All i can say was---frigging fantastic.
This is bike racing as it should be
A good days racing had by one and all.
I got to try out my wets -thanks to AJTurbo who swapped the rimms quick smart for me
Results wise I diddnt do too well with a couple of 6ths and an 8th place in F3 and I think a couple of thirds in Pre89 --that said I had a frigging ball
Pity the weather did the same thing at around 3.30 which closed the track for the same reason as on the KB track day--mud on the track

Ohh and guys n gals--- watch out for andy 1 --the lad cleaned up in clubmans on his nekkid 600
GOOD ONYA ANDY
In 2 races I could only hang near him on Mella Yella (I was in pre89 at the same time as clubbiewas on the track )

Some guy on an RG150 (No. 39) ran me off the track!!! Tried to pass him on the outside of the sweeper and he just kept moving out and I had nowhere to go!!! Fucking prick! I had a few words afterwards and he didn't even apologize. Just made pathetic excuses.

No major crashes so it was all good. I couldn't believe that Mike offered me a ride on the FZR400!!! I was like **Mouth wide open, eyes wide open, drool, pick tongue off dirt** But I turned it down as it has A LOT more power than I have ever come across before and it's a bit of a jump from an XR200, a TF125 and a CT125 to an FZR400.

But all in all a bloody great day and was great to catch up with some familiar and strange faces.

you should have taken a ride on the fzr, i let samantha ride my 400 on sunday. she seemed to enjoy it. And that was the 1st time shes riden anything other than her gn.

And your 400 isn't a race bike running on Avgas and stuff is it? That 400 would probably only just lose against dad's 1100. Ask Frosty how fast it is. It keeps up with him that's for sure

I wasn't there so don't know the full details. But you say you 'Tried' to pass him, and he "just KEPT moving out...". Does that not mean - you weren't passed, and he was just continueing HIS line to the outside of the track?

I was DIRECTLY BESIDE him and he knew it. He kept moving out. I did not have the power to get past him. He being on a 150 2smoke and me being a 125 4stroke.

This would be his "line" for the sweeper... RG = Red, Me = Blue

My understanding is all the responsiblity is on the guy performing the overtaking to get past safely. Even if you had got past in the corner the RG would have cleaned you up down the straight and you would have been back to looking at getting past on another corner.

Well done for being able to keep up with a bike with heaps more power or is your motor highly modified?

I've run people off there before and even been run off. Even if you are right beside him doesn't mean hes seen you. I didn't think it was possible until I did it by accident too. You have to understand that everyone runs wide and uses every inch on that exit even when they don't need to. You also will NEVER see anyone on your outside no matter how close they are as you are always hanging off the inside and looking through the turn to your left.

So the moral is don't pass there unless you can do it cleanly or are prepared to do a little off-roading to make it stick.

Yes that is correct but if you were beside someone and they kept moving out, pushing you off the track...what the fuck would you do? The guy raced motocross and didn't take lines anyway. He was all over the place. He was so slow in the corners I could keep up but then he would leave me for dead on the straights. He would brake a lot earlier and me being on a 4 stroke with engine braking I only needed to brake for the hairpin so I caught up.

And my bike has been highly modified but my gearing still wasn't right. If I had a 15 tooth on the front I would of been sweet but we didn't have another link. Might be time to change from a 420 to a 425/428 chain.

hXc I had a fairing clash on the sweeper in F1 yesterday and ended out in the grass fishtailing away. I stuffed up my exit and the other guy tried a pass. Thats racing matey. You could play tiddlywinks if a bit of argy bargy gets you upset. Wait till you lock handle bars round Jennian at Puke that I'll give you a thrill.

I'm thinking you get aggressive and hold your spot on the track. (Thats what me and Rossi would do!) :cool:
If that means you add a bit of lean off your bike to push back at the guy trying to run you off the track, so be it! Now that takes a bit of nerve obviously, and could result in both of you down in a heap. Who's to blame then?? I guess it comes down to inches (who was in front by one inch), and who looks the ugliest once the helmits come off! :shutup: :stoogie:

What has worked for you other racers in that outside situation??

And just a word on behalf of us 150 racers.

Well if you don't know what your fucking line should be then you shouldn't be riding on the track!:angry2: This guy was a danger to other riders and most of the guys riding with him were complaining about his riding. If your holding people up in the corners then you should pull in close and stay in close so people can go outside you with ease, or alternatively you should go out wide and stay out wide so people can go around th inside of you with ease. None of this changing your line mid corner and cutting people off.

And if I'd stayed where I was he would've kept moving out and taken me out anyway.

You seem to be assuming there is only "one" line that should be used, I use whatever line works for that corner depending on traffic and if I'm trying to pass that may change from lap to lap



This guy was a danger to other riders and most of the guys riding with him were complaining about his riding.

Did anyone complain to a steward about his riding or did they just bitch about it in the pits,if it was the latter I have no sympathy, if you think someones riding is dangerous then talk to the appropriate person

I'm not assuming that. I know that there are many lines but you should stick to whatever line you choose to take. Which this prick was not doing. I race at Waipawa, I have ridden at Taupo twice before and been to many KB trackdays and everytime they emphazise(sp?) that you should stick to your line. If you're changing mid corner then you will fuck everybody elses appropriate lines up. And if you are holding people up then stick to the outside of the corner or stay right in close so people can pass you.

I gave him a personal warning that if he does it next time then I will be complaining to a steward. But sadly it started to rain so we packed up and left before it realy settled in.

if he is alot older than you, really, you should go by the rule respect your elders, and not get rude to them.

or even better, give the guy some advice.

instead of going up and shouting "your all over the fucking place!! sort your shit out or im squealing to the stuward"

go like this.

"hey dude, i noticed that you were having a little trouble holding a line around turn 4, what i suggest is .............. ETC ETC

and if they give you shit, just walk away. you tried to help them, so good on ya.

as for me i will never refuse to listen to advice, you never know who may be able to help you, even if they are 5 years old. (i had simi advice from one that did actually help)

Now I think your taking me all wrong here HXC. I'm not saying this guy didn't do something wrong. All I asked, (of other more expericed racers), is what do they do in that situation.
My comment about 150 racers is about our lack of experience meaning we don't know that we can often pull the bike tighter around a bend, and it has happened to me that I might drift to the outside of the track, when others would think that was unnessery. Learn as you go.

This was a race wasn't it? Why should he let you past if he's battling for postions with you?? Sure it's not on to purposely change your line to push someone off the track, (and you seem to have made it clear now that this is what you think he did, fair enough to be mad). but raceing is raceing, you get past if you can!
Once again, I'm not talking about this one insident, I'm talking about anyone trying to go round the outside of anyone else to gain one poistion. Sure he should let the leaders of the race lap him in a easy manor. Or if it was a Test/Praitice day, he should be considerate to others,

'Shouldn't be on the track' - I can understand your frustration at 'being pushed off the track', But we all have to learn somehow, and the track is the place. Part of the learning is making mistakes. I've done it, made mistakes, pissed people off, learnt from it, and hopefull I'm a better rider today because of it.

Also its called racing for a reason, if i can screw up somebodys line in a corner and beat them in a race you will see me doing it all the time, lol.

You could have also shut off the gas and not gone wide off the track, maybe even tucked back underneath him and got the drive to the line.

Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me.

hXc has got the good news. But I have to add that essentially, he was right in complaining about this guy. This prat did the same to me except I knew enough to cut back under him when I saw what was happening. RG150 vs. GS125 - I was never gonna out-power the guy and neither was hXc on his CT125.
Point was, the guy was slow-as in the corners and there was no need for him to drift wide after starting out in close (which is why hXc & I both tried to go around the outside) but he had no problem giving it some on the straight bits. As far as I know, anyone coming up from behind him into the sweeper would have had the same problem with him as we did. Most of us realise that you have to be significantly faster to pass on the outside line, and the sweeper at Taupo means covering a lot of ground. hXc has now learned that there are 'other ways' to deal with riders who don't hold their line.

Incidently, the guy was probably in his late 20's/early 30's. He did say that he had never been on a roadtrack before as he was a MXer, but my opinion was that he should have known better.
I also know that a raceday is different to a trackday, but we are usually told to hold our line & that is where hXc is coming from

Guys I'd suggest that what happened was a racing incident and no more.
It really is a case of --Thats racing
Im not saying that changing lines hugely on that particular corner isn't silly and I agree that going over and having a word to the guy wasn't silly -but perhaps with a cool head ---Id suggest that it was the nature of the meeting -running the 150 SS and bucket class together that was the issue not the guys riding.
HxC--good onya for taking the guy on -I must say I prolly would have taken the tight line round that sweeper if I were you because that corner was constructed to throw ya wide if you aint prepared to commit enough-as you found out dag namb it
Hey It happened to me at the same meeting on the same corner --a guy taking a middle line suddenly decided to drop over hard to the left --I was fully cranked over going past him -never thinking he would drop in like that. I had a front end lock up avoiding him -I was going about twice his speed --But hey shit happens -

My suggestion is it should be a MNZ RULE that all riders on their first 3 road race meetings should wear a fluro vest --It would let everyone know hes a novice racer

Big ups to Andy Scrivener and Chris Lawrance for putting on such a great day. Shame about the weather closing in but that was beyond their control. A really great day, low-key but very enjoyable. It was good to see the day so well supported - I understand there were about 140 entries.
