Runciman Road, rural Pukekohe, 400m north of Pukekohe East Primary School. It was on a series of tight twisty bends.
may have been a head on.
that's all i got - from a friend on another list.
it's not a harley is the only detail i have.
RIP brother/sister, if he/she is from here or not.

I did that road 3 times the day before because it is a quiet slightly twisty road to practice on as a newbie!
Is it just me as a newbie or is everyone getting a bit nervous out there with these fatalities and ongoing crashes??

The road goes from Pukekohe east road (main drag between Puke town & Bombay about half way along that road turn at the tennis courts) and ends up on the bottom of Gt Sth Rd Drury end.

That is so sad. I just had a look at the thread the guy started after his first time out on the road on 24 December...just 13 days ago. Sounds like he thought about what he was doing on the road and was eager to learn.
Damn. This one really hurts.

With respect I suggest that topic gets taken up in a new thread?

RIP Scott.
This is a sad story and not the least because he wasn't some young smart arsed squid. 30 years old and he did seem to be doing it all right.
Take care everyone.
While we are on the topic of fatalities, I have a railway background and yet again today we have had a fatality at a rail crossing this time in Goose Bay. Please take it easy around rail tracks and watch for trains, they cannot swerve to avoid you when you don't give way. This time it was a guy in a ute, but motorcyclists aren't immune because before Xmas we had a guy ride into the side of a train in the Bay of Plenty. Keep your eyes open, stay on your side of the road and give way when you are meant to. Ride safe.

When I read the start of this thread on 5 Jan I hoped it wasn't Scott. I'd talked to him a bit on this site but we hadn't met. After spending the morning passing the CBTAF course, and riding SH22 with a mate after - a most enjoyable motorcycling day, I log on to find out if it was Scott.
This is sobering news. Seemed a real nice guy who liked to do things right. Looked at his website and video, and this confirms what I thought. Tragic! Just one mistake in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the consequences are so final. I had only spoken to Scott via a keyboard but could feel his spirit in his words. Given the loss I feel, I can't imagine what it must be like for those who actually knew him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Scott.

Hey Guys, have spoken with Scotts dad this morning, as you can imagine the family are devastated.
As hard as it may be for those of you that meet Scott, the family have asked that we do not attend the service.
His dad felt that gievn the short time that Scott had been involved with Motorcycles, and given that the rest of the family have no conection with motorcycles they would prefer for us not to attend.
I can only ask that you respect their wishes.
His dad said he would be happy for us to add our wishes and thoughts to a letter/thread.
If someone can start a new thread and we add our thoughts/wishes and comments over the next few days, I will print them off and take them to him.
Again, I ask you respect the familys wishes, despite your own feelings.

Jesus H. Christ, not another one. This forum's turning into a charnel house. I take a few weeks off and it's enough time for new members to join, ride and die?
He's the second to check out on a ZZR250, too. Very similar circumstances. Maybe there's something about the handling that encourages the overcooking of lefthanders.

Got it off Gremlin I think wasn't it?
Yep. That was my bike
Only 16 days from purchase to accident. And he was an awesome guy. Asked heaps of questions, got all the gear, definitely didn't seem to be a squid to me.
He said he had always had that little hankering to get a motorbike, and he felt it was about time to try it out.
What a sad sad loss. :weep:
Condolences to the family. I know they weren't too thrilled with him getting a motorcycle.

And Erik, I think you are right about the ZZR. I would not recommend that bike to anyone. I will even go as far as, think one of the worst bike a newbie can get!...
Lou Girardin
14th January 2006, 07:51
It's NOT the bike. Any bike will run wide if the rider cocks up a corner. I did the same on my RF.
The newbies should remember - slow in, fast out.
I know 250's need corner speed to keep up, but not at this type of risk.
