I had my bike out on Puke today and at the end of the day my speedo had stopped working. Initially I thought the cable had broken but it seems to be intact and the speedo seems to work too (needle moves slightly when I twirl cable in my fingers) so I guess that leaves the drive bit on the front wheel. I havn't had time to pull anything apart yet. Is this a common problem can I fix it or do I need to replace the whole unit. If it needs replacing does it need to be the zxr750h1 or will other Kawasaki ones work (250,400 etc).

hey Slopster,
its probably the stupid wee pickup plate in the drive unit on the axle, its just a pressed plate with 2 locator tabs that drive the whole unit, you may have damaged these.
should be a fairly simple fix if so :niceone:

Yeah twr is right the pickup plate is the fault. Just waiting for the wreckers to open - damn public holidays!

Couldn't you make one up yourself?

you'd really need a piece of 30mm light walled tube & roughly 25mm long to make one yourself, the external tabs have to slot into the hub & the cut-aways at the other end line up with the pick-ups of the speedo drive. getting the measurements close enough to line up properly could be a bit of a mission but its possible.
