Maybe you guys already seen this - I'm not trying to start the ol car VS bike thing - but this guys pretty good (it shoulda been up against Crecsents Kagayama Express Gixxer 1000) but hey didn't do bad for a road bike.

cool video ,except for it pausing itself all the time ( & on cable to) .
I was quite surprised the race car was so quick,as it didnt look like she kept it that tidy, the biker had to work a lot harder for his time.

Damn...

amazing that the Duke 999 is only .15 of a second slower though.

Mooch
20th December 2005, 23:50
Yep ,and the 999 was last years lower HP model. Mind you , looks like a very tight track , maybe a 600 would go better ?

SimJen
21st December 2005, 07:04
Yep a larger less twisty track would see the bike beat the car....but not by much. Its already been talked about extensively on here though.

I like the way shes casually chatting to the camera - like shes on her way down to Food Town to pick up the groceries. Looks like the car was a bit twitchy
.
I think it was unfair - at the end they talked about warming up the tires and brakes on the car - sounds like it had race pads and tyres. Could see that the bike had STD road tyres (mind you bike tyres need warming too).

Wish I had half the talent that guys got. Stoppy at the end nearly went wrong tho'.

And the bullshit bit about the rider saying he could've got a faster time if he'd set the suspension up properly, and them saying, "No no no! That's not allowed - it has to be stock standard, the way it came out of the showroom!". WTF?!? They obviously know nothing about bikes, and that adjusting the suspension IS still keeping it standard.

Better than previous showings of TG airing on 1/BBC at a rather late / early 3.30am ish depending on whether or not it was DST. Still, pretty well 80% of TG's previous presenters are now doing 5th gear (could've come up with a more imaginative name though, surely...), which makes for a good show right from the start.

Very impressive riding on the GSXR... and, hate to say it, but I'm sure that car could manage an extra few 10ths with a better driver around than V B-H. Wasn't the smoothest driving performance I've seen.

They were both showboating a bit, not being as smooth as they normally would to make it look more impressive for the camera. Would like to have seen the entire lap of both though. I'm sure they would've been far smoother and controlled on the fast laps instead of yahoo'ing like they were.

They should have had Tiff driving the car, hes a lot faster than V-B-H.
I have the whole of that series....if anyone wants either Top Gear or Fifth Gear then go to: http://www.finalgear.com/downloads/ have to use a torrent client to download....

I really like the way he drifts into the corner. I'd really like to learn that :)

that car had slicks on.... hence its darting from side to side like that.

Put the bike on track day tyres, set it up for the rider and I bet it'll be closer.

Is doing big wheelstands out of corners the fastest way? Seems he had to slow a bit to get the front back on the deck

flash
21st December 2005, 15:12
thats not his real lap, there just clipps of him showing off. none of the stuff shown is the real lap....just about

21st December 2005, 15:33
dam that was awesome! Agreed that he could of done it faster but so could of the car. An unfair "race" due to all the extra's the car had even thought it is road registered etc.Sweet tho

That's what I thought, show me a bike that comes from the factory that doesn't need any tweaking to the local conditions. Stopped watching when they said that.:tugger:
