Have a thread running in online trading for the old ones but I wonder if anyone knows who give the best deals on new Metzler racetecs. Mt Eden have given me a fairly keen price but I wonder if anyone else can go lower.
The bugger is that the Yanks get a free front tyre at the moment.... God bless America - land of the free (stuff)

I did call Cycletreads and came across the most applalling example of customer service - "grumpy old men" comes to mind. Second time I have been dis-appointeed with them sorry to say.
They came up with $630 whereas Mt Eden came in with $560

sounds like Mt eden wants your business....and realise that people shop around....I reckon if a shop can't give you there best price straight off....then they can go fuck them selves.... sorry lou....but your price is way off.... why is that???

TSS motorcycles in Alicetown, Lower Hutt often come up with rediculously low prices. If I remember I'll check with them and post back.
I know you can't go past their prices for Pilot Powers.
Update: Rear 190 50 17 ($309)
Front 120 70 17 ($219)
Fitting & Balance for both tyres ($70)

tell cycletreads you are from Kiwibiker... they do watch on here, i have always bought my running gear (tyres, sprockets, chains, oil) from them since i got my ZXR and they know me by name now. Best if you go in and have a chat. If you talk nicely rather than demanding they will put you first, they deal with a lot of shit heads so you cant expect them to be nice all the time ;)

Nice thought but I can expect them to me nice everytime. I am (and all the other customers) doing them the favour by thinking about giving them my custom.

That's just based on what we can buy them for. If Mt Eden are paying the same as us, there must be next to no margin left. I know some people think that businesses should make no profit and do it for love, but I prefer to keep my job.
Tyre pricing is hard to fathom sometimes, a certain Pirelli stockist advertises Diablos (pair fitted) for less than what they'd cost us.

How about if you've had a price you're happy with, you buy them. Instead of constantly playing one shop off against another and beating them up on the price, them hoping they'll gain some loyalty from you in future.
Bike shops make next to nothing on tyres. It's got nothing to do with the shops that Americans get tyres at half the price we do. You want those prices? Move there.

Ouch! But good point- I found a shop where I get a decent price and great service and since then I've never gone anywhere else.
Having said that tyres are bloody expensive... lately I've had to resort to putting used rubber off hire bikes on so that I can afford to do other stuff like suspension, brakes etc. Not something I like doing...

I know a certain shop that wanted to charge me $400 for a certain rear tyre, even after I've spent bucket loads there in the past.
Another unfamiliar shop offered me the same tyre at $235. I had him recheck his price, he triple checked his price too after I told him the oppositions price, turned out $235 was correct.
Neither shop was including fitting/balancing in the price.
Thats a pretty significant difference.
Hence, I no longer spend anything at the original shop.
