I jumped on the bike yesterday to ride to work... was a tad late, so was motoring quickly to get into the CBD (coming from the shore, birkenhead)

followed some dude on a pretty quick bike over the bridge, with some other guy on a what looked like a 150 following us...

however - I get to work and park up, turn around to get my rack pack... and it isn't there.

FFS.

at some stage on my way from birkenhead to arriving at work in the city, I've lost my bag off the back of my bike. called the cops, highway patrol etc but haven't heard anything yet

turned around and shot back over the bridge, and retraced my steps, but to no avail...

gutted. had my wet weather pants in there, a dress shirt, cuff links, my $500 sunglasses, kickboxing wraps and other bits and pieces... what a moron. in my haste to get going I didn't fasten the clasps that hold the pack to the rack. only had the bag for a couple of weeks too...

Did you have anything that would indentify yourself in the pack? Probably happended earlier in your ride before you got on the motorway.

Wasn't me riding with you on a bright yellow VTR1000?

I've always wondered who the other guys are on the motorway heading into town from the shore. I come from Glenfield.

See quite a few bikes on the way in.

it's more likely the air flow that picks it up - mine fell off the back of the tl on a straight bit of road - i also didn't realise it til i got to work (20 kms away!) went back and it was still there. yoghurt through everything though. and a tube of loctite 406 had spilled inside another bag.....

Bugger mate, hope you get it back! Got to hate doing things like that... little no-brainers that afterwards make you wanna kick yourself! Contents insurance, personal items? *Shrug* worth a call, doesn't affect any no claims discount...

Bugger! that's a crappy way to have to start the day :(

I've always been a fan of top boxes... they're either locked on or they are off and they are totally waterproof.

Maybe consider one rather than another rack pack??

Hope you get your stuff back.

I had a backpack fall off which was just bungied to my pack rack on sh32 out the back of lake taupo. Went 15k's before I realised it was gone. Turned round and someone flashed me so I stopped and they said they'd seen it in the middle of the road and put it on top of a letterbox 10k's back.

I've started zip tieing the backpack on to my pack rack bag now.

Hope yours turns up dude.

Yeah, I've had my bag come off once on those (the ones at the bottom, not the new ones). Funny thing is, I've forgotten to do up the clips a few times and NOT had it come off. I think it depends on the bag, as some of the ones I've had are tight on the rack, and others (like the Bathurst, which is what came off) slip off easily.
I hope you find it. With luck, someone that lives near by has picked it up. Perhaps you could advertise in the local paper, or do a letterbx drop up and down the street.

yeah well I tried that... sent a letter to the northshore times...

got the insurance sorted on it though, and had the claim approved for my glasses (so I went and bought some that afternoon to which I'll be re-imbursed at some stage)

hey man im at central, ill check if anyone hands anything in...considering people these days though a lot of people just think its fair game to keep stuff they find, which is illegal technically...but i guess they think whose ever going to find out?

sorry to hear man, bummer :(

It's a shame people think like that.

Maybe if it happened to them they would think twice about doing it to somebody else.

But then again, some people are just dicks and never change.
