Well after the Cemetery cct racing me & the lovely wiff went to the JB concert. Icon Aussie rocker, but prone to sounding like John Farnham in years past. I was hoping that bearing in mind the crowd he'd know what’s good for him & play predominantly Chisel stuff.

But no, he had to play a bunch of newer stuff, putting out a new album etc.

I liked Swingshift at the time (1st solo record as they were black & round in those days) but those songs have aged a bit (ironically the earlier Chisel stuff hasn’t).
Seems like when he left Chisel he lost some writing input from Ian Moss & now all his songs are so damn repetitive & I don’t care but you can’t save a boring song with interjections of “YEAH/WHOO” every ten seconds. Oh yeah & Tina Turner covers? Sheesh! Then "I am the lineman of the county". Bec goes "You've got to be kidding!"

He eventually played Flame Trees but it was like it was being sung with none of the original timing & while performers probably like to change things for variety -really that was the brilliance & it was stripped out.

We left early & as leaving the gates paused as he started to do Kai Shan. Errr, nah he was murdering that as well, rather remember it from the album. I’ve heard him in concert before & he was good, but sadly that was oh so many years ago.

Where’s that Chisel/Barking Spiders record hiding in the storage boxes? :sherlock:

Oh & to make it worse we camped at the Bignel st camp grounds & were woken at well past 1 by some Bigmouth ‘Expert on everything’ treating the place like it was a rally not a family campground & talking in a voice that could be heard above all others “Mate. I’ll tell you honestly blah blah:
We left & went back to wgtn as the prick was in full bull-babble.:argh:

If he’s reading: Mate. I’ll tell you honestly; You’re a current. If you still have a bike I bet you can’t ride. & GB400s? please. Tosser.

Pretty shit bout JB, i wanted to go, but dont feel so bad bout missing it now.
And can i please put in a word of defence in for the gb400, i own one and findit more fun than bigger bikes on tight winding country roads. For the record, it was not me at your camp grounds, that guy sounds like a tosser

Mrs V and her sister were going to go to his Central Otago concert after New Year, but decided not to go a couple of days ago. They can be assured now that they're not missing much. Cheers.

I saw him at Bindoon (western Australia) somewhere in the mid '80s. Not very impressive. Previous no-name bands put their hearts into it but not him. I 'seem' to recall he got booed a bit. But that could just be the drugs.

I seen him at Coroglen on Friday night, having never seen him before I thought he was pretty good...but not enough Chisel tho.
Working class man and Flame Trees went off tho...awesome crowd, even hooked up with some blonde that I dont remember her name :D
I couldnt imagine 2500 people at Coroglen pub but I can now....Fucking good night overall except I was late getting away and had to take the Tapu/Coroglen road (in car obviously) and dodging 4WD's on that goat track....
Oh and BIG ups to the guy that his Mrs bent over the tailgate on his Hilux just off the road in broad daylight(traffic was very light), obviously he couldnt wait til he got home :D
