Dumb question to some people I know but on my current bike my foot doesn't rest under or on top of the foot brake pedal, it rests beside it. I know I can adjust it up or down, but my question is this:
What do you ride with? Your foot under or above the brake pedal?
On my last bike I rode with under the brake pedal, if I ride with it on top of the pedal will it not cause my brake light to come on and my brake to activate?

I ride with it beside and slightly underneath. But that's racing and it coul be different for road riding. I'm constantly using my rear brake 'cause it's a 2 stroke so no engine braking. Just ride doing whatever is most comfortable

Always ride with mine on top of the brake pedal and adjust them on a bike to suit.

Never want to rest your foot on the pedal, slows you down.

Where possible adjust your pedal so as your foot is over the pedal, but not touching it. This alows the quickest response in an emergency.

That said there is insufficient adjustment on some so you may have to go with what ever is most comfortable.

Dunno what the "correct" answer is, but my foot sits beside pedal.

I ride with the ball of my foot on the peg, requiring me to slide my foot forward to hit the brakes.

On a cruiser though there isn't so much more you can flex your foot to press the brake pedel.

Outlaw, it varies for me. If I'm in town with lots of traffic I usually just hold my foot above the brake lever so I can press it down ASAP if I need to. When in a open suburb with little traffic I generaly have the balls of my feet on the pegs rather than the curve of my foot. Doesn't wear your leg out as fast that way and still quik if you need it. Open road riding I usually have my foot beside the pedal, cause I use my front brake and engine braking more often tha the back. Unless going down hill at a fairly steep angle, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms for me.

Yeah I always have wondered what that lever is for, thought it might be to put it into reverse, never tried it though :blip:

I always have to lift my foot, but I tend to set my bikes up for standing, and the pedal needs to be higher then....I think.

When I first started riding (19 years ago), I used to kind of let it hover over the top, but it puts a lot of stress on the foot. On a ride when we stopped the bloke behind me said that when I was going down hill the brake light flickered on and off when I wasn't using it, since then it has always been to the side but under slightly.

Going downhill I tend to hover my foot over the brake pedel aswell as all four fingers resting on the front brake lever. But that's just cause I hate downhills. Hate it when engine braking is not effective. Love up hills though lol.

Ball of foot on peg, still quick to respond, open road touring stuff I might change it round for comfort sake.
