Just been giving my Les Paul/Line 6 set-up a good thrash at home and really enjoyed myself. Been playing in an originals Metal band for the last 2 years and really haven't done much playing outside of band prac sessions especially not covers .
I grew up on GnR and Metallica, was a time I could play the whole of 'Appetite' and 'Justice for all'.
Lately been sitting down and spending a good solid evening learning simple but fun music like Stone Sour and Disturbed riffs. Past couple of days been learning some "Symphony X' songs like 'The Accolade', 'Pharoh' and 'The Eyes of Medusa'. Fuck Micheal Romeo can rip shit up.
So all you guitarists out there, what are you jamming on at the mo and what gear are you playing on?

Have to admit the old Metallica and G n R were all good, disturbed, slipknott, subtract, 8ft sativa, tool, megadeth...pretty much anything that grunts out the guitar...iron maiden, ozzy (go zakk), and heaps of others...just muck around really...
I use an old Hondo guitar on a daily basis, have a fender floyd rose series, vester stage series (hahaha), yamaha bass, washburn acoustic, Marshall 8080 amp from over a decade ago, still cranks it plenty for the lounge (and the neighbours)...boss me30 multi effects and a couple of other stand alone pedals thrash master and flange etc...

Ya lucky bugger's. I sold my axe about 4 years ago and have regretted it ever since.

Playing a Gibson Les Paul and a Tanglewood bowl back acoustic at the moment. Only got a shithouse little 15w Marshall practice amp though cos I sold my stack when I moved to NZ.
Tend to concentrate more on the drumming these days though.

I am just finishing off a "homebuilt special" made out of bits from about 3 different guitars. It's got all new modified wiring made by my brother and a 2nd hand Floyd Rose amongst other bits and pieces. I play through a Marshall Valvestate 40W amp that's a damn good 40W too. I play my cheapish Yamaha acoustic daily and am trying to develop my fingerstyle playing more. Easier said than done. I love playing my guitar but am not currently a member of a band. I've been playing the axe since I was 14 and have been in and out of bands of different types since then.

i decided learning to play the guitar was a good new years resolution for 2006. so i got myself a cheap acoustic metal string and went to a TAB site.
started with Nothing else matters, then stairway to heaven, working on Under the Bridge by the chillies...
love it. i suck... but i still love it!

I had a Squire once, although it had a 'bullet series' neck, whatever that was.
I have a mex fat strat now. I like humbuckers
Sounds good on the Marshal VS65R.
Settings, Clean:
Bass 4
Middle 6
Treble 7
Settings, Dirty:
Gain 6
Bass 4
Contour 7
Treble 7
Reverb 3
I have an Ibanez steel string acoustic as well. Toying with the idea of an upgrade, maybe a Martin or Yamaha, but I don't really play enough to justify it.

Got a dust gathering Fender Strat - 74 re-issue with humbugger me pick ups. Amp is a De Ville with 4 x 10". Great traditional fender sound - can't beat it. I'm really rusty nowadays as any spare time I have is spent riding.

Well, retired bassist :P (read: Sold all my gear). Last things I was jamming on though was Mudvayne. Particularly 'Not Falling' and 'World So Cold'.
Bass was an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray5. Rig was an Ampeg SVT 8x10", Peavey 1.5kw power amp and a Sansamp PSA-1 pre-amp.
It sounded kinda large. Gotta love it when the guitarists are complaining that the bass is too loud ;)
Blew a couple of lightbulbs in the old practice room from shaking the filaments to pieces :D

then stairway to heaven
This is going to turn into the "things I most hate to hear played in guitar shops thread". Too late.
I gave up trying to learn years ago (complete lack of musical talent) but I've got an old RAT distortion pedal knocking around somewhere if anyone's interested.

Yeah well, with a name like riffer, there's got to be some guitar stuff going on ...
I've been playing guitar for 33 years.
Guitars:
1974 Diplomat (Yamaha subsidiary, like Squier is to Fender) acoustic bought new
1980 Ibanez Blazer BL-300 (Strat-type, 3 single-coils with coil-tapping), rosewood body, maple neck) - bought new
1988 Gibson Les Paul Custom - Ivory White, with gold hardware) - bought new
2005 Garrison AG-700 acoustic (wicked sounding acoustic) - bought new
I run the electrics through a Boss GT-3 effects system, into a 1985 Marshall 1987 head and 1960A/B stack I've owned since new.
Musical styles are hard rock/metal. I'm primarily a rhythm player (hence riffer) but play a pretty good lead ...

Ibanez Acoutic 6 string
Westone electric
Don't ask me makes etc - they're good quality but I'm not that heavily into it.
My eldest daughter (3) plays a ukelele ("her guitar")
My son (6) plays his 1/2 size 6 string, chinese thing that can't actually be tuned...!
My youngest daughter is 4 weeks old - a bit early to play, but she's got some amasing neck strength for one so small...

I have a Squire strat (13 years old and still has original strings) needs a bit of attention - it came with a Rhino prcatise amp. An Epiphone Les Paul - needs new strings it came with a Marshall Chorus combo big bastard jobbie. A Tacoma electro acoustic which gets 95% of playing time these days. I'm a really crap guitarist can't sing and only know a few tunes mostly Is there anybody out there and my acoustic version of Little wing. But it's very relaxing just to jam away with jingles on the TV and invent my own melodies.

Go for the Megadeth!
Learn a few songs entirely, including the marty solos, then ease yourself into Marty Friedmans solo works.
Dragon's Kiss and Music For Speeding are must-haves.
Right now I'm knee-deep in Jason Becker. Still. The day that I can play Altitudes in its entirety is not too far off.
If you're enjoying Symphony X right now, see how you go on Smoke And Mirrors. Really trick sweep intro (how's your sweep technique?), and some really awesome lead-like riffs.

Sweep?
Are we talking Yngwie J Malmsteen type wankery here?

Yep, 'fraid so. Difference is Michael Romeo is a far more engaging guitarist than Malmstein ever was so he dosen't play your typical shredder guitar wank.
Been learning some Mudvayne songs myself lately. "Happy?" and "Forget to Remember" rock hard.
"Smoke and Mirrors" never did that much for me. I prefer the DWoT album as a whole. "Pharoh" and "The Eyes of Medusa" are my other two favourites along with the title track.

I have a Line6 Spider 212, with a red big-body Ibanez (same shape as the Gibson one the Beatles used I think), and a blue Squire Bullet (which I plan to finish modding to the blink182/Tom Delonge model Strat when I eventually get round to it)
I play a lot of different music, eg: KoRn, Smashing Pumpkins, Orgy, blink182, and a lot of others

I mostly play a Yamaha BB-G5A 5-string bass through a Carvin (Red Eye) 600W amp. Combo works OK for me. Also have an Ovation Ultra 6string guitar - nice tone but don't play it much since starting on the bass some 5+ years ago.
Does anyone have a fretless bass colecting dust? Would like to give one a go.

How on earth do you attach 6 strings to a baby that young! That's just inhumane, and I dont care how strong the neck is.

Nah - a set of 9-42 Ernie Balls would hardly stretch her out of alignment.
When they get bigger you go to the 11-56's that's when they start to squeal ...
