them when they're stationary!
I never met Max or Rastus but apparently that cat could be a little short tempered at times! He was way cute though!
Neat pic! A cat beats a mullet hands-down!

Thats them. I should have remembered Rastus's name cos I had a cat of the same name when I was a kid.

Max Corkill and his beloved black cat,
Rastus were well known to New Zealanders and people all around the world. For years they rode as a team with Rastus firmly ensconced on the front of Max's motorbike wearing his trademark helmet and red spotted scarf. At Christmas this was replaced with antlers endearing Rastus to the hearts of many.
Rastus, adopted by Max as a kitten at a swap meet, loyally followed him every day of his life - even onto his motorbike...
Six months prior to their deaths, Max found a new love to share his life, Gaynor Martin. They happily travelled New Zealand's roads together with Rastus until the sudden accident that took them all...
On 20th January 1998, Max, Rastus and Gaynor were tragically killed in a road accident doing what they loved - riding their motorbikes together.
Five years later and quietly behind the scenes friends and family have been working to keep their memories alive, selling memorabilia to support Max's favourite charity, the SPCA. This site marks the five year anniversary of their deaths. We welcome your comments, stories, memories and tributes for Max, Gaynor and Rastus. Contact maxandrastus@petsonthenet.co.nz
I took this from a tribute website to the two legends. its worth a look http://www.petsonthenet.co.nz/aboutmax&rastus.htm

Aye once I had the names I googled and found that and a truckload of other tribute websites.
The website seems a bit out of date, but I've emailed off to find out if they still sell the commerative badges. Will let folks know if they do.

I just found this about their final ride
But on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the duo’s long road trip came to a devastating end when another of Corkill’s bikes, a black BMW, collided head-on with a Mazda 929 sedan in the hamlet of Okoki, 25km north of New Plymouth. Corkill, 58, his pillion passenger and partner Gaynor Martin, 48, and Rastus, who was perched in his usual spot, were all killed instantly. Police have charged the 31-year-old driver of the car with two counts of manslaughter and other driving offences.

Classy, that guy riding that bike looks like a stockier version of Nathan Rarere.
Great picture.

I've been told that the only use cats are is to be hollowed out and made into Davy Crocket hats.
This Guy obviously missed a few steps.

No extra penalty for killing Rastus, obviously. Should have made the driver work at the SPCA for community service. I went and made a $20 donation to the SPCA in Levin today, poor old Rastus. (And his humans!)

I'd heard that Rastus could be a bit catty at times - pardon the pun! I heard he once scratched a kid, but considering I don't like kids, I didn't hold that against him!

I heard that one also. Maybe the kid asked for it, they do from time to time...

I followed a woman on a HD the other day with a little dog in a bag on her pack rack. Silly tart wouldn't let me merge heading north out of Huntly...Despite the fact that she came from behind my on my right while I was accelerating up the far too short on ramp at the north end of town, and despite the fat that I was indicating that I want to merge, she rode up beside me and stayed there....riding like that gives us a bad name....
