View Full Version : Newb question...

Hey guys. Bit of a newb question, but at least I prepared you for it! :calm:

Been browsing through the forums pretty regularly since I joined up and have managed to pick up a bit of the slang used in here. But one thing I'm not sure about is 'filtering'. I've got an inkling but could someone please explain to me what it means? Thanks :D

Maybe someone could write a thread, sticky it, pop it in this forum - common biker slang and what it means. Things like 'lane splitting' don't make sense to someone who hasn't been associated with bikes / bikers before, but also any kind of local slang that's used on KB i.e. names for some types of bikes.

Thanks!

the search tool can be a very good friend you know ;)

Filtering and lane splitting are the same thing.
Have a read thru the Survival forum (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=49) which also has a sticky (top post thread) on filtering/lane splitting (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=21150) since it's such a commonly asked question.

welcome too :niceone:

Bugjuice just summed it up nicely

There is something on biker slang in the FAQ. Not sure if it's still there but should still be.

Deviant Esq

The FAQ has two terms on it: Cage Driver and Tank Slapper. Don't worry, I've read those ;)

Thanks for that bugjuice. I probably should have used the search function or read through the Survival forum a bit more, but I forgot about either!

nah, that's ok, I guess Spank does need to update the FAQ bit..

If you get stuck, and you can't find what you're looking for, just send a quick PM to one of the more senior members (some who posts lots like these two) and ask them. That way, you save face, you get a direct answer, and you don't get char-grilled in a re-run-thread :niceone:
live un learn tho ;)

These two? You talking about me and Snipe? Cause you have more posts than me.

I always have information on things, wether its helpful or not is a different story. Seriously though, I don't mind offering help and advice to newbies, you have to learn.

Cheers guys!

Yeah I'll follow that advice in future. I don't do a great deal of posting myself, unless I know something about the topic or have something useful to add, so hopefully I won't be the subject of too many flames :msn-wink: Having said that, I don't mind being the butt of the occasional good natured prod from time to time as well - gotta have a laugh!

I'm not new to web forums, so I know how to behave. Mostly... >
I'm just new when it comes to motorbikes. But willing to learn - like Snipe says, gotta learn somehow :)

Don't ever be worried about getting flamed mate. You realise that since you are in CHCH you have to put up with dangerous, lol

Have had the name mentioned to me but just in passing. Should I be worried? :chase:

Or should I do a search and find some posts by him?

Yeah coz that means I'd have to set up the web cam again - and we all know what happened after that... well I don't think Sniper knew he was on - "live"... but I got good money out of it and Buggy seemed to enjoy it

Hehe ah good - gotta have entertainment!! There's been many a thread on KB I've read through in my as-of-yet short tenure here which I've had a good laugh at - some posts witty and inspiring enough to earn the poster some reputation points too :Punk:

Proper conversations? Absolutely, some points are really handy to know about. A good laugh during it? Even better :)
