Hey all - I was wondering what they mean by saying Canadian spec or Aussie spec machines.
What makes for instance an American spec GSXR different to the one we would get here?

different fuel (emissions) rider sizes (suspension settings) road surfaces (tyres).
The biggest difference I know of is when they are sold to the country of origin, they sell themselves the crap cars & bikes (customers will buy for patriotisim) an send the best overseas, it stands to reason that a fussy country would be exported the best bikes.

When I was working in meatworks the best went to Saudi Arabia, then everywhere else, if it fell on the floor it goes to the domestic market (I shit you not!)

Usually emmision specs. California, Japan, Germany etc have strict standards, so are tuned differently, as well as horse power limits. I don't know the exact details about each bike as it differs, but as an example, my RGV isJap restricted to 45hp and 180kmh, where as the NZ version might get 55hp(?) and 220kmh. (On the speedo anyway). The German equivalent has emission restrictions. All three have different SAPC controller boxes.

Got any bike in mind?

Also different countries have different rules for lights. I think in U.S. headlight has to be always on. The most noticeable difference though will probably be the speedo - mph or kph.

as far as the gsxr's go... the only difference is the californian spec model has the addition of a catalytic converter in the can, the canadian are the same as the aussie spec which are the ones we get here & I think the same as the europen also(but i could be wrong there, not sure on the japan model except that they have a pilot light in the headlight & castellated nut & pin on the rear axle(for some earlier models).

Parts of the US have very strict emission control. Some manufacturers make one model for California (which is the strictest) and a different spec of that model for the other states. Others knock out one model to the CA specs to make it easy. I know the high spec Ducatis (998s 998r etc) in the US had less power but to make up for it had extra carbon bits which weren't given to the countries with the full-power motors.
