Is anyone up north keen for a ride this Thursday? I'll be leaving Kerikeri some time in the morning, going to wherever and back. Got no idea where the fun roads are north of Keri but I'd like to find out. Who's up for a blast?!

Between Whangarei and Auckland you'll want to go down Paparoa Rd, then there's a little bit of SH1 to Wellsford. From Wellsford, you have to take SH16. If you take SH1 instead, you'll be forever mocked.

You know where wises maps live

The weather is absolute crap right now.

Roads.. Some people like riding from kerikeri through to Paihia, then onto kawakawa and back up again.

Kerikeri, and up north through to kaitaia is apparently a nice ride, but don't ride on your own. You tend to be treated like shit on the road.

Other than that all I can suggest is go from kerikeri through to kaikohe then on to mangakahia or wtf ever road it is.. *will check* and back across to Whangarei, then north again.

I don't know myself cause I don't ride, but just roads that I know my old lady, dad, and their friends used to ride on.

*kittie*

Follow this road (think it's call Wiroa Rd) through to SH1. Turn left back towards Whangarei on SH1 then turn right at the first sign to Kaikohe (You'll see Lake Omapere on your right as you go down this road). At the end of this road turn right into Kaikohe. Go pass the Caltex in Kaikohe and then take the first left past it. This IS MANGAKAHIA RD (I should know, I live down this rd). Still a few Road works on this road (see Mangakahia Rd Update (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=438550&postcount=196) , not much change but I must update it). At the end of this road cross SH12 to the road oppsite (but a little left of) your exit from Mangakahia Rd. This is Otaika Valley Rd. At the end of this road turn right on to Loop Rd (doesn't really matter, cause it is a "loop", both ends conect to SH1). At the end of Loop Rd is SH1. Left goes to Whangarei, and Right heads to Auckland.

Yes its Wiroa Road. Heads out past the Bay of Islands Airport. I know cause I live near this area ;)

Oh and look out for cars on Mangakahia, apparently people like to drive on the wrong side of the road. Urgh..

Oh and look out for cars on Mangakahia, apparently people like to drive on the wrong side of the road. Urgh..So do some of the Bikers:whistle: You have to to get around some of those corners (excuse). It's the Logging Trucks and Milk Tankers you really have to watch. It's not a very wide road, hence all the on going Roadworks to widen it.
Honestly, they are not that bad.

I heard its bad lolYep they all drive their "Cages" as bad as I drive the Ute. When you've seen me leaning hard out in it as I go around the corners (more likely to get my knee down in it than on "Roxanne"), you just know I was born here:nya: LOL.

The weather looks pretty mean today. Might head out to Opononi if it holds up. I gotta find somewhere to pick up a xmas tree here first though! Where are all the bikers in Kerikeri.. argh! Saw one of my old mates here who was riding a tdm250 the other day. Gonna have to talk him into letting me take it for a cane.

The road out to Opito bay is pretty decent. Lots of nice sweeping corners and not much gravel. Too bad it's so short :(

Xmas tree.. Umm... Go to the forestry.. Take a chain saw... Climb up it and chop just the top of the tree off.. Or you could make things easier and just chop down the whole damn thing down.. Oh and don't get caught........

Then again......... its only people outside of kerikeri who do that.. :pinch:

How long are you in kerikeri for? I might be able to find someone to go riding with you if you want. Know 1 young guy and his Mrs who ride. Anyone else I know only ride harleys though.

I'm up till the 26th, but back in jan for a couple of weeks. Thurs and fri will be my riding days if everything goes to plan. Gotta work up in kaitaia and kaikohe tomorrow so I'll try and find some fun roads on the way there and back.

Went for a blat out to opononi today. Not a bad road but the surface was pretty shabby in places. Had a bit of a moment with melted tar while pushing it reasonably hard around a corner up a hill somewhere round there, but nothing too major. Had a couple of cops follow me for a bit between kaikohe and keri but I didn't give em a reason to pull me over. I'm sure they were wondering where I went when I disappeared out of their line of sight and caned it for a bit. heh heh.

MrMelon: If you want one, there's a free one here for you in Parakao on Mangakahia Rd. Have Pm'ed you my Ph no, so you know what it is;)
