I got this ns250r bike, long story,

anyway it lights up the overspeed light usually in 2nd or 3rd when I'm 2000rpm below the redline!

For example I've just put the thing back together after stripping the engine top end off to check it, and I'm testing it by zooming up to the redline in 1st then second which gets me to about 80ks but it lights up the overspeed light when you're sitting high in the revs in 2nd (*say 8000rpm, and the redline's 10,500), might have turned on when I let the throttle relax a bit, and didn't turn off until I got the revs down.

So what does it actually mean? Have I put the bike back together wrong?

Also it sometimes (maybe 2 or 3 times now) on starting makes this kinda cough/sneeze noise. like whup-poof, and then is hard to start. Hasn't been a big issue, but a possible cause for concern?
All I know is that the pistons and rings are on the worn side and the carb has been playing up in the past. (troubleshooting fun!) Could it be a gasket leak somewhere?

On my GB, the speed light comes on at 72km, regardless of revs/gear or even if the engine is running. Was bloody annoying havn a speed light coming on in 2nd so i "adjusted" it with my sidecutters

Just do what froggy does. It should be fine, the problems usually buff out by themselves. :devil2:

I think the previous person already disconnected it... I think that must have been the unplugged thing I plugged back in behind the speedo!

Just re-un-plug it, you cant change the speed its set to, i only cut mine coz its a bright red light, and i dont want to be used to seein red light from the speedo, or ill start ignoring it, then one day the red light will be for oil, and ill just ignore it

of course, the challenge is to do this while the light is on.

On the NZ-250 it comes on a 82km/h.
Definitely annoying, especially at night but was as simple as removing a bulb and instant no-red light.

Had a friend who was a courier (back when they had motorcycle couriers) & his NV400 had one. Said; if it was on around town maybe he should slow down a little. But he revised that to; if it ever turns off he wasn’t making any money.
