I am thinking of going to a track day but i do'nt know if i have the confidence to do any good!
Are there any training days or such like to help?
Or are any of you also new to this and feel the same?

The best thing for a track day mate is get out there and have fun. You get to choose your class and then you can progress from there. Never be scared of too much, you will get scared long before your bike lets go.

Not all of the time, unfortunately :o

It's not about doing good, or even 'winning'. It's about having a ball with no cagers or cops around.

If you need your hand held, you can do one of the TrackTime events which are superbly run but costly (approx $200). Or you can just jump straight in and go to a track day ($90). About half the people there will be street riders and theres bound to be a few first timers too.

Thanks for the advise, it looks like just going and learn as i go.
Went once but the weather turned to crap so i did'nt enjoy it as i tended to tense up too much.
I will pick a day with a good forcast and try again.

I done my first one a few weeks ago down at Levels Raceway, had an absolute blast. Should have done it sooner.

The Honda Riders Club do "Training Days" at Taupo. Other makes are accepted, there is a small surcharge, but the cost as I recall was about $100. The recent events at Taupo may have inflated that though...

These cater for *all* levels of ability. It does help if you have a list of questions you want to ask. The instructors will show all and sundry the general information but are available to solve *your* problems.

Did my first track day about a month ago, similar reservations to you.
Was a little dissapointed that there wasn't as much "training" as I expected. We were split into groups of Beginers, Road Riders and Racers then pretty much pointed to the track in those groups.
Great day, learnt a lot about myself, the bike and my riding temperament.
The real bonus was not having to worry about Mr Plod or some Wallace in a cage could just go as quick as I felt was right.
Recomend doing one. I'm lining up for the Honda Riders Club one in March.
Still have reservations about doing it, but Wifey says I'm a much smoother, more confident rider for having done it.
Hope that helps.
