That's the drug taking, sexed crazed, Christian rock festival? No, unfortunately - I could get arrested for being too old....

I'm a Christian but hardly go to church (Up to 10 times a year sort of thing) and I can't stand people that preach and force their beliefs upon other people. That is not what it is about.

Parachute, surprisingly is not all that Christian. Yes, you can go to seminars or certain stages etc where people 'preach the word' but you don't have to. You can keep totally away from those parts and still have a great time. For me, Parachute is not about God or Christianity. It is about one hell of a good weekend filled with music, mates and good times.

Hah - funny! Why did you think that? Was I running around enthusiastically making people play games, or having big deep and meaningful chats with people about why they weren't out on the track or something? That's cool though.

Eman - we use Piggy Packers and they're a pretty good deal for vans. Don't know if they have a Rotorua branch or not though.

I was thinking of whipping up on the bike (was there last year) but it is a bit of a mission from Chch just for 4 days. Also, Delirious are a pretty cool band, but I didn't see much of the others that swung it. So at this stage I am no-go but could change my mind later if it is realy tedious at work.

It is a great event, no matter what your persuasion. Plenty of "take it or leave it" and "get involved or not" as you choose. Most people who were there seemed quite normal - don't think I saw one who was clutching a bible with a vacant stare skyward. Definitely worth staying a coupla days if you can rather than just bouncing in and out for a day. Last year there were around 25,000 there so it is hard to find someone even when you know what they look like.

Had thought about takin the kids through, went to the Shelterbelts at Te Puke (the pre curser to Parachute) when I was a teenager. They used to bring in a big name band from over seas as a headline act. saw Rez, Whitcross, Darrell Mansfield - whoa, has anyone else just lost 20 years??

Working Saturday and Sunday night shifts pretty well rules it out though.

Have fun you guys.

Gotta say that I love Wgtn's wind. Had a great time though - the music, shops, worship times (with the bands) and just the general shinanigans.

Quasi - sorry I didn't get in contact mate - I had 31 others in tow so popping over would've been a mission and a half, and I don't have a car licence so I couldn't go into Hamilton for the afternoon. Having a chat under some decent shade with a cold drink would've been really good though! Next time eh.

My daughter went along to this with a bunch of her friends (notice how I did not arrange for her to meet any of YOU GUYS) :chase:

Some of you might have picked up already that religion is not my thing, but she had a really fantastic time - so each to their own I guess. It sounded like a great event.

Well I had a great time with a little more than 3 hours of sleep. 4.30-7.00am 1st night, 3-7.00am 2nd night and an all nighter on the third. Was great to meet up with a few KB'ers and put names to faces.

Did the usual crazy stuff - carved a water melon and chucked it on my head, met randoms and made new friends whom I'll never meet/talk to again and on the last night with the allnighter: we sang this song Little White Pony from midnight-6am. So any of you who were there who are wanting to bash any of them - bash me 'cause I kept it going for the last 2 hours!!!

Did any of you guys go to the Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll seminar? I saw the sex and drugs part which was really good. The singer from Day Of Fire talked about his drug experiences. He's done just about everything out there and been to jail and had mates die from drugs and stuff. He's clean now and has found God but he had an interesting take on things. He said that he has been touched by God and he believes fully in God but doesn't believe in any "man-made faith" as such. He doesn't want to be told how to live his life by a book. It was quite scary really because a lot of what he said I agreed with. He's been out in the world and done all the stuff and he knows about it even though he is only quite young. It was cool.

The mosh pits were great this year. Everyone watches out for you and I fell over a few times and got helped up and asked if I was allright. One time I wasn't -I had cramp and couldn't stand up- so this random took me out to the stands and sat me down and said to me "I don't wanna miss this so I'll wait a couple of minutes or so and then go back." I got myself to the hospital and they told me to eat more salt and take a rest for a while.

All in all I had a great time, met a whole lot of new people, most of which I'll forget but one I won't:hug:, moshed a lot, yelled/roared/screamed a lot, lost my voice and hopefully I'll go back next year.

Well a lot of people go for the Religion but I don't. If it weren't a Christian festival then I'd still go. I have no problem with the Religious part of things but it ain't my thing. I believe in God but I don't place myself in any "man-made faith". I have been brought up a Catholic, have been to a lot of Baptist things, hang out with Presbyterians(sp?) and went to 'chute this year with Anglicans.

We found one of those big plastic things they have for barriers at concerts, roadworks and stuff like that and 2 people held it, 1 person got on it and they played rodeo.

Eventually that got boring so we were using it as a drum. The security got annoyed and took it away, so we found some wheelie bins and bottles and they took the wheelie bins away. So then we started drumming on the ground with our hands and other poeple filled up the water bottles and squirted us all(after 4 hours you get pretty hot) and then the security took our bottles off us...So we found other bottles and another tap close by because the security were blocking the one we were using.

I don't see why they took the bottles off of us because we could have been drinking them. I asked for the empty bottles back and he wouldn't give them to me. I think they were trying to hint us to shut up but it didn't work. We weren't breaking any rules, although people were probably getting REALLY annoyed.

They finally moved us to the village for the last 40 minutes. Then we had a countdown from ten, I hugged the girl next to me who was helping and being an absolute legend and on one...I'll stop here 'cause parents won't like it:love:

Anyways...It was bloody brilliant. And hopefully it'll happen next year too!! Maybe 8 hours:done:

Fair enough - you're entitled to your opinions. But there's a fundamental difference between targeting the 'cults and religions' and the actual people involved. Most people can disagree with certain groups and what they stand for while also maintaining some level of respect and basic social skills for the individual people.

Cults/Religion are the people involved without one the other would not exist.
The clearest analogy I can give that you may understand is the following:
Imagine if every time you came on your favourite biker site images of animal/human sex where displayed?......I have no respect for mindless fairy tales that has done more to hold back humanity, killed more over the last 2 thousand years than every other dispute put together. This is a biker site Velox not sunday school, leave the dribble about God to your favourite worship site.

The biker comunity has a diverse demographic. I think its great that so many different poeple are brought to gether by a common interest, Motorcycles.

As to be a Christian you have to make a conscious decision, I would have thought "Mindless Christian" to be a contradiction of terms.

That's strange. Because all the Christians I knew, before I lost what little interest I had, were born into it. Their only conscious decision was to never have anything to do with it again

Some cool photos in there BC. hXc thought anberlyn rocked. The drum techy on Mainstage always comes to MSTRS to get his bass drum signwritten for Parachute. He turned up here yesterday with assorted stuff for hXc, including a tom skin that Anberlyn's drummer had bled all over! Apparently he was playing so hard he thumped his knuckles on the rim and split them open, but in the true spirit of musicians the world over, continued playing. The band all signed the skin for hXc.

Re the 'killing in the name of' argument

In a world of no internet and one Bible per thousand (if that), it was priests & bishops who mis-lead/tricked a shed load of people into them unHoly Crusades et al... Sux to be those same priests & bishops/leaders when they meet their Maker!

If you went for a crap on Queen St, saying "i'm doing this in the name of jon", that in no way infers i agree/condone/approve of your action.

Same thing still happens now; governments mis-leading sheep-like nations...people parroting what they've heard/what sounds good.
