Small update. Change of plan.
Sold the SV for various reasons. Have house on market and wife says I can pretty much do what I want (bike wise that is) when house sells. What should I do?
Limit is about $20G for the actual purchases.
Buy a reasonable road bike and a reasonable race bike?
Buy just a race bike and take the bus Mon - Fri?
Buy just a nice road bike and be satisfied with a few track days a year on it?

what about both a reasonable road bike and a cheap bucket

Surely you would want a road bike!? 1st or 3rd option sounds good to me.

Ah this was put on the KB’ers who race thread originally and was moved (not by me).
Another possible option is by a '05 600 model and have race gear and road gear and do both with it...

Define reasonable. Personally I'd go with Ivan's idea FWIW.

Cheers Wari.
Was meant as an update but happy to make it a discussion.
Not interested in bucket racing.
Reasonable road bike I would personally define as about $10G late model sports bike of 600cc up.
Reasonable race bike I would personally define as, is FIII mid field runner.

I'd go for a near new or even brand new K5 GSXR600, think you'd get something around $12K-$13K, and then a set of race fairings, pipe etc and use as a road bike, race/track day bike. Have fun!!

Hi Cleve. How come you sold the SV. That would have made an excellent road and or race bike. I presume it was a 650.
For $20K you could add a pipe, PCIII, shock, fork springs and spare wheels and have a competitive FIII bike that can be used on the road. The 600 route involves more expense and is also a much more competitive class to race in (as I've found out).
If you then don't like it, I would happily take the bike off your hands as a favour. :blip:
Nice to have such a quandry.

I don't know sh*t so I'm not gonna comment!

(I reckon a K5 GSXR600 sounds a good idea. Stable base to build from)

Cheers. Yes the K5 600 is top in my lists. 05 R6 as well can be had for a good price and although not as sexy as the other 600's is about as good.
As for the SV, yes I loved it, but after 3 years as my road bike, weekend tool, track day toy I was getting a wee bit bored... and felt like a change.

OK. Am very close to choosing either a 05 R6 (new) or GSXR6 (near new).
Will update when I get there.
Any last minute ideas on race fairings, pipes, set up etc
Cheers

Have bought a new 2005 R6. TSS in Welly had a good deal so I fly down on Sunday and rid back to Auckland on Monday.
Yeehaa.... see you guys at track days and some race meets.
