Okay guys,

I have this stupid idea on how to start the New Year with an absolutely EPIC ride, and I need to know if anyone else would be keen.

Basically the idea would be to start at some ungodly hour (5:30am) on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th and head south from Auckland through secondary roads down to Whangamata to Gisborne, to Napier, across to Taihape, through National Park, cut back to western side of Lake Taupo and up the middle to Kihikihi, then on to 22 and home. Total kms would top 1000, so your arse might get a little tender :crybaby:

The question is, is there anyone out there crazy enough to join me?

P.S. Jim, you could bring your new bike to Taihape for a showing - what do you say?

If I remember correctly the Napier - Taihape section is unsealed. you up for that?

Sounds like a good way to see the New Year in shame I can't join you.

I'd love to, but I'm on call dammit.

Nice idea though. Most of the Auckland pansies would struggle with 100kms in one day mate. It's beyond the range of their normal 30km/hr commute you see.

Good luck getting a crowd together.

1k km in a day is easially done, however, theride you have planned is huge for a vt250! I wouldnt leave with anyone that has anything wrong with their bike either, long way from home for brakedowns! The napier/taihape rd does have some 30-50km of gravel and is a slow trip. good luck and have fun!

Napier - Taihape Rd has 39 kms of unsealed road in the middle-can be very hard on steering dampers as MSTRS found out- but a great ride, lots of twisties with fantastic scenery! Enjoy -but you can count me out!

I did 500km on my Hyobag the other day and I was fine/comfortable. Did 400 two days after that on my own and went a little too long till the first break which was a bit of a mistake...have breaks often-ish. At least get off the bike for 5mins.

Slight adjustment required then....

Skip Taihape, just turn right at Napier and head up to Taupo, then on to Turangi and follow the south side of lake taupo then up the middle from there. Should cut a few kms plus time for not going on gravel.

Any takers yet?

Only riders with reliable bikes and a few longish rides need apply. No newbies, sorry. We'd make stops every 100-200kms with lunch in Wairoa.

Give us some credit. Most of us can make 125km before bitching about sore backs and wrists and having to turn around, go home and sip some lattes in the spa pool.
I'd be more worried about spying the odd cloud or two one such a long trip, especially since I don't have any wet weather gear as I don't ride unless it's clear blue and 18+ all the way.
Also, I don't think I can run 30km/h between my bedroom and my office. If I recall correctly, YOU once posted in the "do you communte" thread you were going to get me a plastic trike for my trip as I felt left out not being able to commute down the hallway on my gsx-r...

Oh well thats me outta it, might go stunt it up on the streets instead, should be pretty quiet traffic wise.

Swing by the naki and I'm sure you'll get some tagger-a-longers. If its just on sealed roads I'll bring the CBR.:wavey:
If your not coming this way have a good one:thud:

I'm not available on the 1st or 4th Krayy, but could well be a starter for the 2nd or 3rd.

Now, off to collect my new ride, which incidentally is several 100kms away! :wari:

Bugger, I'm going to have to bow out of this one.
Did about 500ks yesterday and my new leathers are putting too much pressure on my naked knee!
Gunna have to get it sorted caus I'm in a bit of pain after what was a series of short rides with longish breaks, 1000ks and I wont be able to walk!
Maybe next time?
But it means now I can be bad! :devil2:
