View Full Version : Riding Pains?

Over the years whilst motorcycling I have suffered from hip & knee cramps, sore wrists, aching feet, itching 'hay-fever' eyes, dribbling nose, and just recently started getting an itchy neck just below my chin strap, which is really irritating and reduces the enjoyment of my ride a tad. All of these ailments eventually disappear and sometimes rear their ugly head again at certain times of the year.

I'd be interested to hear what your pains are too, and please, not toooo much detail okay! :psst:

SV Buttock..depends on whether I move about on the seat which helps and sometimes pins and needles in throttle wrist but I guess bikes were not meant to be comfy all the time

My hands give me some shit these days, cant think why! But depends if i'm on it any discomforte goes away as i'm all about riding, but cruising it pops up from time to time, when i stop, it sucks.
Hopefully a few more offs and i'll hurt something else to take my mind off my hands, or i could just get me a cup of harden the f$%k up. You want some Zed, one sugar or two?

Luckily the old body holds up well to hundreds of K's of non-stop riding at a go with only fuel stops.

As for having a cold.......yeah that makes one go..........:weird:

Another rotten thing is where you get a bug in the eye and can never get it completely out so have to continue with only one functional eye;)

Any of you ladies ever workout??

OAB will know what I'm talking about here. Spinal injuries are the pits. The permanent damage sucks. The worst one for me is the burning pain in my right hand that gets worse over a ride.

Mind over matter. At least I can use my hand.

There are other pains, but they're boring.

I used to get a sore knee when it had two pins in it(the inside pin used to rub against the tank), but when they took the knee brace off it was all good.....

Ducati use to give me a sore Knee now & then Triumph T509 gave me sore shoulder blades . FZ 1000 left wirst . The GSXR1000 can put my hand to sleep if I sit on 100k for to long but that doesn't happen much LOL I think all bikes have to portenial to do something just need to ride it for long enough for them to show up . But thats life can get sore driving a car for along time too .

If I rode a reasonable distance on my NTV, I used to get a severe pain behind my left shoulder. Since getting the GTR, I have no problems. Must have been the riding position or the buffeting from no faring.

...I think all bikes have to portenial to do something just need to ride it for long enough for them to show up.Yeah i think you're right there. I used to get cramps on my Gixxers, sore butt on my Kwaka, and my right wrist started numbing on my Blackbird...forearms are still coming to terms with the new 954, maybe i should lay off the 1st gear bouncing wheelies! :woohoo:

Btw, I don't think I read you correctly Sensei, did you mention driving a "car"?? :baby:

worst i occasionally get is where my hip doesnt want to bend so i can sit properly. usually only happens if im pillion with high up pegs. also occasionally get a slightly sore right wrist...wish i could get one of those things to hold the throttle in place and keep the revs up so i could shake it every so often, lol

My bike has a very stiff throttle... if I place it at a certain angle the throttle will stay open,

just an idea... tighten the thottle a little.

Ahh but the thrill when you stand up and the pins and needles cut in :-)

My palms get really soar (not from you know what) & usually on the straights I grip the tank and take the weight off to give my hands a break.
One finger goes completely numb, not every ride but it is on the brake side which makes it interesting when you can't feel the lever.
When punting it hard and moving around on the bike alot I can get cramp in the hips. Sticking a leg out for a while fixes it.

Hows this for wierd.

When I gun it from standstill I get cramps in my left thigh. Why?

madmal64
5th January 2006, 16:42
Numb bum after about 350 ks on the RF and the pins & needles in the hands at the steady 100km for a length of time.
I wish Id brought a corbin seat when I had the chance, but since Im looking to change my ride thats out of the question and then I will probably have to get used to something else getting sore or cramped.
My old CBX750 RC17 used to lock my hips in to a position and shit it used to hurt trying to get off the bike after a longish ride.

When I gun it from standstill I get cramps in my left thigh. Why?Sudden pressure on your thigh maybe?? try stretching before you ride dude...is there a physiotherapist in the house? :doctor:

Used to get a numb bum from the old ZX (first one) but that's no longer. ( must be due to the extra padding you develop with age)

The slightly more extreme riding position on the current ZX compared to the CBR now means I get a sore back, wrists, palms and forearms. Last weekend's Coro loop gave me aches and pains in place I didn't know existed.

Last weekend's Coro loop gave me aches and pains in place I didn't know existed.Yeah, i think Kwaka's so the same to me? My 2nd decent ride around the Coro Loop that same day as you saw me quite comfy all the way except for the homeward hour long stretch on the motorway from Papakura to Hobsonville, started getting sore feet towards the end. Had been on the bike for total of about 7 hours though so made a great impression on me, very happy to spend that amount of time on a sprotsbike and still feel reasonably comfortable, wasn't even sore the next day!! Go Honda!

I actually hurt more if i drive a manual car, but i have a feeling thats cos of the injury in my leg. Autos are so-so, not too much pain...less then riding.
Other aches while riding.......wrists are the worse......next bike i own will have to be a streetfighter/motard - my wrists have nasty RSI from holding my weight in long rides.

what we need is a bit more endurance training say 500 k a day keeps the sore backs away

my right wrist is shorter than my left (after having the proximal row of bones
removed some time back so i ride a little lobsided,) witch i find gives me a sore neck,I have a plate and pins in one leg as well as a dirty big K rod
in the other, I just find that when i ride longer they sort of lock up a bit
if you know you going to have to stop after a long ride its fun
( all sorts of hopping antics and and shit allways keeps my brothers kids
laughing)

My right hip. If I'm on a longish ride and feel like stretching my legs by standing up - sometimes my hip sort of locks, then when I sit down it fkin hurts, so I have to stand up and shake my leg around. I bet it looks like I've shat my pants and I'm trying to shake it down my trousers to other road users..

I took a hit on my right hip a while back. It caused the hip problem and nerve damage to my leg.

But you'd never know - because I'm a honed riding, shagging and bragging machine.

My old bike used to bring out reminders of past injuries. The new one is such a pleasure to ride. I get more pain from the cage than the bike. My shoulder is still not 100% but only notice it manuovering the bike at low speeds or when pushing it in or out of the parking space at work and home. The hip likes the extra leg room so does not play up now.

Depends on the bike

Kr1 250 , Arse and thighs , a killer after 500 km (rest of body)
Duc 748 , Sholder blades , upper arms (bad at low speed) after 400 kms
R6 , knees to the point of not enjoying riding after 200 kms, suit younger rider !.
GSXR1000 , mostly good , thighs / arse a bit sore after 400 kms but comfie bike.
GSX600f , no issues.
XJ600 upper arms.

The one that pisses me of is my right hand ring finger,I hurt it after the throttle stuck onthe face of a jump. I continued the race , but 6 months after it feels dead , funny sort of, works ok just when I put pressure on it ,,,but hey i only use it for braking and I dont do much of that !!!:headbang:

The legs give me gip , broke both of those on a cb360 , so when the weather changes I get a spike of pain that stops conversation ....

oh and the one that REALLY anoys me most is the chunk out of me right wrist ( rg250 160 km/hr ) well it is right where you rest the hand to use a mouse ,,,so I have all these bean bags around the computer ,,otherwise it hurts ,,,,

riding wise after 400km on the enfield I get a sore butt ,,,,BUT I will change to the wide sprung saddle ,,,( would also like to go back to rigid frame and sprung saddle, as I really like this combo for handling and comfort ! )
