Left Warkworth at 9am today, mate came down from Whangarei, thought we might see some of the Coro Loop guys along the way, got to the Kopu and got in a couple of cold ones met up with a guy from Tauranga on a R1, so chated with him, then we heard those awful sounds, screeching tyres then metal on metal, we got and ran to see WTF? a 6mt camper bus in the drivers side door of a car that was exiting the Mobil heading towards Paeroa, bus was heading same way, tyre marks from the bus were 20mts long approx. The old chap driving the car didnt look to good, the two young kids in the back got out but were uncontrollable to say the least, older lady passenger was alive, but the driver (kids poppa) was in bad shape, he took the impact, we didnt venture to any further, we back to the pub and the nice R1 man got me a rum, my good lady was down there in the Holden and left after us, the old chap was still in the car sometime after even tho' the jaws were used to get access to him, guess he didnt make it.

We got there as the road was being cleaned up, the cops were redirecting traffic. Sad to hear someone died. The skid marks looked like the bus/camper must've been going at a decent speed.

Sad to hear about the camper/car ... I was driving my cage through there this afternoon - saw Zapf and some of the others...

There was some Fucking nutty driving going on - look out for white Mitzi licence plate AMN5234 ... Guy overtook me (at 120) going around a blind right hand, then sat on someone (a KB-er I think) for a good 5 K... The bike was a maroon-ish CBR 250 or similar I think (I'm still not good at the bike Identifying thing - sorry if it was an R1 or something  )

yea... some driving out there.... there was this wannabe Integra Type R that tried to keep up with us loop boys... and in the act of trying almost took out another cage I hear...

and yes... the major roads were busy.

are you saying the guy driving the car did not see a 6 meter camper bus and pulled out , if so hed be a prime candidate for pulling out on a bike , cept in that case the biker would die. if he died cause he was at fault and pulled out then fuckem ,if not then
i have sympathy

What?
28th December 2005, 05:21
Now look here, WINJA, I am getting sick of having to agree with you!
I reckon there'e a lot of car drivers, particularly older ones, who, at intersections, are looking for other cars - so they do not see bikes, trucks, busses, trains or crash-landing space shuttles. I've seen 3 identical fatals at Mangatarata (where SH27 meets SH2, west of Ngatea); driver heading for Auck has stopped, looked up and down the road, then pulled out in front of a B-train.

What?

70K limit there, is it not? If not, it is a recent change (albeit sensible at this time of year). And the road is as slippery as, so 20m skids from a camper doesn't sound too untoward.

I did the Coro loop yesterday and saw the aftermath of the crash at the gas station. The bus looked in surprisingly good shape but the car looked like a rissole.

Back in New Plymouth now, not having had too many adventures.

Think I'll go and look at my new Ohlins shock which I received this morning. Can't decide whether to put on the bike or hang it on the wall... :-)

Must be silly season or something. Was heading home up our road, a car sittng at the end of the side road waiting for me to go past or so I thought. It's an 80kmh area, she's stickin out a bit so I button of to 70kmh just in case. Have the missus in the car. She looks right at us, I go to put my foot down again and she pulls out. ABS, bloody brilliant and we stop dead centimetres from her door. Never stopped, looked blankly at us and kept going as I wound down the window and yelled out you "stupid shit'

Man, was I angry. My wife says' "whats her problem, she was looking me right in the eye," and the worst part was, she was doing exactly that. Maybe she really was blind then??
