Came across this from Agor.

Apparently what is happening is that although lane filtering has been
illegal for several years the Road Rules Maintenance Committee is
proposing changes to the wording which will categorically spell it out.
The Motorcycle Council has taken this opportunity to come
up with a counter proposal which legalises lane filtering in traffic
moving less than 15kph. The RRMC is open to submissions from the
public and then they will vote.
The ACT rep on the committee is Steve Crofts. He is at

Re the petition: That is very old news, like 6 years old. Look at the deadline
date on the petition. It is illegal to filter and rule 151 says so. It has
been from the very first draft of the Australian Road Rules. >

Just not to sure if this pettition is still going as there seems to be some doubt as to its age but I sent my name to be included on the basis that if the Aussies do succeed then there may be some flow on over here.
