Do you mean 250GP racing? There are bugger all people doing that now days. 4 at manfeild nats, 5 at teretonga, the class isn't going to be round much longer. I think that its a pretty much 50/50 split of TZ250's and RS250's, of all vintages. John Beck has the most flash one, 01 RS250 iirc. The word is that this will be the last year of it being a class in the NZ champs. With fields of under 6 it's hardly worth it.

Whats supposed to be replacing it and what skills will that new class teach ?

Nothing, its a pointless class these days. The transition is from 125 to 600 now. 600's are cheaper to run and look at the class sizes, 30+ bikes with the best of NZ riders right in there. Can't get better than that. 250's cost 3-4 times more than 125's to cost, and they're not cheap to run. In a 600 all you've got to worry about is tyres, and they're controlled anyway. 250's are dead.

hmm. If only the transition were that easy :)

I'm convinced, time to get a 600 then. It's the wise thing to do

Well I have many examples of 125 riders who have gone onto 600's and are doing fine. Takes 1-2 seasons to get used to the 600 but from then they seem to do pretty well.

Or you could go Streetstocks. CBR250 etc. 250cc 4 clyinder 4 strokes up against 150cc two strokes. A bit of fun for not too much money, and good numbers running around the country.

The 250cc 4 cylinder bikes are great fun out on the track. The sound of 16000rpm+ is beautiful

Holy crap, did you say there's a street stock class for the CBR250? Damn it I've been thinking about getting a race bike for about 2 years, and I've had my CBR all this time and never raced it. Bugger. I'm going to go to a controlled testing at Pukekohe this Friday to see how I feel, but I'm keen as hell to get in a race like that. Where do I sign up.

Edit: Well I've just done some more internet research, and I'm going to join up with the AMCC to get into the racing. But I found a good comprehensive description of the streetstock class on the Victoria motorcycle club website here: http://www.vicclub.co.nz/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=68
