The biker cops can thank their lucky stars that Holden and Ford don't make bikes!
I saw a Bikey Cop outside my house just off the harbour bridge the other day. He was on an ST1300. Is this the standard issue bike or do they have BMW's as well?
I say give em the BMW's!!! A happy cop is a good cop.

the cops should dress up some sport thou's like K6 and R1s for highway use. That'd scare most runners..

If you saw a bike cop on an ST1300 then it was a one-off. The cops used to ride ST1100s but are fazing/have fazed these out in preference for a BMW outfit.
The Poms, however, have seen the light http://groups.msn.com/ST1300US/ukpolicebikes.msnw?albumlist=2

Sorry, my mistake. It must have been a ST1100s. I only saw the front and presumed it was a 1300.

And the little storage bay behind the seat will keep the dounuts warm! However, I think their asses would be raw after spending a full shift on a Fireblade.

I remember back in '87. In Auckland they trialled a couple of GPz900 mufti bikes. Basically looked stock (even paintjobs) but for a little box and light on the back.
Dunno what ever happend about that.

So what exactly were you doing without indicators that didn't work? Isn't that kinda asking to be run over again? I can understand the mirrors, plate, L plate...
I think I'd stop for a thou... unless I had a thou myself and fancied a chase. The more I think about it, the more interesting a chase with one would be. All it takes is one foot (or even 1 inch) wrong on the bike and they're dead. Not like in a car where they'll prob survive any crash. How many would make the ultimate sacrifice just to save their ego?

Yeah, sounds fun but I dunno though, imagine riding one ALL day, week in and out... I reckon you'd be a crippled old man LONG before your time.
Be fun for motorway pursuits though :)

The new 'Light deactivation' option is only available for authorities' use and allows the possibility to switch off the main light while the engine is running.
Madness! Maybe now I'll get owned on my runs home from work at 8pm at night by the Welly bike cop who hides half way from Aotea to the SH1/SH2 split, tho if he is any harder too see he will probably get hit one day soon

Probably the same thing that happens to many cop cars.

That would be Nodman on his ST1100.
He got given the Beemer and promptly gave it back.
There's dedication for ya! What'd he like so much about his ST1100 that the BMW couldn't provide?
The Bikewise event is celebrating its 10th anniversary and is viewed by Durham police as an ideal way to interact with local riders and motorcycle clubs to promote safer riding and to help reduce casualties on the roads of Co. Durham.
'Honda has supported Bikewise from the very start,' says Sgt. Bob Brown of Durham Constabulary. 'This is the second Fireblade that they have helped us with and we also have an SP-1 sports bike. They act as a perfect ice-breaker and PR tool and we’ll have all three at Bikewise this weekend.'
The Durham force has a dedicated motorcycle unit with nine officers and, in addition to the new ‘PoliceBlade’, the two-wheeled fleet is made up of Honda ST1100 and ST1300 machines.
The Fireblade, however, is an out-and-out sportsbike and, in the hands of racer Chris Vermeulen, is currently just two points off the lead of the World Superbike championship.
'We’re Honda through and through,' confirms Sgt. Brown, 'and you can imagine that all the officers are fighting for the Blade keys at the moment; but that only shows we’re all bikers at heart. Just because we’re police officers, we’re not ‘out to get’ motorcyclists – we simply want to encourage safer riding and to help reduce casualties.'
Mervyn Smith, corporate sales manager for Honda Motorcycles, is a big fan of Durham Constabulary. 'It’s not just because they’re one of our best customers,' he says, 'it’s because of their unique approach to motorcycle safety.'
He continues: 'They would much rather talk to local riders about any bad riding habits than prosecute them and this stunning new ‘PoliceBlade’ is a perfect way to engage them in that kind of dialogue.'
Good way of policing that, I'd like to see the same approach taken here. A cool cop who's more biker than cop, with a cool bike, just having a bit of a banter about riding safely, still having a bit of fun but within the law... message might just get through to a few more riders :)

Why dont you ask him? He's on the site.
*Shrug* I dunno. Was just interested - not many, especially on this site, would give the BMW back again for their Honda. I know of someone who most likely would, but then, he's a Honda nut through and through. No, I'm not referring to myself...
Could ask him, but you seemed to know. Doesn't really seem important enough to PM him just to find that out as well.
Carry on.
