WANTED/NEEDED!

My wife & I do alot of Youth work up here in Rotovegas; we often end up carting youth around in hired/borrowed vehicles.

So, we've decided to be rid of our 86 Corona, and look for a 10 seater van.

We've narrowed it down to the models you see above; I thought I'd check with you KB'rs before hitting the pavement good n' proper!

If you have one, know of one, or got suggestions...pls get in touch!!

Thanks loads!

Give Motu a pm, he's a grumpy old hermit, but he owns a garage and knows his stuff, often hands out good sensible advice about vans and such like.

Nothing wrong with the Hi Ace,petrol or diesel, but the diesel has higher upkeep and if it goes bang can be crippling on the bank account.Careful as a 10 seater could have spent time as a Taxi, nothing really wrong with that, but have a good look at it...not uncommon to see them well into the 400,000km area.Make sure the seats are all legal, they change seatbelt regs on a yearly basis, but if you have a fully complying set up now it's less time and money if they shift the goalposts yet again.Check for rust around front pillars, roof seam and rear door area.Good luck.

thanking you muchly!
will check on the seatbelt regs - didn't realise they were such an issue...then again, we're talking beaurocracy here, innit?!

Got me a 2002 3.0 ltr Diesel Hiace with 125,000ks in March, done 40,000 ks since then and no problems. The P.O.S 2002 Ford Transhit that I did 200,000 odd Ks from new, before that nearly sent me broke. Great vehicle (if all your customers came to you !)But you got to be a bank robber or drug dealer to keep it on the road. And Pacific Ford up here would have to be the most incompetent bunch of tossers I have ever had the misfortunate to pay money too for “service”. But that’s another story...

Buy a Hiace!!!

Yeah cars are impractical. How many dirt or race bikes can you fit in a car? (& still remove them in working order?).

Best mod for a HiAce: The door handle hole on the armrest is right where your elbow lives.

Cut a piece of stiff foam & jam/ glue it in the hole. Can’t close door now? OK then take the hole inner out (1 screw, but who glued this foam in here?) & tie a bit of webbing (like a camera dangle cord) onto a mount on the inside & put the inner back in with this hanging out, tie a couple of knots in the end. Just reach for the cord to close the door. Even easier than before & comfort ahhh. . .

& Frosty, I'd be buying some stickers to cover that model name up. Who's going to buy a homo van?

Cheers K & F5...
sounds like some worthy DIYing will be in order - or i could just wear my bike jacket with elbow protection... which would also help should a 'road rage' scenario eventuate.

still no van,but have since made some contacts with importers in Hamilton, thru' a friend over there. looking good at this stage...

Mate of mine works at DCR in L Hutt, and managed to get us a deal on a '96 Hiace they were selling.

It's a 96 Hiace, petrol, 11 seater, manual and NOT white! Exactly what we were after, and the price was too good to turn down!

We need to get down to Palmy this Thursday, so if anyone's heading down, please fit us in!!

Looks like I'll have to get the 'Hiace elbow situation' sorted after all...
