View Full Version : What part of 'fire ban' didn't she understand?

Jeanette Fitzsimmons has gotten off with a warning after she and her partner started a burn off of some gorse on their land.
Strangely enough, she said she knew there was a ban, but her partner said he didn't, so that was the reason for a warning only.
She also said it was just a little fire and they knew what they were doing.
Good old socialists, do as I say not as I do.

Dumb fucking bitch, geez. That gorse was a beautiful thing for the environment, look at the pretty flowers on it, now they've gone and killed it. Wonder if they were clearing space for this years "crop".

I once burnt off ''a little gorse'' - holybegeebersfuckingkrist, just about the biggest scare in my life. You suddenly realise how big and powerful nature is when a ''little fire'' takes off and you haven't got a hope in hell of putting the geni back in the bottle.

Yes - I caught this one on David White's show on Radio Live this morning.
Does it create a legal precedent in light of her husband's comment -
"I'm sorry officer - I was ignorant of the law"

Big old can of worms that debate. personally, I don't think ignorance is an excuse. Pretty much anything you would like to do, bar farting in a public elevator, is governed by some rules of some description, and in the peak of fire season, surely ones common sense would prevail, and get you thinking about whether its a good idea in the first place, and if there are rules governing the whole thing.
Sounds like a cheap cop out excuse to me.

Farting in the lift is a fantastic pastime!! Either letting go quietly and glaring at one person in particular (for a crowded lift) or leaving an aura for others to find....

No, I'm way too good for that! It's the strange looks that I get when I'm sitting at my desk and the chuckle starts to get bigger and tears are rolling down my cheeks. I left the lift and went to get back a couple of minutes later and the GM stepped out with his hand over his face - I took the stairs!

When I was on Waiheke Island,a local who was once 'Young Farmer of the Year',a Counciler, and at the same time a thorn in the side of the Council - would do burn offs without contacting Council or fire Brigade...his stand was even if he told the Fire Brigade some do gooder would hit the alarm soon as they saw smoke and they would have to do a call out anyway. He was right really - the only danger was that he'd clear more of his infested useless farm than he intended....and thereby opening up more land for us to ride our bikes on....

Any political party that stands up to the establishments values are labeled as communististic.
The Greens have never advocated the redistrabution of wealth, or argued that the conditions of the modern industrial society result in the alienation of the worker from their own labour as Marx has done in his Economic and Political Manuscripts of 1844.
The Greens Political manifesto is one of production that is the least harmfull to the environment. When you consider the harm that the communist countries have done to their their own environment and compare that with Green philosphy any comparison between the two is just political nonsense.

it isn't the fact that people sometimes do stupid things that bothers me
---------- its the fact that, with some people, their ego is toooooo enormous to allow them to FACE the fact that what they have done is stupid
------- so they bend over backwards to justify it and prove it WASN'T stupid
----------- and so leave themselves open to doing it again, or something similarly stupid, in the future.

The Greens have advocated the redistribution of wealth. By encouraging such a high progressive tax rate as we have at the moment they are encouraging the taking of money from those who are prepared to work for it and handing it out to those who don't work as hard.
The Green's Political manifesto is one of production that is harmful to the population of New Zealand. (Of course it could be argued that our population are not part of the environment.) The imposition of a carbon tax would mean that industry would have to find less efficient means of production. Horse drawn carriages instead of cars perhaps? But would that mean a lot more methane?
Much of the Green policy is pure ideology with little practical application.

No, that is just 'your' interpretation of their policies and as such does not make them a communist party.
Hard work has rarely equated to higher wages. In fact I would say the very opposite. Higher wages are based on skill, knowledge..........and demand.
Your analysis of the Greens carbon tax policies, that industry would have to find less efficient means of production, is indicative of your lack of corperate mentality. One again I say the very opposite as a more efficient means of production would require industry to pay less carbon tax, not more as you suggest.

Considering the harm caused to the environment by excessive burning, you'd think they would have endeavoured to RECYCLE.
I hope they plant some natives quickly or the gorse will dominate the botanic ecosystem anyway.
(And I know that the burnt ashes will provide nutrients for new growth and is technically recycling but not the least harmful method to the environment.)

Oh no mate, the ol' 420 is completely carbon neutral; whatever you smoke up, the carbon in it was absorbed out of the air by the plant.
Or were you just talking about the gorse......
