Just before christmas I started to feel a bit crook in the gut department.
Chistmas eve I was feeling really shit.
Christmas day was not too bad but not too good.
Not too bad and not to good continued until the docs opened on wednesday.
The doc said dunno what it is so have a scan if you must
I had the scan
Then got a phone call... they are waiting for you in wellington Emergency department, your appendix is a tad inflamed.
Got to wellington at 7:30pm and at 7:30am I was on a ward.
12pm I was in the Operating room
Dunno what time I was out again but my burst appendix had been removed and hopefully cleaned out.
Now I have an extended "holiday" and can't ride for another 6 weeks :-(
ah well... time to relax...

Not a very pleasant thing to happen, especially during summer but I'm sure you'll find some "less demanding" activities to fill your enforced holiday.
What?

Could you not have toughed it out until winter??
Oh well, on the bright side, most of the loonies should be off the road and back at work by the time you are back in working order.

Bugger mate, I know how painful that can be. I had my appendix burst 3 days after buying the RG400. It was not nice. Get well soon though.

Lucky it wasn't a burst heamoroid - that could have been a real pain in the arse!
So you back at home? Your missus would be sympathetic when you say you don't feel like visiting rellys.

You poor wee thing.......... (my daughter had her's burst on Feb 14 last year)
Ok in that 6 weeks... that means NO HEAVY LIFTING or high stretching either.
Sit back and relax.... feet up and watch tv... and listen to your body... if you start to feel tired, then go to bed and sleep.... sleep is the best healing process...
No driving either for X amount of weeks either.
You can do damage to your insides if you do things you ain't meant to do...
So do as the Doctor so ordered you to do.:doctor:
REST and REST and more REST.
After the 6 weeks.... take it easy when you get back on the bike.. as your bike fitness level has dropped right off.
Go for short rides.... (50kms to start off with) and then see how you feel..
re build it all up again slowly.
I was off my m/bike for 8 weeks, after my op on 6th May 2005.... and it took a while to get my bike fitness level back up when I was allowed to ride again... I only managed 38km and I was totally shattered afterwards.
Take care and heal well.

BAh, 6 weeks off? I was racing two weeks after I had mine out. Oh, hang on, I crashed. Err, maybe they really meant 6 weeks eh?
Take it easy, and as they say don' lift anything. It's a weird feeling like everything in your abdomen is trying to escape.

Bugger. Oh well, you're not missing a good riding day today anyway. I had mine out at 8, so can't really remember what the recovery was like. But I know I milked it for all the Lego I could get.

Go to the chemist and buy a roll of medical paper cellotape. Us this 24/7 where they sliced you up for the next few weeks or so. It'll help support it, gives a tight skin warning before any pain from movemnet and ensures your wound heals nice and thin.
Edit: This tape approach is also handy if you've had a c-section or another big operaiton.

good to see you can ride again, i had a catheter put in on the 19th Dec because of a bladder infection they replaced it with another on the 25th Jan. So i still can not ride. having a scan this week ,I hope, to find out whats wrong. Last year In June had a 8.5kg tumour removed from my insides. Took a 10 hour operation to remove, that took about 5 months to get get back on my bike.

Good to hear you are back on de road again.
Last week while recovering from Meningitis (:bash: ) I pulled the front end of the CBR to bits:doh: so I could fix the bulbs that were blown in the speedo.
Hope to be back on the road by the end of the week (when my replacement parts get here).

Bastard. It's five weeks today since I bust a collarbone and two weeks today until "the powers that be" decide if and when they're going to operate to fix it.
Mind you, it appears that human bone growth is potentially faster than the marvels of modern commerce. After a month I still have yet to receive a helmet (OK, so I wanted a graphic one, rather than just plain black) and it will be six weeks until the STeed is repaired.
Why does it take so long for motorcycle stuff to get ordered, dispatched and delivered? If I had ordered books from Amazon.com at the same time I ordered my helmet, I would have had them read by now! Maybe I should set myself up in opposition to the New Zealand distributors, as I can't believe that a major successful international manufacturer like Shoei (or any other helmet manufacturer for that matter) can't ship within 48-hours of receiving an order. The weak link has to be the New Zealand connection. The weak link needs a competitor.

To all those who are not riding for medical or mechanical know what it is like, I think the longer you have to wait the more you will appreciate the moment you are back in the saddle :-)
Oh, and the man at VTNZ was nice to me :-) so look out for the black and silver cbr600 around wellington for the next few weeks until I sell it... anyone interested?

To all those who are not riding for medical or mechanical know what it is like, I think the longer you have to wait the more you will appreciate the moment you are back in the saddle :-)I think most people know that the appreciation will be increased the longer it takes, but so can the anguish and frustration increase with the wait...still the moment of appreciation usually passes quickly and we begin taking our blessings for granted again! :shifty:
I hope ALL of you, who are somewhat bikeless at present, get back in the saddle real soon - you know you're missing out! :ride: (not meaning to be a discouragement  )

Yes it is, very frustrating. The biggest thing is that getting a bike is almost so close! I have a plan that just hasn't come to fruition yet. And getting paid monthly doesn't help (the pitance that it is - but I have a plan for that too...)
