How many of you have air horns fitted to your bike(s)? How much are they and where would I fit 'em on a naked bike?

I have a set on the BMW. They were cheap ones from SuperCheap about $30 something . I was disappointed in them. I mounted the trumpets on the right crash bar, and the compressor in the top box. A naked bike might be easier than a faired one, sine bits "bolted on and sticking out" look less out of place than on the constrained surfaces of the faired machine. .

But do they blast broken bottles out of the gutter Ixion?

Ixion

No, that is why I was disappointed. I had hoped that setting them off would cause blood to ooze from the ears of those assailed by them but no such luck

If the seat comes off would the compressor be okay under there? It's a 1989 VT250 SPADA. But then I would still have a problem with mounting the horns

Bugger Ixion. And just tape the whole deal to your helmet hXc, and plug in. Or into some kind of airhorn jetpack. No, no, wolverine airhorn claws, hell yeah.

Compressor will be OK anywhere you can physically jam it. But you may need to get some extra tubing to reach from the compressor to the trumpets. I used some small U bolts to mount the horns, you could bolt them to any convenient frame tube.

I reckon they would look funny where you can see them and stuff. I think they would be better hidden so people can't see what made the noise from this little thing:Punk: Maybe under the rear fairing thingy. Put a peice of corflute under them to stop shit getting flicked into them from the back wheel maybe?

Just do what I did...

I brought a hand held airhorn... like the ones at Rugby games or on the boats... and I just duc taped it on to my handle bars... it worked a treat, it really did...

Oh yeah and the sound is so damned loud....

Only thing with that, is how long does the horn last (I assume they are a disposable thing, you can't refill them ?). The rate I use my horn I suspect it would only last a week. Might be nice to have one on a string though, so you could pick it up and aim it directly thrugh cage windows, straight at the ear of the prat who has just cut you up.

I know on the Supercheap Auto's unit I bought it stated you have to mount the compressor upright so that does limit it a little.

Mine's on it's side. I tried various ways, didn't seem to make a difference.

Actually I did wonder. The unit I got is a sealed compressor with no facility to top up the oil so I figured it either runs dry or is sealed, either way I wondered why it said mount vertical, I did 'cause I had the room where the original horn went in behind the top of the frame behind the forks.

Hmm, this idea I like . . . maybe we could also have a set of spare ball bearings floating round that accidentally roll into the horn inbetween uses? I mean, how were we to know one had fallen in, and would shoot out and whack the little prick upside the head from the force of the compressed air when we hit the button?

Kind of like giving them an automatic frontal labotomy. Mind you, state of some drivers, you would think they have had one already.

So can anyone recomment a brand of air horn to get that's nice and loud and doesn't sound too gay? I had a quick look at the $35 ones in at Super Cheap yesterday, but they looked super cheap and a bit bulky. $35 wasn't too shabby tho!

I also have bought a Supercheap airhorn (twin) but it was on special or summat cos was only about $25.

Compressor under the seat, chucked the relay (too complicated) and bought a DickSmiff button that could handle the ergs and wired it direct (thru a fuse). Mounted just one of the horns with the rear of it against the radiator as high as it would go. Not too obvious from the front. Had to carve a bit off the bottom of the horn as the front mudguard could rise that high on big bumps. Sounds OK to me and is loud.

Only used it once in anger so far. Some guy decided to pull right into my lane from side road - I was 100m away after taking avoidance action so hope he heard it :spudgrr:

I think all bikes should have them.

Apparently not with the Supercheap ones but the Repco ones better. Motorbikes should come standard with air horns. The factory horns are pathetic. You can't hear them over then engine noise so what's the point!

P.S I CAN'T WAIT TILL I PICK UP MY BIKE

Well dad just got home and I walk out and find 3 sets of airhorns sitting on the bench. From repco - $35 each but we got 'em for $30.

Fiamm brand, 2 horns, 12V compressor, piping and mounting equipment. Not bad I say.

I put one of those Fiamm air horns from Repco on this morning. I just used the big one for now, I'll hook it up so that both are connected when I get more time. It's loud as shit! Wasn't too complicated to hook up either.

They should be awesome for scaring pedestrians! :blip::blip:

Kid down here has three airhorns on a GN250, rides with antoher GN250 and some red learners bike. I have been trying to get a photo for the forums but every time I see him I don't have the camera

Sounds like a truck is bearing down on the intersection when he presses the button

I have Fiamm air horns on the RD350LC. They are mounted behind the number plate with the compressor in the tail section. All work rather well. the standard horn was a tweetie bird in a can...

Well i shot out today and spent a hole $35 of the christmas dough and got a set of Airhorns, i fitted the compressor in the underside of the frame above the carbs running the hoses forwards to underneath the front fairing below the handle bars. both pointing forwards, had to scrounge around the local dairy and servo to find the right sized connections to wire the relay though.

Has anyone had an interesting time getting a WOF with these on¿ i would think they would echo through the building quite nicely....:headbang:
