Abuse of fellow members

I have let members have pretty much a free hand on what they can say and do on this site, but recently I have been receiving too many complaints from members receiving abusive PMs/Posts and Rep. So here is the first rule of Kiwi Biker that WILL be enforced.

Abuse of members will not be tolerated. After a justified complaint is received and investigated, the abuser will be sent to the Sin Bin.

Once in the Sin Bin, you will not be allowed to use Private Message or the Reputation System. Also everything you post in the forums will first be sent to the moderation queue for Moderator approval before it will display in its thread.

You could try a create a new login, but it wouldn't be long before your true colours show again. If you're caught creating a new login, your accounts will be merged and your time in the Sin Bin will be extended.

Well just for the record I have never used the PM system for abuse at anytime. The PM is for personal contact and I treat it in the same way as I would if I was face to face.

Mind you I don't believe that I have abused these forums or its members in any way. I can be a bit on the sarcastic side but this has been only to provoke a response to make a thread more lively. Having said that all I see on the screen is the forum name not the person so my response is to the name and not the person. One poster here as had some difficulty with this but at the end of the day all here see only Skyryder..........nothing else and the same is at my end. Those who have not met me have no idea who I am, what I look or if indeed, male, female or alien.

Ideas are just words in a cohernt form. So too are insults. The choice of whether we agree or not agree to a point of view is a decision that we all make. The same can be said with an insult. We agree with the insult and get ourselves all shitty or we can disagree with it and take it for what it is. Words that are not true. So why do people get themselves bothered by something that is untrue.

I enjoy it here. Met some good people. Some even say my arch nemisis is alright. Might find out one day.

Until that day comes I for one will continue in my usual manner and if I am treated with the comtempt that my arch nemisis was no need to sin bin me guys, I will l play somewhere else. :buggerd:

Instead of total censure, wouldn't it be better to have Forum Ignore (which is there already) and PM Ignore (which I belive is not there yet)?
As for the Rep system, I do not have an answer, but I do not belive in Rep system anyway.

Sounds like a good idea and hopefully the process will be maturing for those involved. I've noticed that the % of PD has increased and as a result many of us don't post as much. Its a great site you run and should you say "jump", we need to say "how high"? I'm no saint myself and have done some stuff that I now regret. I found the sin bin thing a maturing process and believe its a good thing. We need to all remember that there are real people at the other end of all the user names. That's what makes this site so different. It 'is' the cut and thrust, the debates, the pisstakes and the odd slagging. Most forums are full of people with the same ideas, ideas and still the same ideas. As soon as someone comes along that offers a different opinion or perspctive they pounce like jackels. It is as if they are unable to tolerate, deal with, or even acknolwledge that there are many and varied opinion outside of their own small world. And it's bloody sad, not so much as some are unable to digest different ideas but nearly everbody here agrees with what Spank has done. He's changed the rules after starting the game:Oi:

The guys this is aimed at (mostly) are the cowards who use the pm system to abuse personally those who don't agree with them and don't have the face to say so where everyone else can see. I got some of that myself today! I obviously pissed someone off, so they sent me some rep - but forgot to click the "I disapprove" button so I got green rep instead of red! I don't mind people disagreeing with what I say, but I do think being red repped (when they do it properly!) for having a different viewpoint to someone is pathetic. I have just been advised that Ive been sin binned for "member abuse". Now I am unaware of having done anything lately that would equate to this and are left wondering what exactly is going on behind the scene here at KB? I have wore far worse than what i have dished out and not complained about others' have done to me. If this is what i can expect from the masses here at KB, then whats the point in being a part of it. We live in a country where freedom of speach is a right. Here at KB, would just depend on who you complain to and how much you complain. Would be nice if someone could or would shed some information regarding this, as I'm at a loss. Sounds like a good idea and hopefully the process will be maturing for those involved. I've noticed that the % of PD has increased and as a result many of us don't post as much. Its a great site you run and should you say "jump", we need to say "how high"? I'm no saint myself and have done some stuff that I now regret. I found the sin bin thing a maturing process and believe its a good thing. We need to all remember that there are real people at the other end of all the user names. I have let members have pretty much a free hand on what they can say and do on this site, but recently I have been receiving too many complaints from members receiving abusive PMs/Posts and Rep. So here is the first rule of Kiwi Biker that WILL be enforced.

Abuse of members will not be tolerated. After a justified complaint is received and investigated, the abuser will be sent to the Sin Bin.

Once in the Sin Bin, you will not be allowed to use Private Message or the Reputation System. Also everything you post in the forums will first be sent to the moderation que for Moderator approval before it will display in its thread.

You could try a create a new login, but it wouldn't be long before your true colours show again. If you're caught creating a new login, your accounts will be merged and your time in the Sin Bin will be extended.

Thread dredging , hmmm well I have been here a year or so I think and there are still posts i think about and would llike to resume the conversation

Personally If I see a thread that for me is over , then I move on ...and with the the scroll mouse that be very quick.

To give you an image of what I mean , the greatest biker movie of all time is Easy rider. I could talk about that dog legged Harley till the cows come home .....the movie was on the big screens in the 60 s .....thread dredging ????

To be honest I have been mucking around on this net since the early ninties, and all these netiquette leaves me dumbfounded
Simple human understanding on the other hand is a whole lot easier to understand , so one must look past post that for what ever reason may be F#$%^ up ,and ... click scroll ,,,,,,done , the person posting may be having a YCS ...
I use unlimitd bandwith and speed , as well as 64 k unlimited , so Know both ends of the storyas far as speed .
those who worry about thread dredging should IMHO get out more * even if the topic has been repeated* the scroll button is your saviour , I must scroll through pages and pages of single word replies ,,( Spam) to read one witty reply
But those reply are genuine gold, from real people seeking honest responses , and I will ALWAYS give those people 100 percent of my time and assistance
and that experience is free , all others I charge 120 per hour .( actually it doesnt work like that , I just love helping people that I foget to charge , and have to take a day job to make ends meet!)

But yeh ... this is a regular problem and not unique to just this site, Ive been in many chat sites and forums and have also moderated many of them and the abuse is alll too common ... but seemingly always only a small minority do it and ruin it fo those that wanna enjoy the fellowship of the site... So top marks to you 'spank' for nipping it in the bud early, Ive seen sites that no longer exist that were awesome until a small few destroyed them in 'fun'.

Looking forward to meeting some of the locals and not so local riders, have met acouple on the Palmerston North ride a couple weeks ago.

But so far (stumbling around the site finding whats behind all the doors :P ) im enjoying this place ... good work webby(s)

That's what makes this site so different. It 'is' the cut and thrust, the debates, the pisstakes and the odd slagging. Most forums are full of people with the same ideas, ideas and still the same ideas. As soon as someone comes along that offers a different opinion or perspctive they pounce like jackels. It is as if they are unable to tolerate, deal with, or even acknolwledge that there are many and varied opinion outside of their own small world. Kinda in agreement. To enforce this 'law', the board gods would first have to examine their own prejudices and act equally with resoect to all personal attacks. My experience here as a newbie suggests that they don't act equally, they allow their mates to get away with personal attacks. Hell, I was attacked by three of the minor demigods here and as far as I can tell, they got away with it scott free.
So, in the absence of magnanimous equality from theboard moderators, only an everthing goes policy can be truly fair to all.

Sadly you're right. We've been moving right for decades an although we are nowhere near as fascist as the yanks, we're on our way.
If National had won the last elections we'd have been on the fast track (the lies they told were outrageous and were a copy of Bush's tactics). We wouhave ended up with a party prepared to sell NZ's economy to multinationals.

That's fair enough spankme but IMO the set up of the forum actually encourages abuse.

things like not allowing people to see who is sending them red reps and abusive comments only makes it easier for the abusers to get away with it and I've definitely noticed that some moderators have a leaning toward taking the side of incumbents against newcomers when it would be far more sensible for the balance to be quite the opposite.
From what I've seen, some moderators respond only to those complained against and don't go back to see who STARTED the abuse and its escalation. If there is to be punishment, surely the INITIATOR of abuse or inflammation is the one who should be MOST punished?

Unless 'justice' is SEEN to be done, it will not be accepted as BEING done so the constant streams of abuse and inflammatory posts by incumbents that LEAD to escalation MUST be quashed in public. Not to do so only leads people to think "If that long termer can get away with it, why shouldn't I?"

I notice that I can now see who is sending me reps. That's nice but unless that privelage is given immediately to all, it is just an excuse and opportunity for anonymous abuse.

That is unacceptable, there is a sense of fun and sometimes stupidity online that can be taken the wrong way, I never judge people by their online activities untill I have met them in person.
Some come across as hard arses and some as jokie twerps, then you meet them and they are nothing like that.
More than a couple of KB'ers I have met are very quiet almost meek individuals, no way like they carry on online. Probably just as well really, real life can jump up and smack you if you get too lippy.
